I had this same problem. I would go to Best Buy and drool at all the wonderful Anime they had on the shelves and daydream about the ones they didn't have... but they cost anywhere from 25-200 dollars! It's insane!
My dad takes me to pawn shops and i suppose he noticed this more than me, but there where Anime there too. There weren't many and of course they wound't always be mint condition but most of the time they still had their goodies in them. Better yet, they were only 1-15 dollars, at most... how cool is that?
My suggestion is to go to a pawn shop and look at what movies they have. Check if they have anyone ever bring in Anime, if they do try and find out when and ask them if they could hold them for you. Get to know the people who work in pawn shops. They are nice more than not, and if they don't have anything, try the next store. There are plenty of pawnshops planted around most towns.
Happy hunting =(^.~)=
I need a job so i can buy anime, but then i would wanna spend on manga as well, and then martial arts dvds as well...bah too much stuff

Yes best buy is s rip off, I buy from hastings or suncost mostly but they have Air Gear for 20 so... And thanks I have multiple, multipule pawn shops in my area (live near a army base) I think I might give that a try. The only problem is If the thing is to scratched up I aint getting it, no matter what it is. but thanks any other suggestions?
I use dvd-pacific for some of my anime... they are cheap especially wen they run deals (i got gasaraki full boxset for bout $35 few years ago). And plus their shippin prices to the UK is the most resonable i've seen from an american company

Use Rightstuf and Deepdiscountdvd's sales.
For example, a while back on rightstuf there was the buy 25 Geneon dvd's for $100. And DDD usually has cheap prices and twice a year there is the %20 off everything.

Just so you know, $25 for four eps on a DVD is a deal compared to the crazy prices for anime in its native Japan.
Also, avoid longer series like Black Cat. Actually, I think the manga is long. I know it;s in Shonen Jump. Not sure about the anime.
Anyway, I can't wait for uncut One Piece. Though the manga is fine too.

really thats interesting. How long is the Black Cat manga? ive only seen up to vol 5. And hey untill I can see it for free I gotta see it no matter the cost.
Oh one more thing, Ive recently become interested in Grenaider. Ive found a complete box set for 33$ Would it be worth it, never seen it, but saw a clip and it was sweet. Chicks bounching bullets of their cans to reload, yea.

First of all, I've learned to be wary of any anime that's adapted off a manga series. 75% of the time, just get the manga.
The first problem is that, in many cases, they're made to quickly cash in on a mangas' newfound popularity, and don't give the author sufficient time to pull ahead. This means:
A: Filler Episodes. In the worst-case scenarios, entire Filler arcs or seasons.
B: Overtaking the Manga. The anime releases a lot faster than the manga does, and quickly catches up. Rather than stopping, they start making things up. In Tsubasa's case, they actually did something that was later contradicted in the manga, and had to rush to retcon it away.

I'm with you SAMAS. I've personally just started ignoring anime adaptations of manga that I've already started reading. More than not, I end up quite dissatisfied.

When buying box sets, or even just DVDs, always check to make sure they're not bootleg.
Here's the faq I keep linking to

Also, I was in a Japanese store today with a bunch of anime DVDs. (I'm on vacation here for a few weeks.) Most of the DVDs were either higher in price or lower in episode count for about the same price. I guess I can post pics off my camera once I get back home.

I hear ya, kinda like the Scryed anime and manga are totally different, Or how Hellsing as way fewer episodes than it sould considering how maany manga are out. I find the Rorouni Kenshin (my personal #1 fav) is pretty good about doing them almost simular, I like the images in the manga better, but I like the wording in the endlish dub better, wierd right?
Anyway no the Grenaider is not boot legged it was just used at suncost, and I trust it.

My only other suggestion would be a MovieTradingCompany. I've never been in one but my dad has and he does all my shopping so i'm guessing the prices are decent.
*he refuses to buy Anime over 10$, ep. or movie, doesn't matter*
I don't see them around very often but those i do see are rather large.
I guess you could always try eBay if that doesn't work ... jk
