The new Kenny Wayne Shepherd album is a solid piece of work, 10 Days Out (Blues From The Backroads). It's not really what you would expect from him. Good ol' fashioned blues with a lot of famous old-timers taking center stage. Doesn't hurt that Double Trouble is backing up the music also.

You should be able to find it in stores with the extra DVD -- haven't watched it yet -- for $20. Easily worth being in any blues collection.

On a related note... Generally liked his radio tracks. Saw 'im opening for B.B. King.

Not... not good.

Now it was an outdoor venue and I'm sure that touring with B.B. means touring HARD. So it might have just been an off-night.

So I'm curious: Does he always suck live, or was this just a bad night.

I saw him in Houston in 99 and it was a great show. My brother saw him fairly early, when KWS was like 16 or something, and said that was also a good show. I think you unfortunately just got an off night.

Kenny is fairly well-respected among his peers, so I would have to say it was an off night. All these old blues guys definitely wouldn't want him playing with them if he was a hack. Young kid, so he has to still be learning his chops.

I watched half of the DVD. Good stuff. It really showcases the old blues musicians and not so much Kenny Wayne. It shows live footage of the songs you hear on the CD, but a lot of it is the old blues musicians talking about the old days and the origin of the blues.
