AWESOME!
I really like this feature Dark Horse has done for the site.
the BPRD version was really interesting because of the difference between Guy's pencils and inks. This one is interesting to se ethe transition between Mignola's script and thumbnails and Duncan's pencils&inks.
Great great stuff!

I want to read the rest. I wish there was a comicbook shop in Riverside that doesn't suck :(

Thanks a million, Duncan!
BTW, does anyone else think it extremely cool that Duncan is so approachable and present on the board!? I just hope once the comic hits it stays that way. It's nice being able to bounce ideas or comments off of you, sir. Thanks for being a down-to-terra firma kind of guy! :D
Edited to add: Holy s**t, Duncan! I've said this so many times now it's almost lost its meaning, but you have nailed it. I don't even know exactly what "it" is that you've nailed, but you've done it!

I love seeing the 'making of' process work for comics and other things...it's so cool to see how intricately some of these pages were planned out in advance! And wow, the finished product is amazing....can't wait to pick up Issue #1 this weekend, if I can find it!

I was wondering what was the deal with HB get'n a gun back in Birmingham when I was looking at the pages. Now the mistery is solved. ;)
I have to say that I truly love these "how we make it work" featuretes. Plus, you don't get to see penciled pages this beautifull to often. It's a shame that from time to time inks buther some amazing art while making it only abit more clearer to read.

Well I was planning on becoming a prima donna by #3 and insist that everybody call me Dunncan Windsor Fegredo. Maybe I'll just leave that untill #4 then:)

Glad you enjoyed it- I must say I love these kinds of extras myself, seeing guys pencils to ink transformation was amazing. I used to pencil a lot looser (almost unintelligable at times!) but I seem to have gotten a lot tighter over time. Still, i think it's necessary with Hellboy so I guess that works.
Are you a tight penciller?

I must admit at times I do prefer the pencils myself, sometimes its incredibly hard to capture a soft mark and translate it in cold hard ink, it doest work without lots of feathering and that's just not right for HB.

-Thanks to all by the way for the positive comments, enjoy the book when you finally have it in you collective sticky hands:)

Hey, that's your prerogative Duncan, and not the strangest thing I've heard happen. :D

I'm guessing that this is one of those cool interactive pieces like DH gave us before that allows us to flip through the script to thumbnails to pencils to colour, but I want to go at this New Hellboy experience with purity and wide-eyed innocence  , so I will look at it later.
Thanks, Duncan, for the whole ball of wax. :)
JUST A FEW MORE HOURS!!!

Unable to stay as chaste as Maija, I peeked. Rather, I pored.
Duncan, the stuff looks really good and I think the faith that most of us have had in you is really going to pay off. Though it might appear sometimes as if praise is obligatory, it ain't and I offer mine out of authentic appreciation for the work you've put out. I've kind of spoiled myself on this one (at least I didn't look at the pages with script, my will-power is still functioning at reserve levels), but I still can't wait to see the finished product today. Good on ya!
This is such a cool feature Dark Horse has come up with, and this one in particular is the most successful and informative of them all. It's a real pleasure to see the bones of your collaboration. A lot of fans love to see the "process at work" and I'm one of em. Watching how you've translated Mike's notes, at times closely and others refreshingly loose, seeing his further notes (which I strained to interpret at times because I was so intrigued) on your pencil-work made me feel really privileged. I could understand why a creator might want to keep that kind of stuff under wraps, but I think it's great that you or Mike or DH or whoever decided to open up the vault on this one.
If you plan on becoming a prima donna by ish 3, Dunncan Windsor Fegredo by ish 4, that's fine. Just don't turn into Gary Busey by ish 5, okay?
On second thought, that might be entertaining...Duncan, please turn into Gary Busey by issue 5. Thanks!:D
I am not quite sure were to post this since I read the comic. I will post it here. ...................................
After reading Scott Alies article on darkness calls, I can definatly see were he thought that you would bring more readers to the hellboy series. That is some fine art work. I won't go into detail as I don't want to spoil for others. I will spill my thoughts later .Duncan Fegredo WoW

so, i waited to check this out until i had a chance to check out the whole issue (which was just fantastic... and some of your best stuff yet, duncan.... i just kept going back to pore over all the little details) and not spoil anything...
love seeing these pages in all the progress (especially the energy and life in those pencils... gah! and it's amazing how much of that is still captured in the inks...)

Thanks Craig, much appreciated, especially your comments on the inks. It's annoying because I used to pencil so much looser. Now when I ink I try to loosen up the tighter pencils, bring a bit more life back in... of course then you lose some details, but that's the thing really, no point in being detailled yet sterile....blah, blah blah, y'know I'm not used to doing interviews but I've done a lot recently I'm starting to dream speak in embarrassing quotable art speak! Gah, I must be stopped!
And you had the right idea Craig, watch the extras after the main feature folks!

At least you don't sound like a pretentious blow-hard when your pontificating, Duncan. :) Seriously though, it's fun for we art types to hear your process and how you go about doing certain things, so....wax on!
