I was trying to think of a theme to do with 20. First I thought of sports (20, score, sports, geddit), but then I thought bugger that, lets go with something I want to do, soooooo....
First, the rules...
We vote on Tuesday and the winner of the contest gets to choose the topic on Wednesday after votes are counted.
So this weeks theme is...
HOMAGES
Covers that pay homage to other covers.
As I'm re-reading Dark Knight, I'll kick things off with this one...

Oooohhh, one of my favourite topics. So many great ones from which to choose.
The fine folks at Bongo have always paid homage to the past, and they dug deep into the vaults for this Jerry Robinson classic.

Since I don't think anyone specified it had to be a comic book cover homage...

I don't *think* the rules specifically require that the cover in question be to a comic that has actually been published, so in that spirit, I give you the cover to Tightlip Entertainment's FREEDOM 3 #1, which is of course a homage to the cover of CAPTAIN AMERICA #1.

Here's an homage to one of my all-time favourite covers. My third favourite Spider-Man artist imitating my second (sometimes first).

I was remarkably close to using an Animaniacs cover homaging the same theme.

I always loved Art Adams homage to Jack Kirby and Thor's first appearance in Journey into Mystery #83 when he portrayed Storm as the God of Thunder on the cover of X-Men Annual #9.

A cover from Star Wars Insider, which isn't a comic and likely not allowed in the contest, but I totally geeked out when I saw it so I thought I post it anyway. From Udon:

Looks like Tuesday where I'm sitting.
Tempted to go with Lone Ranger and the Simpsons (especially as I may not have gotten the reference otherwise!) but, really, I think votes should go to the poster who displays the most evil in selecting their entry. Thus:

Tough one this week. I really like Lone Ranger's. That's a fairly obscure comic to homage. (Bongo has a ton of these though).
I love Fin Fang Foom and Atlas monsters in general.
JesseCuster's is cool and semi-obscure.
Though I'm not a big Alex Ross fan, I love both the original and the homage.
Vote to.......
Lone Ranger.

I vote for gary bolt (and not just 'cause he's my husband)
I have fond memories of that Simonson/Adams era of Thor and ex-men. I think we recently donated this among a bunch of others to our LCS in the BIG PURGE of '07.

This post from Gary's wife last night may be cause for concern:
well ... last full day before we depart to points east begins momentarily. I don't think you folks will see much of us for about a month. The odyssey begins with a few days with David Petersen and the Motor City Comic Con meeting with Guy Davis and Stan Sakai and Sergio Aragones. Then back to Canada and Gary's family in Hanover, on to friends' in Kingston... Montreal...Peterborough...Newmarket... a wedding in Toronto and home again.

Wow...cool. How about a vote off between our second placers?
Lone Ranger, Mike Smash! and GloryQuest
If agreed, we all vote on either of the three. Don't think there are too many others who follow this to do a tie breaker.
Your thoughts?

To be honest, I didn't know that was an homage cover either until I started looking for covers for the contest.
And congratulations, Gary! :)
