View Full Version : Darkness Calls Print (retailer incentive only)

The is an image (from Scott Allie/Cary Grazzini) of a poster that is a retailer incentive--

Dark Horse won't be selling the posters, they go straight to retailers to do with what they please.

(It's an unused cover image that Mignola did for Darkness Calls #1.)

Snag as you can from your retailers.

Don't know dimensions yet.

(I am spacing out-- has this poster been mentioned before?)

---------

much later edit: I guess per the quality of the poster, it's technically a print. :)

I've seen this image here, I think it was scanned from Previews. The image was in slightly different proportions (I have both in front of me here) - it was without logo and text, narrower (ca "arkness call" when compared) and slightly more picture in top and bottom with whole cat's tail visible.

I believe it was first mentioned a few months back by Otto in one of his Previews reports. I asked the manager of my local shop to reserve it for me, but they didn't order enough copies. Also, there is not a single shop in San Antonio that got one so I guess I'll go the ebay route (being the E.S that I am).

I thought it was a print, and not a poster. Maybe it's both?

I had heard it was a lithograph.

I spoke with my man on the inside yesterday and was told the shop hadn't gotten them yet.

I spoke with my man on the inside yesterday and was told the shop hadn't gotten them yet.

Asked Scott, he just said:
The retailer incentive: limited edition print, gallery-quality paper.
The auction one: convention giveaway from NYCC. Glossy, folded.

Hey Scott, How about a hookup for all of us loyal HB fans? :D

We were stuffing those folded glossy ones into the giveaway bags for the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo. I thought about grabbing one, but they weren't really that remarkable. The paper stock is about the same as a comic cover and there's a Fear Agent poster on the reverse. Anyway, I was supposed to be stuffing stuff, not taking stuff. Unfortunately there were not nearly enough to go in every bag, so there wasn't one in mine when I finally grabbed one on Sunday.

I wish they'd just done a "free stuff" table instead. Then I could have grabbed some posters for people on the board and I wouldn't have spent 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon getting paper cuts. :p

SDCC will be here soon enough and I'm sure Dark Horse will have plenty of daily freebies like in years past- hopefully some good Hellboy related ones this year. :)

Wasn't there something about a contest in the DarkHorse
Pony Express e-mailing? I deleted after reading and can't
find a link to it now at the DarkHorse site.

The litho was meant to ship with HB:DC#1, but Diamond UK didn't get it the same week they did Darkness Calls. I've been told its shipping out this week to stores that ordered enough (ie for every 40 copies you'll get 1 litho). I'll post again Friday to hopefully boast about my new Litho (due to the bank holiday here comics are a day late)

As an aside, if Duncan reads this. THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU! The signing in Nottingham was excellent, I hope the signing in our other Travelling Man stores went as well (if not better) The fact you signed our remaining HB:DC#1 has made soo many of our customers happy. Plus the sketch I got off you looks ace on my wall :)

Oh and Hello all! Sorry I've not posted here in an age.

Oh and Hello all! Sorry I've not posted here in an age.

You are welcome- i'd just about recovered in time for the signings at Leeds and Manchester, both of which went well... and I'm still shattered!

Lets just hope I recover in time for Fridays signing in Bristol and oh yes, the convention over the weekend.... I suddenly feel even more tired:o

Why would they do that? Mid-Town Comics rolled my print, and sent it in a tube.

bad shipping...flat is how Diamond gave them to the retailers,so I guess that goldenapple thought it was safe to send it that way.great shop, but i've never had to mail order anything from them....I hope that you didn't have to pay too much....no matter what ,that still is terrible.

So YOU got my copy from Golden Apple! (They'd promised to hold one for me, then when I went in told me it had been put up online instead.) But fair's fair; I'm just kidding when I call it "mine." :)

That's really too bad about the way it was shipped, though. I ended up getting one from Meltdown that had been shipped the same way, but it was fine. You can never trust US Mail though.

In all my years of shopping there, I've always found the people at Golden Apple to be courteous and helpful, so I'm sure if you contact them you can arrange to get your money back, or work something out. You should definitely try. Good luck! I'm really sorry about that crease.

Well, maybe it's because you've been a brick & mortar customer, but thus far their customer service completely sucks and blows. I messaged them through eBay that I was sending them an email with pics of damaged attached. So I send the email to 2 different addresses they provided, one of which generated an automatic "thanks for shopping with us, buy more of our crap!" (just what I wanted to see), and the other which got no response. So I also send a message to them via PayPal. Many hours later, I get a message through eBay's system basically saying, "what are you talking about, why are you contacting us?" TOTAL CRAP.

As far as I'm concerned, their negligence resulted in the destruction of art.

Get your money back. Visit your local library and ask them to recommend a local book restorer. They may be able to repair the crease. There are ways to do it yourself too, but it might be better to let a pro try.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually know a guy who is a trained book binder and restorer, so I'll give him a call.

It seems like the seller is sympathetic to the damage, so things might get resolved in a day or so.

Yeah, so this is gonna apply to me as well in some extent.
I recieved my print yesterday (bought on eBay) and it was shipped flat as well. A semi-deep fold straight across it.

If you ever get by one of these make sure they ship it rolled. The paper's not too thick to roll and it's definitely gonna be more protected in a tube than if it's shipped flat. Unless they use masonite or something as a backing. But I've only come across that once.

So, is there any info how many Darkness Calls lithos are out there? From http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=10981 I see that estimated sales for DC #1 (in May 2007) were 32,312
32,312/40=807,8
So, the maximum number is ca 800. But how many shops ordered more than 40 copies? I think there are not many of them outside the North America... So, the more realistic number could be maybe 400? Or even less? 200? Any info?
