I just bought these two promo posters on eBay. I think they look fantastic. I was curious if anyone here could give me some information on the project that it's for.

They were exclusive to the New York Comicon I think. Absenter picked up a few for Hellboarders and got them signed.

He got me the second one.

Well in my opinion the 3rd print is the coolest. It's a large picture of the man on the cover of the book...very very cool.

Would this be the image of the man on the cover?

Does anyone know any online retailers who have this 3rd poster for sale? Perhaps a comic shop with an online store? I don't really know any offhand.

In Amazon:
Baltimore,: Or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire (Hardcover)
Hardcover: 304 pages
List Price: $25.00

In Previews:
BALTIMORE, OR, THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER & THE VAMPIRE PREVIEWS EXCLUSIVE HC
HC, 7x9, 336pgs, B&W..........$25.00

What's exactly the difference? 32 pages? Are they illustrations?

You should ignore that Diamond listing for now. I don't know what they're doing. Diamond will be offering the trade hardcover edition (the regular Bantam edition), which is what you see in that listing. However, they'll also be offering a Previews Exclusive edition that has added materials, a different cover, and possibly even signatures. That one will be more expensive, obviously. Seems they're a little confused at the moment.

Added materials? Signatures? Sign me up! Any idea if the Previews edition will come slipcased, Chris? That would be the icing on the cake!

Hi all,

While Amazon does indeed list the regular hardcover edition as being 304 pages for a list price of $25, the Previews Exclusive Edition is described in the latest Previews (June 2007, page 400) as being 336 pages for $39.95.

Here's the product description:

A Previews Exclusive! In a story that unfolds through a series of flashbacks, British aristocrat Lord Baltimore encounters a vampire on the bloody battlefields of The Great War, unwittingly releasing a great evil into the world ... an evil he vows to vanquish! Renowned comic artist and Hellboy creator, Mike Mignola, adds a visceral, visual appeal -- over 150 original black-and-white illustrations -- to this chilling collaboration with Bram Stoker Award-winning author, Christopher Golden. This Previews Exclusive Edition also features the original Hans Christian Andersen story that inspired the author, along with additional spot illustrations. An additional sketchbook section of art by Mike Mignola is also included, exclusively for this edition.

HC, 7.5x9.25, 336pgs, B&W: $39.95.

Mr. Golden, does this sound accurate? I'm sure lots of Hellboarders want to know, so they can safely pre-order copies through their local comic shops!

(BTW: I'm a long-time lurker and first-time poster, so hello all!)

in cof.txt the book is listed as

SRP: $39.95

but here it says $25.00

Ivar: Yes, it looks like the product description on the Previews website is a strange combination of info for the regular and Previews-exclusive editions. I pulled the product description from the print version of Previews, so let's hope that's accurate.

This is great news and thanks Christopher for chiming in with some authoritative answers, but i've already put in for my copy through amazon!:(

If I understand correctly after reading though the thread, this more expansive edition is only available through Diamond (Previews exclusive) and will have a sketchbook section as well as a different cover.

Chris, for numbskulls like myself, could you spell it out in a more difinitive and comprehensive post how the two different versions vary and how each can be bought? I'd much rather have gotten the Previews edition and wish I had known about it before I put in for the Amazon one (did I overlook something?). Wonder if there's a way to cancel or switch my pre-order for something else. A fancy spatula maybe...or some power tools...

I am so freekin excited about this book! I've got all three of those sweet posters, and I'm a real big fan of all the Hellboy novels (even the unGolden ones :o ). Boy I'm looking forward to when I can afford to run out as quickly as possible to get in line and get this bad mamajamma. I can't wait to see the fan art spawned from it as well... wink wink...nudge nudge.

Another awesome cover. I broke down and bought an Advance Reading Copy on Ebay, but I'll also be getting the regular version and the Limited Diamond Exclusive one. (I think I actually like that cover even better.) I knew the collector in me would need the ARC eventually anyway, so why not get it early? Tad's warning that it contained unfinished Mignola artwork actually served to seal the deal rather than warn me off. Wouldn't it be cool to compare the two, and see how the art changes? Well, unfortunately it's so unfinished that there are a lot of place holders right now (skulls or other drawings used again and again, presumably instead of whatever will be there eventually), so that won't really work out. It's still a neat collectible to have though. I'm going to wait for the legit one to read it, so I can have the full experience...

Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster here. :)

I'm a huge Mignola fan so I tried to order the special previews edition of this book from my local comic book shop, but he said the guys at Diamond U.K say that it isn't available to people outside of the U.S.

Has anyone else heard this?

Well, like with any doctor, I'd get a second (and possibly third) opinion, but for the most part I have heard of this kind of exclusivity. It's not pleasant by any means. I'm sure a stateside fan from the board would be willing to help you out though, so don't hesitate to to spread the word.

Thanks for that cover image, Ivar!

You know, I was thinking recently that it used to be somewhat difficult to locate Mignola images- even with the internet. Some of us would have a cache of great images that we'd share when asked, but now it seems like great images are all over the place and show up here quite often. I for one am very thankful for this. It saves the google searching and time spent having to troll for images.

Yeah, it's very annoying that I can't just order this book from my comic shop. I'll probably have to get it from ebay, but I'll ask again at the shop when it's closer to the release date, maybe they'll know more about it then.

I also hope that the regular editions cover is printed inside the previews version. I really like them both.

Well, i just finished reading it last night...no spoilers here, just my comments. I LOVED this book.Mike and Chris have done a fantastic job.Truly a journey that has everything that one would expect from these two talented people. Now ,i have to preface my comments with...I'm not that much of a recreational reader, other than comics and an occasional (and I do mean occasional) short story or novel.I've read most of the Hellboy novels and enjoyed them. But ever since I heard that this was a project that Mike has been working on for a while,i knew that i had to read this..I always hear people talk about page turners and I've only found that to be case a few times.Baltimore is just that ...a page turner for sure.If you enjoy a good vampire/vampire hunter story, you're going to love it. All the characters antagonists and protagonists alike, come to life. This is a well written and thought out story. Mike and Chris have outdone themselves,Mike's illustrations are nothing short of brilliant. The Illustrations of the villiage buildings(a character themselves)transport the reader there.I cannot say enough great things about this novel.I cannot wait for the SDCC to tell both Mike and Chris what a pleasure it was to take this journey with Lord Baltimore and his cohorts.I will definately revisit this tale again when it's released in August.:D :D :D

But if anyone here is seriously interested let me know.

There were 3 different posters issued and I have all 3 autographed.
I also have a duplicate of 1 that is not autographed ( I hope that makes sense).

I will take a photo of them and send it to you if you are interested in purchasing. :)

It was used in one of the animated sequences in Disney's Fantasia 2000, of course with happy ending. There's a Russian animated movie based on the same fairy tale, which is much more depressing and scary...
