This is a damn fine month for me. Not only is Alejandro Jodorowsky having his first three films released as a set, but Sayles' collection includes The Return of the Secaucus Seven and Brother from Another Planet - two films I have been desperately trying to see since I was 18.

Secaucus especially. Ever since I learned it was the original blueprint of the Big Chill, I've hoped to see it.

In many ways this is what dvds mean to me - rediscovering films which have been ignored for years and introducing them to a new audience.

Secaucus... follows a group of college graduates meeting up again for the first time in years, trying to reclaim some of their lost youth together. Brother From Another Planet has a black alien arrive in contemporary and be lumped into the same racial bracket as other blacks - think The Man That Fell To Earth, but remove the humans gentle tolerance of Bowie because he's 'English'.

Can't wait.

I can't see anything but goodness for you in getting this collection. Sayles is one of my absolute favorites and these early works show him at his purest and freshest perspective in my opinion. ENJOY!

Two other great movies from Sayles: Limbo and The Secret Of Roan Inish.
