I miss the Timmverse in general, yeah. :(

Given the batembargo, though, I honestly don't know if there's anywhere they had left to go once it ended.

I'd love to see more Superman, especially in a serial style (sort of like JLU) as opposed to the one shot episodes. Not to turn this into another Batman vs. Superman thread, but I do believe there were more options with Batman, and his series could last longer. Perhaps it's the mystery/detective style, I don't know, but I kind of enjoyed Batman: TAS more than Supes. :o

Ditto they got somemany of characters down pat or had a all orginal interisting personality.... And the attention continuty is enough to bring one to tears... Every detail came around full circle...

Plus the Luthor, Darkseid, cliffhangar was IMO genuis...

Personal I wish it would never end... but alas:(

Speaking specifically about Superman:TAS, no. I miss Batman Beyond, Batman:TAS, and JLU, but as much as it pains me to say, (because Superman is by far my favorite character), that series was never anything special in my opinion. It was decent, and worth watching during it's first run, but I don't think Timm was ever able to capture the magic of Superman in any of his cartoons the way he captured so many other characters.

I would love to see some more Superman episodes. Unfortunately, with Timm working on all the DC animated movies, and Dini is busy with all the stuff on his plate, it would probably be better to start things over with a new series.

Until this happens, however, I have every episode on the DVDs, so I have them to hold me over. Plus, the Legion show is supposed to have a more Superman-ish version of the character next season, and he's supposed to appear as a member of the JLA on The Batman, so he'll still be around. It just won't be the same.

I loved these too. Mostly Batman Beyond and Batman:TAS, but does anyone remember The Superman and Batman Movie with the Joker and Lex as the villians?

I definitely miss it... especially when I found out that they had so much more planned for it. Superboy was supposed to be introduced, Clark and Lois were going to get married... etc... and it was just 1 more season for all the good stuff coming =(

I do... To some extent. I mean, I liked the series, and I'd love to see a new Superman animated series, but there were a few things in Superman: TAS that bugged the hell outta me, like the fact that Superman was too weak, and that I would have liked a more serious approach to the artistic style. The cartoony versions of DC are getting old and annoying already.

However, I'm buying Superman: Doomsday as soon as it comes out. :D

You sure it wasn't a JLU episode taking place in the future with Batman Beyond? I don't recall ever seeing Superman in Batman Beyond.

Yeah, he appeared in Batman Beyond. And NOT strangely, he was portrayed as a freakin' idiot, so Batman could look cool.

Ah yes, the lost season...two things i'd like to have seen: 1)more Perry White, and 2)Lois and Lana doing something together.

It was decent, and worth watching during it's first run, but I don't think Timm was ever able to capture the magic of Superman in any of his cartoons the way he captured so many other characters.

I also agree that the Timmverse never really understood the character. I enjoyed the series, I own the DVDs, but the show was never GREAT like Batman:TAS. I felt like they never really found a way to make Superman that appealing as a character. I also thought they made him too weak, and in his show, he never really showed much emotion as Clark Kent or as Superman. When they started making Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, the writers then seemed to make a conscious choice to have Superman show more emotion, but then he seemed to become a loose canon that got angry all the time, which is also how Superman is NOT supposed to be. I don't think they ever found a happy medium, for my taste.

How many of the episodes of Superman:TAS are good because they STAR another character (a guest-superhero, Lois or Jimmy, or a villain). Not even guest-star, STAR another character- as in the story is told from that character's point of view. Sadly, I can't think of many great episodes that actually star Superman. I thought the best Superman we ever saw was in World's Finest (that three-parter that was mentioned earlier with Joker and Luthor teaming up), because Batman plays opposite Supes, which brings out the strengths in both of the characters. Other than that, Superman was a pretty boring character, which is too bad, because he's got some great stories in the comics.

I would have preferred more stuff about Krypton, more Smallville stuff, and more of his relationship with Lois or Lana. And some better animation wouldn't have hurt, either.

By the way, the Batman Beyond episode with Superman and the rest of the futuristic Justice League was "The Call," Parts 1 and 2.

What was wrong with the animation with S:TAS? It was the same as B:TNA and JLU.

By the way I saw the episode. I remember seeing it but it was so long ago that I just couldn't remember any of it. Maybe it was because Superman had a different costume.

Man, every single point you hit on are the absolute exact same complaints I had about Superman's character during Timm's entire portrayal of him. The power levels, him being too bland, and the loose canon thing during JLU. It's one of the reasons I've always wanted another solo Superman cartoon done by someone else, because I think there's so much room for improvement.

What was wrong with the animation with S:TAS? It was the same as B:TNA and JLU.

It actually wasn't. JLU had the same style, but by the time the show got to that point, they were using digital animation (not CGI, but their animation was being put on the computor and submitted), and also JL/JLU animation got more and more detailed as it went on. I want to say it was even done by different studios entirely. I know for some episodes at least, JL/JLU had different animation studios than Superman.

As for the New Batman Adventures, yes, it did have the same animation, and I wasn't crazy about all of the animation on TNBA, either. However, because Batman is almost always at night time and in the shadows, the animation can hide Batman and doesn't have to have as much detail as Superman, who's adventures are all in bright sunshine and you can see him very clearly. In other words, the animation for me worked better with Batman than with Superman.

There were handfuls of episodes on both of these shows, though, done by an animation studio called TMS (I don't know what it stands for), and that animation was very good. So I should make that point. Some episodes done with this animation were "Never Fear," "You Scratch My Back," and "Over the Edge," on Batman, and "Two's a Crowd," "Speed Demons," and "World's Finest," for Superman. I really enjoyed that animation. Still, the animation on the majority of the episodes wasn't anything special, I thought.

It's called "The Call", in which Terry is asked by the Justice League to join their ranks. The "special" part will not be spoiled by me.

Agreed 100%. I long for a cartoon with a realistic art style, and a Superman closer to the comics version.

I hope that they don't screw it with Superman: Doomsday. I sincerely hope so.

exactly. and also if anyone remembers how Christopher Reeves acted as Clark Kent aside from Superman is how I thought was how Clark was supposed to act. In S:TAS, There was no bumbling Clark that
Christopher Reeves once did. He seemed normal. He stood up straight, he didn't try to disguise his voice, he didn't act like Clark, which if Lois was a smart top reporter could have pieced together that maybe "Hey you know what Clark looks almost EXACTLY LIKE SUPERMAN! hmmmmm"

I miss both the Batman and Superman series from the 90s. Everything after that in the DCAU I don't care much for. I didn't know Superman was planned to have another season. I thought it was gracefully ended not cancelled.

I love Reeve's portrayal of Superman, but I think his Clark was way too over the top.

Superman being controlled by Starro in "The Call" was GENIUS. Especially how they tied it all back to Starro's appearance in the Lobo episode of STAS.

I miss the DCAU in general. The Legion TV show is okay, and the Batman has it's moments, but they just lack all the stuff that the DCAU had, that sense of a wider universe.

BTW, for anyone who wants to know, here's the official list of DCAU series (in Chronological in-universe order):
Batman: The Animated Series
Superman: The Animated Series (which takes place a few years after BTAS)
The New Batman Adventures (takes place concurrently with STAS, which led to the crossovers)
Justice League
Static Shock (had several crossovers with other DCAU)
Justice League Unlimited
Batman Beyond
The Zeta Project (based on a episode of BB)

You'll enjoy Volume 3 the most. By far the best of the series, I'm surprised no one mentioned Season 3 on this thread. Season 3 was a great pre-cursor for JL/JLU.

Season 1 & 2 are hit & miss. Some of it's good, some of it's crap.

I do agree with criticisms on Superman's power level and such, but I guess they wanted to go for a more vulnerable approach to the character. I didn't mind it too much, but at times I had to wonder why Supes was having such problems in certain fights.

At first I didn't like the artwork for Superman, Batman, and JL/JLU, but I grew to appreciate it. Sort of a classic interpretation (Similar to the old Superman cartoons from way back when), but with a little bit of modernism mixed in.

Overall, I love the "Timmverse", and wish it was still around......Far better than The Batman and Teen Titans, ugh.

I will start with superman. If i like it i will buy the JL DVD´s. I have seen some episodes of the first season of superman on tv in Germany (sadly it was always early morning on saturday and i like to sleep till noon, so i missed it most of the time). I also did not like the power level, but still its superman, so i ordered the dvd´s.

i just watched an episode 3 episodes last night. "Apokolips...Now!" and "Knight Time". To me, "Apokolips...Now!" was pretty emotional in the second episode. Superman was basically beat and when he saw Detective Turbin get lasered by Darkseid he just vented out his anger on that machine Darkseid was on. And the "Kinght Time" episode was cool simply because I like Batman and it was pretty funny to see him as Batman using gadgets and sneaking around lol.
