My father frequently used to talk of a comic in the 60's/70's about an excessively debonnair/pompous character I think maybe called Archey/Archie? I think possibly the character was a cat?
Very vague I know, but if anybody knows what it might have been i would be eternally thankful.

Probably a long shot, but could you be recalling a reference to Don Marquis' Archy and Mehitabel?

If they're UK, they could be Korky, long-time (but no longer) character in the Dandy comic - wouldn't call him particularly suave though.
Alternately, could be Firkin from entirely different kind of literature, but sometimes republished in collections by Knockabout or Last Gasp. Arguably suave, maybe occasionally pompous. Hunt Emerson (creator of Firkin), also created Calculus Cat and Pusspuss, of which I know nothing
