Just watched John Carpenter's Vampires, and the whole organized Slayer group backed by the Catholic Church and James Woods character really felt like a Hellboy/ BPRD knockoff. What other movies could you see adapted into Hellboy adventures, or have that sort of feel to them?

Vampires by John Steakley was released in 1999 so Mike might have been inspird by it. I'm guessing one of Mike's bigger influences could be Captain Kronos and of course Roman Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers.

Ghostbusters have the same feel as some of the lighter more humurous adventures.

Hands down Pan's Labyrinth. It has all the quirky little fairy tale rules, heavy shadows, interesting pacing, strange creatures. I think Del toro did a better job capturing the feel of Hellboy in this movie than he did when he did Hellboy.

Absolutely nailed it.

I actually just got through watching a borrowed copy of Monster House, which was surprisingly creepy for what I thought was a kid's movie. It is that 3-D animation, but the story is very similar to something that would happen in a Hellboy story. After seeing it I see that it is a sadly underated movie. I would recommend it.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here at CBR.

I just finished watching Wes Craven's Swamp Thing. This may not be the greatest film of all time, but there are some awesome moments. And yeah, it felt like Hellboy now and then.

Anyone watching Swamp Thing on DVD should check out the theatrical trailer -- hilarious!

''Shock Waves''. It's a 70's film with Nazi Super Zombies.Just imagine, Hellboy taking out the ''uber'' trash, and this flick has Peter Cushing...not a great film by any means, but I have a soft spot for some ''B'' and ''Z'' grade movies.Others for your consideration,- ''Snowbeast'' and ''The Car'' [both made in the 70's]....all the best.

Hey Matt! Welcome to CBR. It may be a little saner over here. Maybe. ;)

I agree about Pan's Labyrinth and also the Devil's Backbone, which had more of the quiet, brooding, lyrical horror that I get from Mike Mignola's books, vs. the blowed-up-real-good stuff that GDT tended to go for in the movies.

There are other movies that have struck me as Hellboyish, but I can't think of what they are at the moment.
