I was talking with my best friend about comics(it's practically all we talk about) and the topic of the X-Traitor came about. When Bishop came to the present, he was looking for a suppossed traitor that would cause the downfall of the X-Men. Gambit was his main candidate, but then Onslaught happenned and suppossedly it was Professor X(by being who Onslaught came from) that was the X-Traitor.

I haven't been that up-to-date with the X-books lately, so my question is, is this true? At least since Onslaught? Or has there been any mention of the X-Traitor still being out there as a loose story tread?

Professor X was the X-traitor, in the form of Onslaught. That plot thread is done with. It was originally going to be Gambit, but he proved to be too popular to just throw away. So naturally, they instead took the guy at the very heart of the franchise...

It's closed up, the traitor is Xavier.

I always thought this was such a cop out. It just stinks of lazy writing.

I liked it. And bishop saved them all by absorbing that big energy blast.
And it was vvvv clever how they used Jean's transmission to fit in.
Onslaught was hot.

So was Bishop, until his hair fell out.

I don't like Mullet bishop. I like dreadlock Bishop. He should get a weave. Fierce. LOL.

Gambit was originally supposed to be the traitor, but he became kind of popular so they didn't go through with it.

Bishop had awesome dreadlocks back in the day. He should go back to that look.

You know to be honest, either of these ideas could have been really great - as long as Marvel was willing to move the X-franchise forward.

But because they weren't able to do that, Xavier being the traitor was a half-hearted story. There's nothing wrong with the mentor attacking the student - its classic storytelling. But if Marvel had wanted to go through with it, then that had to be it for Xavier; you couldn't just go back to the way things used to be and pretend it never happened.

Same with Bishop. You know, I always felt like Gambit was too much of red herring; I was always waiting for the crazy twist, that revealed the true traitor, and showed that Gambit was just stuck with taking the fall.

Bishop being the traitor to preserve the future or change the future into something better would have been fine. But again, you have to move Bishop forward - you can't just keep him in the same characterization for 15 years.

Also, the traitor - would have helped if he actually killed *someone* on the team.

Specially if the one who died was Bishop. Then we would have an ironic twist and get rid of an annoying character at the same time.

Bishop should have died in the blast he took for the X-men during Onslaught. They could still do something with that as a final storyline for the character: he was *supposed* to have died then but for some reason he didn't and he lived on past his time (a not so subtle nod to the reality of his situation as a character). Bishop then does something to correct that flaw in time and dies/fades away because of it.

Maybe the traitor was the Danger Room...:)
