Shocking and surprising, my wife and daughter actually came to free comic day at my local comic shop, Strange Adventures. There were 2 comic creators going to be there that i had always missed seeing every other time they were at the shop, one of the them, Owly creator Andy Runton (whom i still missed as he wasn't there by the time we left today ), the other Darwyn Cooke, great artist on New Frontiers and the Spirit. I was finally able to get him to do a sketch for me, and i figured as my young daughter Alyssa was with me, i'd get her a Wonder Woman sketch, which i will post as soon as i scan it.
Another fellow there was a local artist who works for an animation studio down this way by the name of Derek Jessom, who also did a Wonder Woman drawing for us.
All in all, my most profitable free comic day ever..there were about 100 people at the location when i was there, and to no-con going me, it was just a fun thing to take part in. Anyone else have any luck today with any goodies?

WHOA!! Darwin Cooke? Thats just great! The New Frontier is by my humble opinion the best story from DCU in a hell of a long time! And the new Spirit is just excuqisit! You're one lucky man to get to sketches from him! :)

..and the art!

Our shop may be on the hniod end of North America as far as being close to any cons, but as the owner is close friends with Mr Cooke and Steve McNiven, and as they are situated in halifax, they tend to come by the shop sometimes when you're just in browsing.

Just made a trip up to Dark Star Comics (one of the most impressive relatively local comic shops around here), but I must've been a tad too late, because their selection of free comics had dwindled. :\ Since I draw a lot, I picked up 'From the Pages of Wizard Magazine: How To Draw Free Comic Book Day Booklet', haha. And Darkness Calls #1 of course! Unfortunately for me it wasn't free...oh well.

Thanks for sharing, Mike. Your daughter is so damn cute.

FCBD...came back from my comicbook store. It was jammed and I got two free books (along with Darness Calls - AWESOME!). Otherwise, not much going on there.

Great scores, Mike. Nice that you got that Wonder Woman drawing for Alyssa. I picked up Owly, Comics Festival, Comics 101: How-To & History Lesson From the Pros! and Bongo Comics Free-For-All! The Bongo comic has a Hellboy nod in it on page 10 - The comic shop guy threatens Bart by pointing menacingly at his RHOD-covered hand but is wearing it on his left hand!

If Gamezilla (Moncton) hadn't offered me a table, I would have been in Halifax to see Andy Runton - I didn't know D.Cooke was going to be there. I had a lot of the stuff I have collected for my website on display for people to flip through and order from the store if they were interested. Chatted up a lot of interested parents, librarians, teachers.

My wife brought the kids up later in the morning. My son (4 months) had on a SpiderMan tshirt on. My Daughter (2 1/2 yrs) had on a full Supergirl suit (from the 70's movie) that my sister got for her in Metropolis Illinois.

I got sketches from Dano Leblanc - He does "Acadie Man" a comic and cartoon - sort of a southpark quality, without being like SP at all. Nick Bradshaw was there al day as well. He is a terrific artist. He did really detailed sketches for anyone that wanted to wait. At the end of the day I got him to do a Deadshot as a gift for a friend and he did a scketch of my daughter as Supergirl, my son as Batman and my wife...sort of like a Superwoman type character. VERY nice. Nick's girlfriend did a very nice SuperGIRL (meant to be my daughter). All three were very nice and everyone had a blast. All three are localish.

Good day. All three stores in the area were pleased with their crowds.

That was the Moncton experience. I love Strange Adventures - Always a destination when we make our summer trip to Halifax. I hope it went well. there

My FCBD was a little dissappointing since my shop didn't get the smaller stuff, so I missed out on Owly (which really bummed me out) or the Peanuts, but I am sure they will be on the free tables at the cons.

That's neat stuff, buddy! The Wonder Woman drawing reminds me of DC: New Frontier. I didn't get so much cool stuff like you, but they had discounts on everything and I got a cool 28 Weeks Later poster!
