I remember reading an Ultimate FF issue where I was surprised at how strong the Thing is.
Ultimate Cap is no slouch either, being able to go toe-to-toe with the Hulk.

So, I wonder....

Which ultimate characters are actually MORE powerful than their 616 counterparts?

I know Dr. Doom is, but everyone else seems to have been brought a notch down.

Hmmm... Hawkeye kind of seems Bullseye-ish. So that arguably is a BIT of an upgrade, though the 616 version is no slouch.

Colosus kind of seems more powerful. He basically owned Thor (though Ultimate Thor seems less powerful, so I'm not sure how much credit we should give).

Green Goblin might be more powerful. He seems quite almost Hulkish.

Hawkeye definitely is, he's effectively a cross b/w 616 Hawkeye and bullseye.

Colossus is for sure, his strength has been mentioned on more than one occassion (he's been called the worlds strongest mutant). I take his beatdown of Thor with a little bit of salt, just because it was one issue, and effectively off panel.

Reed Richards definitely seems to be power-wise, and potentially even intelligence wise, although he certainly has been played up as not being able to understand all the consqeuences of his work. The fact that he doesn't really need to breath alone is a huge improvement on 616 Reed.

I'd say Ult Thing is stronger than 616 Thing. He hasnt been compared to ult Hulk yet, but he did beat down zombie savage hulk, who took out the surfer. Ult captain america definitely is, but is becoming weaker.

Villains wise, Doc Ock can control metal instead of just one set of arms, and the Goblin seems a bit more powerful, although since Ultimate spidey is weaker than 616, its harder to tell.

Well U.Spidey and U.Cap are about the same strength or were during Ultimate Six.

Ultimate Iceman while maybe not more powerful was using it quicker.

You never saw 616 Bobby doing the stuff U.Bobby has, like that massive moving Glacier in the crossover with the Ultimates when Bobby was young.

Ultimate Spidey is weaker but he's only 16 now he'll probably get stronger as he grow older (Yes Mr. Bendis I think its time!).

Doctor Magenetipus is defently stronger. Haven't seen Venom again but my guess is that he's stronger as well, specially after how strong Peter became when he wore the suite.

Sue seems stronger as well, she is defently smarter.

I don't really follow 616 X-Men but isn't ultimate Jean stronger then regular one?

I think Spidey beats Cap in the strength department. I re-read Ultimate Six again and looking at that scene, Cap was being forced back by Peter. Peter may have him on Strength but Cap definitely beats Pete in martial ability.

Dunno much about the Ultimate X-Men (or the 616 variety for that matter), but I've heard that Ult Colossus' eyes are apparently vulnerable to harm when in "metal mode", unlike 616 Colossus.

Can someone confirm this?

in ultimate nightmare(or secret) ult falcon points a gun at colosses eyes and claims that if his eyes were metal then he wouldnt be able to see, since colosses backs down i assume that his eyes are vulnerable

All Ultimate versions are weaker than their 616 counterparts because they're too concerned with having sex and thinking of what aspects of pop culture to reference. Their minds are clouded; they would lose in a landslide against the 616s.

Just kidding. Sort of. :(

Ultimate Doctor Doom is the most powerful super-powered being in the Ultimate U (Magical enhancements and all that jazz), according to Mark Millar's run. It seems that's quite the upgrade from 616 Doom.

Ultimate Doom did seem more into magic then say 616's Doom who is more a scientist first magic user second.

Magneto stopped Thor's hammer. That was pretty impressive.

616 Doom is supposed to be next in line for Sorceror Superme after Strange.

Colossus shrugged off Magneto, that's quite impressive. I still don't think Ult Magneto is more powerful than 616 Magneto, who has put on some pretty ridiculous shows in his day.

No one mentioned Namor? He was considered the most powerful metahuman on Earth, and owned the FF pretty easily.

Ult. Cap and Colossus are stronger than their 616 counterparts also.

Cap is the main one that I notice when I think about the differences in strengh between the two lines

Ultimate Super-Skrull - kind of a mixed bag. He has the powers of all super-powered beings in a (what was it?) 200 mile radius or something. So that is a major upgrade - provided there are super-powers around. But, it's just a suit now, so the previous owner (now deceased) was a feeble, ancient Skrull who served as the Grand Poobah of the Skrulls.

Ultimate Black Knight is hugely upgraded. He now has the power to occasionally hold attention and entertain. ;)

Ultimate Abomination was supposedly stronger than Ultimate Hulk and was a genius (not just 'kept his normal intellect'). So I guess he was an upgrade. A lot of good it did him. He probably knew exactly how long it would take half of his head to hit the ground in the split second before it was separated from the rest of him... to the nearest thousandth of a second. Probably even knew how many decibels his decapitated (and armless) body would make when it slogged onto the pavement.

Ultimate Mad Thinker was possibly even smarter than the Marvel Universe version. Better hair, better clothes... She sure as hell has more style.

Ultimate Karnak and Gorgon seemed pretty damn tough. My only Marvel Universe exposure to these two was watching Spidey dispatch them in about 2 seconds. How do others think they compare?

i honestly don't think so, depending on how the stupid phoenix thing works out
maybe she is but 616 Jean pheonix trumps that...
then again 616 Jean is dead so that automatically makes ult Jean stronger
:D

Ultimate Susan is clearly smarter than 616 Susan, if that's an upgrade.

However, Ultimate Galactus was rather wussy.

Namor and Doom are perhaps the two most powerful superhumans in the Ultimate Universe, methinks, for reasons previously stated.

I think somewhere they noted Ultimate Cap has superhuman strength, so technically that's a boost up.

The real upgrade, though? Nick Fury. 616 Fury is cool, but this Ultimate one is such a badass.

Professor X apparently has telekinesis now. I saw him fly up some stairs in his chair in Ultimate X-men one time.

Just like anyother comic, and ultimates are no exception. There is no standard for a charcters given abilities, it all has to do with who is writing it.

Look at ultimate xmen when it first launched, millar had them cranked up in abilities. Now after loosing millar and getting crappier and crappier in writers they arent the same as they used to be. Magneto was god like at the start, now he isnt. Wolverine was practically unkillable but now he has been ratcheted down a bit, even in the 616 wolverine started out not being tough as he is now. Before a couple bullets and he was down for a bit, now in 616 his flesh is burned off him and he keeps right on going.

Captain america though has always gone against foes more powerfull than himself. Its all in how he handles himself not quite how powerfull he is.

But really, this is a freaking comic book folks. You cant say how strong someone is or whatnot, its not real. In terms of feats they have all been more so and less than and equal to 616 versions at some point as they have been written by hundreds of different folks.
