Thought I'd share this with everyone! Man, their backstory is the most convoluted thing ever, but maybe we'll get to see Monet interact with her sisters again in X-Factor someday.

Oh, and what's with this Monaco/Morroco mixup? From the beginning Monet has always been from Monaco- a very small country next to the south of France, but sometimes the St. Croix's are referred to as being and living in Morocco. What gives? I remember the twins were shipped off to their father in "Morocco" at the end of Gen-X, but I think that was a typo. Geez, I'm so nitpicky.

odd choice for a spotlight, in my opinion.

i could go without seeing them again. i think m as a character is better off without all of the twins/penance/emplate/m-plate baggage.

Yeah, I know what you mean (on both accounts actually). I'd like Monet herself to get a spotlight before the twins, but whatevs.

I hate that retcon that Monet was really Penance and the Monet we knew for 30 issues was actually not Monet, but her twin sisters. It's all really confusing really, but it would be nice if Monet mentioned her sisters once in a while.

I was so excited thinking M was finally going to get her own spotlight, and then I find out it's the twins! WTF! Oh well, at least we got when M was the coolest.

Monaco is, from what I understand, The Hamptons of Western Europe. Except instead of just being a nice little cluster of towns, it's like a mini-country. Pretty much everyone born or at least living in Monaco is wiping their ass with $100 bills. Case in point is my friend Pierre. Born in Monaco, but raised in all the different homes his family owned in different parts of the world. Monaco, Curacao, South Africa, etc. It's my guess that Monet & co. weren't much different.

I already said this, but i think it would be better for UncannyXmen.net to update the already existing spotlights than create new ones about not very relevant characters.

And i still don't get how Revanche or this twins have a spotlight, but Quicksilver and Magneto don't.

Really don't want the twins to ever be mentioned again, unless its some kind of retcon that takes Penance and a "real" Monet out of the equation. Like that whole story was a telepathic trip Monet put on all the GenXer's to cover up that she is twins or something. Yeah. That could work. Twins Monet was the BEST Monet ever. "Real" Monet sadly sucks in comparison.

they have been updating spotlights recently (cable, jean).

revanche and the st. croix twins are easier to make spotlights for: they've appeared in fewer issues and haven't appeared for some time. magneto and quicksilver have many appearances and a large amount of history to cover. they're still appearing and their fates are currently uncertain.

i just read it and i realized it was the first time i actually got to see Monet's dad... correct me if im wrong, but in the first issue of gen x, wasnt it hinted that monet's father had a "mental problem"? Also, i remember someone wanting to assasinate him or something.

I hated the monet-st. croix twins fiasco as much as anybody, but come to think of it, why did they plant the seeds of the coloring book thing and climbing trees and M's bizaare behavior? wish scott lobdell would answer this so we could know what his original intention was with M

Yes nanny and Orphan i think tried to kill him but then his arm fell apart? I don't remember him being unstable though.

Odd choice for a spotlight, but I think its very cool that they got one. First of all, UXN is doing updates of existing spotlights, and updates aren't exactly the most exciting thing to see unless you're a fan or are curious about those characters. It's wise of them to do a mixture of updates IMO.

Anyway, I'm inclined to agree with streator and be willing to forget everything about M's family line to have M...and Penance/Hollow (read LONERS!), without needless confusion.

I hope an M spotlight is next!

Monet was always meant to have been the creation of twin girls - one being autistic (thats why she went catatonic at times), but there was never meant to be a "real" Monet. She was just the twins - two powerful mutants who created the perfect human being. The ramifications were going to be that Emma and Sean would have to choose whether to continue letting the girls be Monet or to sideline them due to their tender age.

Ohhhh, I never knew that! Thanks for sharing. Hmmmm, not sure if I like that premise. I'm glad we have the Monet we have now.

Yeah, Monet has changed countries of origin more times than the Summers brothers have cheated on their women. She's also been from Algeria and since the Penance retcon, had Yugoslavia tacked onto her origin. Yikes.

That would have been interesting. I would have loved to have seen where Lobdell was going with that, instead of what we got instead. Thanks, Hama! You wrote a good run on Wolverine, but a totally craptacular run on Gen. X.:evilangry

You're so right. Hama's run was pretty bad. I do love Faerber's run, though. And the Revolution run as well, believe it or not.

Faerber's run was fun and after the horror that was Hama's run (that man was a HACK! I'ver heard he was interviewed saying that he'd run GenX into the ground before he would leave the title...yep). Faerber's run was fun, but it wasn't great like Lobdell's. Brian Wood I felt was starting to get back onto track with the book, but it still didn't have the "magic". Part of it was probably Pugh's fairly pedestrian (but interestingly "gritty") artwork though.

Faerber's run was so much fun! The character moments were great. I especially like his first issue, where M and Jubilee fight. He also made some interesting moves, like opening the school to humans and bringing Adrienne to the cast. And Paladin!

I actually liked Pugh's art. And the 4 Days arc by Wood is probably one of my favorite Generation X stories to date, especially the Chamber and Monet/Jubes issues.

But I agree that the Lobdell/Bachalo run is the best one. I really miss seeing these characters interacting.

Yeah, I didn't mean that I didn't like Pugh's art - it just didn't click for me like Bachalo's on GenX did. I thought it was really cool and he was my 2nd best GenX artist. Its sort of like Dodson's art - its great but was too..."round" and curvy for GenX.

I enjoyed Dodson's art, but I agree that it can't even be compared to Bachalo's run. It was his best work ever, without a doubt. Full of style and details and a fantastic sense of storytelling. I think he's slowing going back to those years with his current X-Men work, but it's still not the same thing. That art he produced before... breathtaking.

Yeah, I'm so gonna agree. Bachalo, even though he's refined his style, is still a pale comparison to what it used to be when he first came onto Gen. X. My second fav. artist on the book would have to be the Dodson's.

See, I like the Dodson's work usually, but it just seemed so wrong. It was too round and the noses too round. The figures of all the characters was too...yeah...round. Everything was soooo round.

I didn't like how they made Jubilee have boobs NEVER. She became the most flat-chested girl ever. Poor Jubes!
