Another good issue. We get our big action setpiece at the beginning and the set-up for next issue's at the end, and they're awesome, but the really cool thing about the issue is finally getting into the backstory of Orson Randall and the Seven Cities of Heaven.

Orson gives Danny a book made of the scales of Shou-Lao the Undying which contains all the kung fu secrets of all previous Iron Fists. He also tells the story of exactly why the Crane Mother would be so pissed at him. As it turns out, there's a kung fu tournament that the champions of the Seven Cities are expected to participate in. Orson declined to participate when it was his turn, so the rulers (gods?) of the Seven Cities sent the other six champions after him. He killed the Crane Mother's champion and escaped. So . . . that's why everyone's after him, that's why Davos is K'un-Zi's champion, and that's why we're in for lots of ENTER THE DRAGON action next arc.

All that and cameos from Luke, Misty, and Colleen.

Sigh...

What more is there to say about this book?

It has great art, story, pacing, characters, you name it!

This is was awesome. I'm curious about the other champions. From what I got from the opening pages they are all called Iron Fist. I find that lame. I would think that a city would want to give their champion an unique title.

#5 was a solid issue!

Danny and Orson are fighting against the HYDRA soldiers and Orson goes of to find a book in one of the trains. That book was made by the scales of Shou-Lao the Undying, and the book contains all the kung-fu secrets of all the past Iron Fists. He gives the book to Danny and Orson tells Danny that he needs to learn all the moves to prepare for what's next. My guess it's to prepare for the martial arts tournament.

Orson reveals that the reason why the Crane Mother is after his is because he declined to participate in the martial arts tournament to defend K'un-Lun. Therefore, the Seven Cities sent the other six champions after him and Orson killed one of the Champions and escaped.

Steel Serpent prepares his army of assassins to take down Danny and Orson and once ready, heads to Rand Corp. Jeryn, who made a deal with Xao to sell tech to China in order to save his mother, called in none other that Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Collen Wing to help him out! That was a really cool scene.

With Danny and Orson coming back to Rand Corp., Danny states that he owns half the buildings in Manhattan, and therefore makes it alot easier for him to get around town from rooftop to rooftop as Iron Fist. Danny and Orson take the elevator up to Rand Corp, and when the doors open, Steel Serpent and his army are right there waiting to engage and fight Danny and Orson. It was one hell of a scene!

Overall this issue was another great read. The ending to this arc is sure to be fantastic, and I can't wait for #6. The art is once again amazing, and Brubaker and Fraction continue to do a great job on this book. And also, the action was really awesome!

Typically I like to disagree with the majority, but I just can't. Immortal Iron Fist #1 was one of the best 'whim' purchases I've made in years, and each issue has kicked far too much ass than should be allowed. It's amazing how a C-lister's book like Iron Fist can be so good, and Marvel's core books, like New Avengers or Amazing Spider-Man, suck out loud.

That's how I see it too. After reading #5, the pacing of it was just like a martial arts movie. Action, plot movement, and just great characters.

I agree. Like i've said many times, Immortal Iron Fist is one of Marvel's break out hits, and continues to be a great read. But as for New Avengers and AMS, both are also one of my favorite books. And plus, Iron Fist is on the New Avengers, which is also awesome. :D

I am, considering that Luke, Misty and Colleen are on different sides of the Registration issue and they aren't even speaking to one another in New Avengers.

Still, it's been a great arc. Not surprisingly great, because I trust Brubaker with street level heroes. I'd be interested in seeing how he and Fraction each contribute to the character, plot, etc.

I think it's a good bet that Orson will eat it next issue. Definitely getting an Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon vibe.

I agree. It's like I said, I find that the pacing of this book is very good. And keeps the story fresh with new things to look forward to and etc.

I talked with both Brubaker and Fraction and Bru told me how exactly both he and Matt work on each issue and story.

Other than the first couple of issues, Matt does most of the actual hands-on work on IF. We plot it together, and then Matt sends pages and I polish them or tweak stuff and rewrite stuff a bit. The most of the back and forth is in the plotting stage, which is extensive. I'm almost like a plot-overseer and script doctor on Iron Fist sometimes.

In the first issue, I wrote about half, and then we rewrote the entire book's narrative at the last minute, literally a day before press, because it was too much. That issue we divided up based on who wanted what. In issue two, I told Matt right off the bat that I was writing the John Severin scene. I gave him Russ Heath the next issue, so it balanced out.

I think it's a good bet that Orson will eat it next issue. Definitely getting an Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon vibe.

Considering that this arc is called "The Last Iron Fist Story", I think it could mean that Orson will die. Still though I hope not. He's grown to be an awesome character and I'd love to see more about him, the best idea for him, if he survives, would that he'd serve as a mentor to Danny from time to time.

Yeah why are Luke, Misty and Colleen standing there like they are all in HfH...

Is this Arc pre-civil war or something?

Luke Cage could not be holding business meetings post-Civil War otherwise thoose men behind would be Cape Killers not Hydra Goons.

Brubaker stated that this series took place two days after Civil War. But, that was when the first issue came out...As for Misty and Colleen not doing anything to Danny and Luke, Misty stated in Heroes for Hire, even though the team is supposed to be hunting unregistered heroes, she won't go after people like Cap and of course Iron Fist and Luke Cage. So that's why everything was fine between them.

Once again, this series proves why it's my favorite ongoing right now. Brubaker and Fraction have done it again. And by that I mean writing another great issue. From the well done splash page and to the last page of the issue where Steel Serpent and his army confront Danny and Orson, this was another solid issue.

There's HUGE potential with the Immortal Weapons. And also that kung fu book that Orson gave to Danny. I loved the part where Danny said to Orson that he owns his own buildings, and therefore makes it easier for him to get around easier. Heh, Danny is thinking smart.

Good art, story, characters, a strong fan-support, writers, covers.

The only thing Iron Fist fans have to worry about is Marvel canceling the book because it makes everything else they put it look bad.;)
