He signed an exclusive contract with DC and will be taking over ACTION after Eric Powell's Bizarro World storyarc in a few months.

Hope he understands the concept of a deadline...

Yeah, that's right, I'm looking at you Kubert!

He said he finished his Hulk commitments awhile ago. And the first issue of his Incredible Hulk (of these commitments that he mentioned in the interview) came out not so long ago.

I don't think we'll have a Kubert repeat.

His art on his Supergirl run was both good and on time.

Plus I don't even think the Eric Powell arc has even been solicited yet, so it's a ways away.

Wow...great news! There's so many DC books that I'd like to see Frank on, but Action is a very good start. Love to see him get a crack at JLA, and a Wonder Woman arc would be really cool. I imagine that they'll move him around (just seems to be the way the business is today).

Gary Frank is a great artist, he just keeps getting better. I'm crossing my fingers he'll get the chance to draw Hal Jordan!

That's a shame. I loved Adam's art. The waiting, though, is total crap, especially on a headlining book like Action, so at least we'll have an artist who can handle deadlines. Not a big fan of his art, though, so unless he does something special and stylized with Superman, I'll be in this one solely for the writing.

Still... Eric Powell's Bizarro will probably make up for any problems this book had or will have for years. What an awesome artist for an arc like that.

I wanna hear Didio scream ! ;)

The scene where Hulk says "I wanna hear you scream" was drawn by John Romita Jr.

And I do believe Didio would scream if he could sign John Romita Jr. (I know DC has tried.)

Yeah, I know and what a scene it was !

Highly doubtful that JRJR would sign an exclusive with DC; the only DC characters he drew were in that Punisher/Batman crossover, I believe ?

I like Gary Frank, he was great on "Hulk" and "Supergirl". He was pretty much the only reason I read "Supreme Power".

What would have made this announcement better is if it was six months ago, and it began, "Replacing Adam Kubert on 'Last Son'..."

What can I say, just a fantastic choice. Nice one DC!

Wow, very nice. Looks like Gary Frank's got at least, what, five or six months of lead time before his first issue of Action? Maybe more? I'm hoping that after being derailed by delays that Action will actually have a regular creative team again.

This is great news. I'm sick of the delays in Action Comics, even though I like Adam Kubert's art a lot.

EDIT: P.S. : Sean, now that is a REALLY COOL Avatar.

Gary Frank is awesome but I was hoping for him to stay at Marvel to do more Hulk stuff.

Ah well, the Superman books are lucky to have the guy. His style has been great on Supreme Power so he can definitely handle this type of book, plus his facial expressions are always great in how insane they look.

Has Frank ever had an issue with deadlines? As far as I know he's always been consistent.

Bad for us Hulk fans but great for Supes fans. So I guess I got the answer I needed on the Hulk threads. Is the writer any good? Doesn't matter; I collect all of Frank's work no matter who's writing.

This is perfect! I loved his work on Midnight Nation, Supreme Power, and Squadron Supreme and I know I'll love his Superman...heck, his Lex Luthor and Metallo was awesome in the most recent Action Comics annual!! Nice one DC! :D

If memory serves, back when he was drawing the Hulk & Supergirl, Frank was able to keep up the monthly grind for about five issues before needing a fill-in. Compared to Kubert needing fill-ins before his first issue even debuted and not being able to go more than a single issue without a delay or a fill-in, I'd say Gary Frank will be a marked improvement.

Marvel's loss is DC's gain, but I'm glad Gary Frank said it wasn't a case of being ticked off at Marvel as much as finally having a chance to draw Superman.

Having seen how he's done Hyperion, Frank should blow up on Superman.

I just hope he's given some decent stories to illustrate. I have bad memories of what happened with Jim Lee and Brian Azzarello. UGH!

Aww, c'mon. For Tomorrow isn't bad.

Yeah, don't answer. I know what you're gonna say. ;)

Not sure what happened there with Kubert, because he never had this problem earlier in his career as I recall.

Can't wait for Frank's stuff.

Me too. Lee and Azzarello's Superman just wasn't...Superman.

Given that Kubert hasn't addresses his lateness publicly, it's anyones guess. It may be personal or family issues that are nobody's business but his own. However, you'd think an experienced professional like him would have been around the industry long enough to realise what this is doing to his reputation and send Newsarama a quick two or three sentence statement explaining the situation for the fans whose goodwill and money pay his bills. I'm surprised that DC hasn't insisted on it.

Maybe the editor should come forward and explain things. The whole Superman titles have been a headache since OYL. I haven't regularly read Superman titles before, but having both Camelot Falls and Last Son interrupted with pointless fill-ins, has been really irritating.

Maybe he just didn't want people knowing his business at all...which is understandable. Who doesn't read a press release explaining tardy issues and immediately go "Yeah, right."

Too bad everyone can't draw consistently like Mark Bagley.

I love Andy, but jeez, I just want to read a full F'n story sometimes. At least Frank has a good track record.
