Ok...

So being a giant movie geek, I was asked to host a website for an actor I enjoy...

I am wondering about a good FREE webhost that I could use...or maybe even a cheap one if they offered a really good sytem and lots of storage space...

Thoughts...??

The old site is currently on Geocities and sucks monkey bum...I am learning DreamWeaver to revamp the site but need somewhere to put the thing once I am done with the site overhaul...

I would like at least 5 pages plus lots of photo storage space...a forum would be super awesome but is not necessary...

Cheers,

Erin

When my sister ran her own site, she used "cjb.net" and it worked pretty fine for her.

I was hoping for more replies to this thread, because I'm looking for one too. (plan on developing a webcomic eventually)

Dreamhost.com (http://dreamhost.com/hosting.html) is pretty good. Tons more storage than you'll ever need, and you can get pretty deep discounts with user promo codes (http://www.google.com/search?q=dreamhost+discount+code&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-40,GGGL:en).

I'd drop Dreamweaver and go with Wordpress (http://wordpress.com) (free) (Dreamhost will install it for you if you want.) OR, you could just get a free hosting account (http://wordpress.com/vip-hosting/) at Wordpress and host it there.

110mb (http://110mb.com) is another good option if you want completely free service. The only downside is that if you like using FTP to upload files (as opposed to zipping completed files) there are server limits. Still a good option though. :)

I checked out several of the suggested sites and am wondering if there is a difference between a PHP run site and an HTML run site...are they interchangeable...??

My site will be in HTML but knowing little about this whole website thing I have no idea if that is gonna be a problem or not...??

Thanks for the responses so far...!!

I would like at least 5 pages plus lots of photo storage space...a forum would be super awesome but is not necessary...The ones listed in previous posts look fine. I did a quick search and was just overwhelmed by the number of hosts available that I don't even know what to recommend you. Remember, a paid web host will generally get you more storage space. You have to decide if a free host allows you to do everything you want, or if you want to spend a few dollars a month so you don't have to worry about hitting space or data transfer limits.

Your HTML site will run fine with a PHP-enabled host. PHP is a server-side language that gives your site additional capabilities and makes it more dynamic (in a usability sense). For instance, it works wonderfully with databases. Your site may or may not need PHP. You don't have to use PHP, MySQL and other features the host provides if you don't think it's necessary.

Ta2grrl, good luck on your actor website. Nikita, good luck on your webcomic.
