A while back, I started a thread in these forums about really bad commercials. In light of some recent and rather terrible commercials out there, I thought I'd start a new one.

To start things off, I'd like to first draw your attention to a recent Quiznos commercial that has garnered a LOT of attention; particularl a woman who speaks the line "It's not lacking any meat. And that's what real women need" followed by an absolutely horrendous laugh. Jokes about it have been circulating ytmnd and youtube as of late.

So, what commercials have you seen that have been annoying you?

Any Caveman commerical. I've hated them from the start and they've only gotten worse.

Anything with Jared from Subway.

Anything from Old Navy where people are singing.

The ones I saw on TV always, ALWAYS started with the phrase, "she knows you still got it". And if I had a dime for every time I heard that, I'd put all those dimes in my mouth and choke myself to death as a statement against these ads! :mad:

Those T.r.u.t.h commercials or anything that is sponsored by them. Im not a smoking person but the people in those commercials look like a bunch of pompous a-holes.

Almost every Jimmy John's ad. The one where the thing screams for 30-seconds is the worst. The two diagrams where one eats the other is stupid. Really the only good one they have is where the girl answers the door in a towel, and then drops the towel to grab the food. All the rest of theirs annoy me.

Meh. The ATI ad's dont really annoy me. I'm simply indifferent to them. But you're right about T.R.U.T.H. Those punks need to be lined up against a wall and executed via firing squad.

Those T.R.U.T.H guys makes you just want to tie them to a chair and force them to smoke a entire pack of cigarettes. No punishment cant be more fitting than that.

I hate all commercials, and tv in general. I really don't watch tv anymore. Most of it is time wasting garbage that I can waste time on later with a commercial-free DVD.

I have to agree.

I've NEVER smoked, and those ads are so annoying that they almost make me want to light up. No doubt the tobacco companies employ some specialists in reverse-psychology techniques.

Interestingly, I've seen ONE anti-smoking commercial that I thought was actually effective. It starts with a baby, struggling to get up on his feet, clearly getting ready to take his first steps.
Nearby is an elderly man, obviously the grandfather. He's half-kneeling and holding out his arms to the child while speaking words of encouragement.
After several false starts, the baby manages to stand up and takes a few tottering steps toward the smiling old man, walks into his waiting arms...

...and continues right through him. The old man is a ghost. He turns to look at the child, now behind him, with a look of ineffable sadness, while the voice-over says something like, "Be there for them. Stop smoking now."

I thought that one actually might have worked. And I saw it exactly once, years ago, and never again. Nor have I ever met anyone else who remembers seeing it.

Coincidence? Or was it judged a little TOO effective...?

Here's how you should do a stop smoking ad:

Have a few diagrams showing a healthy person and a diseased person.

Here's why we don't do that:

There were a series of cartoons they showed a few years back teaching us that. The problem was that the guy who was smoking grossed me out, and it had lungs coughed up, and huge tar blobs coming out. The worst part was when the guy pratically fell apart. I'm serious, they had this cartoon freak LOSE HIS SKIN AND HAVE HIS ORGANS COLLAPSE IN A SOOTISH MESS!!!

I was more sensitive then, and frankly, I changed the channel quickly to avoid seeing them.

Since I'm on a roll with these public service ads, I got one more they discontinued recently. They involved these kids drowing and being suffocated, and they were disturbing. They were also bad because it showed that the parents were morons because they got distracted in two of them, and in the third one, the mother sat on her kid.

You see now that is a way to convince a person that does smoke to take a good long look at himself and think if he really should continue the rest of his life smoking. If a smoker watches a t.r.u.t.h commercial the natural reaction would have him to roll his eyes at the arrogant, full of themselves individuals involved in the commercials and light one up saying" If quitting smoking makes me end up like you pricks then Im not quitting at all"

The Geico Commercials, by comparing those ads to Allstate Ads Allstate convinced me more to sign up with them than some talking Lizard. Speaking about the Cavemen those ads involving them got ABC to consider pitching a tv series about the Cavemen in those commercials.

Ditto on the awful TRUTH ads and the Quizno's girl who "needs a lot of meat." ;)

Mine would be the one for the Verizon V CAST phones that was on constantly not that long ago (but thankfully not so much now). It's the one set at a gym where a sweaty mook approaches the viewer extolling the supposed virtues of the new Fall Out Boy song that he download to his V CAST phone, as it "gets. him. PUMPED!!" and he then proceeds to jam his sweaty earbuds into the viewers' ears, forcing them to listen to Fall Out Boy while he flexes along in time to the music. That torturous ad used to run at almost every other commerical break for months.

The "I'm a MAC, and I'm a PC!" commercials are annoying to me because they're so one-sided. Yeah, I'm sure PCs ALWAYS have problems but Macs are always hip. And that they actually feel sorry for the PCs. :rolleyes:

The Geico Cavemen commercials wouldn't bother me if it weren't for the fact that they remind me so much of how minorities used to be treated in the US. I just don't find that funny.

The ad with the girl who happily runs away from the nerdy boy whom her mother got her as a date is not only annoying, but what did it have to do with the product (I think it was a snack?) anyway?

Mac (cheerfully): "Hey PC. What's up?"

PC: "Well, glad to hear your pleased with yours-"

PC (upset): "Excuse me! But what is your problem?"

Another commerical I don't like are those Boost Mobile ads featuring those friend trackers. Seeing people look like spherical balls annoys me.

I've hated all tampon commercials to come out in the last five years. They've all gone too far! I remember when all you used to see in the commercials was the box. Now, you have to see them individually wrapped, you have to see them dance in unison then pop open, you have to see a guy mistake his girlfriend's tampon for something else, etc.

2) Anything by T.R.U.T.H. I think these commercials make more people want to smoke than stop.
3) Any time I hear the "words" dawg, hommie, gangsta, bling, crib... I know this one really does make me sound racist, but I simply despise most slang.
4) PSP commercials. I love the system though.
5) Wii comercials or for that matter the name of the system. They try to make it seem so exciting by having people jumping around but they only look foolish.

I like those, since they originated from the Gap stores which had some cool bands doing their ads a while back in the 90's. On my backup drive, I still have the old Gap commercial featuring Luscious Jackson. :)

Haa anyone mentioned Sonic commercials? I'm too lazy to look through. But they've got this one for a 99-cent root beer float and the one annoying guy hands a dollar to the other annoying guy and says, "keep the change" and the other guy goes on about getting to "keep a penny." Hilarity supposedly ensues.

Of course, if you read the commercial fine print or know anything about the basic food industry, you also know fast food is taxed, which means that 99-cent root beer float actually costs about $1.06 in Tallahassee, which means annoying guy 1 owes annoying guy 2 about 7 cents.

It was for Celebrex... the blue animated commercial. They tell you in the first 5 seconds what is was for and the last 25 is all warnings about side effects and what not.

At least Mom took the phone away. It drives me up the wall to see kids trashing the house (Like the kid shaking the pop bottle) while Mom chuckles, because her cleaning supplies will take care of the mess.

That one seems counterproductive to me. If doing enough drugs is going to make my dog talk to me, then I'm going to be doing quite a lot of drugs.

That and depending the mood your in it can be unintentionally funny. I had flashbacks of Half Baked when watching that.

The Tag commercial is a homage to a 60s commercial for a similar spray called Hai Karate. Same idea, using it would cause men to have to fight women off.

I brought up these two on another forum:

Skittles Commercial: Guy complains that his milk tastes sour. Cuts to shot of another guy attached to a milking machine. Reason for the sour milk is that the guy being milked is eating sour skittles. This commercial is disturbing beyond all reason.

Valtrex Commercials: They start off with beautiful scenery and a beautiful woman. Then the first words out the chick's mouth are "I have genital herpes". Mood killer.
