Assuming you don't already have the issues or the trades:
Absolute DC: The New Frontier
Or if you're in a more somber mood:
Maus : A Survivor's Tale : My Father Bleeds History/Here My Troubles Began/Boxed
Nothing says fun like All Star Superman. You can read the issues over and over again.

I'd go with the following:
Whiteout
Gravity: Big-City Super Hero Digest
100 Bullets Vol. 1: First Shot, Last Call
New Frontier is on my must read list as well so I can't recommend it just yet.

I'd definitely go with WHITEOUT. This way you can be the cool kid in the movie theater when the trailer eventually comes out and say, "I'VE READ THAT BOOK!" before everyone else does. . .

When did that kid become cool?

I pulled my two Whiteout trades out of storage this past weekend. Can't wait to re-read them for the third or fourth or fifth time (who's really counting anyways?).

That's a big list with a lot of top flight books. If forced to choose, I'd go with Annihilation, Book 1 or Essential Avengers Vol 1. Whiteout is great though, as is Gravity, although it loses a few points for being in digest size.

I've read these. Here are comments:
Gravity: Big-City Super Hero Digest - Good and fun. Reading the FF now? Get some backstory!
Sentinel Volume 3: Past Imperfect Digest - Also fun. Last vol I think.
Absolute Batman: Hush - Wanna know what I think, look on the back cover! :D
Maus : A Survivor's Tale : My Father Bleeds History/Here My Troubles - Damn good, but it's emotionally draining and not a "happy" tale.
Fantastic Four Visionaries - John Byrne, Vol. 1
Thor Visionaries - Walt Simonson, Vol. 1
Marvel Knights Fantastic Four, Vol. 1: Wolf at the Door
100 Bullets Vol. 1: First Shot, Last Call
Invincible: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 2
The Walking Dead Book 2 - ALL of this is good, but there's more to each vol. If you want from this stack, then I'd pick 1 and invest in the next FEW of each. Especially Walking Dead and Invincible! Buy like 3 of each at LEAST if you go there! The Thor Vol.'s 2-3 are sometimes hard to find tho.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 2 - very good. But I'd wait until the next vol is coming out sooner.
House of M (X-Men New Avengers) - if you can get it at 1/2 price.
Whiteout - EXCELLENT ONE!!!
Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 6: Happy Birthday - I think this gets you to #500. :)
The Road to Civil War (Marvel Comics) - I think this one had some good stuff in it.
Annihilation, Book 1 (Marvel Comics) - YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! HIGH RECOMMENDATION LEVEL HERE!!! Vol.s 2 & 3 are even better!!!
Incredible Hulk: Planet Hulk Prelude TPB - PASS and get the HC!
Daredevil Vol. 3: Wake Up - GET ON THIS ALREADY!!! ;)
New Avengers Vol. 2: Sentry - I liked this arc! It's pre-CW tho.
Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol. 4 - Can't ever go wrong here.
Astonishing X-Men Vol. 3: Torn - It's ok. I'd wait until V 4 is out.
Essential Avengers, Vol. 1 (Marvel Essentials) - If you want a LOT of material and don't mind B&W
The Ultimates, Vol. 1 Hardcover - EXCELLENT!!!
Ultimate Fantastic Four Vol. 2: Doom - This was ok.
Avengers Disassembled - Read BEFORE HoM.
Haven't read:
Outsiders:Looking for Trouble
Atom: A Life in Minature
Trials of Shazam: Volume 1
Began/Boxed
DMZ Vol. 1: On the Ground
Out of Time (Exiles, Book 3)
Teen Titans: Beast Boys and Girls (Book 3)
Starman: Sins of the Father (Book 1)
Ode To Kirihito - DYING TO READ THIS!!!
Batman: Face the Face
Jonah Hex Vol. 1: Face Full of Violence
All Star Superman: Volume 1
Batman Chronicles: Volume One
Justice League of America: Another Nail (Elseworlds)
Green Lantern Corps: Recharge
Manhunter: Street Justice (Book 1)
The Halo Graphic Novel
52: Volume 1
Ion: The Torchbearer (Volume 1)
Of Like Minds (Birds of Prey)
Marvel Adventures The Avengers Vol. 1: Heroes Assembled
Legion of Super-Heroes, Book 2: Death of a Dream
Showcase Presents: Justice League of America, Vol. 1
Absolute DC: The New Frontier

Wow! You guys went ALL OUT with the feedback! THANKS!
Ironically, I saw a few auctions on eBay for Amazing Spider-Man Vol 6 & 7 that I just couldn't pass up. If I lose those auctions, I'll go with the cream of the crop within these recommendations. To pick out the best, I gave a star for each recommendation you guys gave. For pmpknface I just went with the stuff he liked the most since there was so much there:) I'm not buying ALL of these. Just gonna get a few at a time.
Gravity: Big-City Super Hero Digest ****
Whiteout ****
Maus : A Survivor's Tale : My Father Bleeds History/Here My Troubles Began/Boxed ***
100 Bullets Vol. 1: First Shot, Last Call ***
Thor Visionaries - Walt Simonson, Vol. 1 **
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 2 **
Annihilation, Book 1 (Marvel Comics) **
Daredevil Vol. 3: Wake Up **
Absolute DC: The New Frontier **
The Walking Dead Book 2 **
Ultimate Spider-Man, Vol. 4 **
The Ultimates, Vol. 1 Hardcover **
Sentinel Volume 3: Past Imperfect Digest *
All Star Superman: Volume 1 *
Fantastic Four Visionaries - John Byrne, Vol. 1 *
Starman: Sins of the Father (Book 1) *
Marvel Knights Fantastic Four, Vol. 1: Wolf at the Door *
Of Like Minds (Birds of Prey) *
Invincible: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 2 *
New Avengers Vol. 2: Sentry *
Essential Avengers, Vol. 1 (Marvel Essentials) *
And it's funny, this kind of taught me what I want the most, because when certain books didn't get many votes, I found myself thinking "But I REALLY wanted to get that!" Here's the ones I caught myself doing that with:
Annihilation, Book 1 (Marvel Comics)
Incredible Hulk: Planet Hulk Prelude TPB
Incredible Hulk: Planet Hulk HC
Daredevil Vol. 3: Wake Up
Legion of Super-Heroes, Book 2: Death of a Dream
Invincible: Ultimate Collection, Vol. 2
The Walking Dead Book 2
Showcase Presents: Justice League of America, Vol. 1
Essential Avengers, Vol. 1 (Marvel Essentials)
The Ultimates, Vol. 1 Hardcover
Oh and regarding this:
The Thor Vol.'s 2-3 are sometimes hard to find tho.
I looked on Amazon and those vol.'s are going for like $60-80!!! No thanks. Guess I'll wait for the big "40 Years Of..." DVD.

And after listening to the podast, I should have added Irredeamable Ant-Man to the list. I'm just on the fence with the fact that he's a jerk.

It's a digest, so after discounts it should be < $1 per issue! He's not a total jerk, ok... maybe he is. But it's still fun.
And if you like that art team, you'll really dig it!
Plus, this one won't show up for 2 months. You need other NEW material now, right? ;)

I LOVE the art team, so that's going for me too.
What else besides Battle Pope does Kirkman write? Battle Pope's a little too close to home for me to not be somewhat offended:/

Lemme see...
Walking Dead
Invincible
Brit (Complete collection solicited for not too long ago)
Ultimate X-Men (reccently, last year maybe?)
Marvel Team-Up 1-25 (in tpb now)
There were some Image mini's he did. One had Invincible in it (I forget the name). I think he also did one called TECHJACKET that's in digest form.
Marvel Zombies, of course.
I did that off the top of my head, but here's his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kirkman

Cool, thank you sir! There's some stuff in the wiki that I TOTALLY forgot about! I should put Kirkman on my "Buy whatever he does" lists.
Captain America Vol.4 #29-32 (2004)
Marvel Knights: 2099 (2004)
Jubilee #1-6 (2004)
Fantastic Four: Foes #1-6 (2005)
Marvel Zombies #1-5 (2005-2006)
I think I might have to get his Marvel Knights: 2099. I'll probably get Marvel Zombies when it goes to trade.
And it looks like, thanks to Loren's would-be ebay auction, I'm gettin' the first 2 Whiteout trades and JLA Another Nail! :D
Were there any other Whiteout trades after the first 2?

No problem! If you can find the EPIC 1-shot (canned after the 1st ish :( ) it's good too.
Marvel Zombies is a tpb (http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Zombies-TPB-Robert-Kirkman/dp/0785120149/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-0082608-3132956?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177528031&sr=8-2), but for less than a $ you can get the HC. (http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Zombies-Robert-Kirkman/dp/078512277X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-0082608-3132956?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177528031&sr=8-1)

Run over to Amazon and search his name. He did an Image series called CAPES.
No - just the 2 WHITEOUT collections, the 1st one and then "Melt." After that Rucka moved on to do QUEEN AND COUNTRY.

Yeah, but the trade will eventually get a lot cheaper used on Amzon, I'm sure.

While we are on the Kirkman tangent, don't forget Capes #1~3 released a couple of years ago. Art by Mark Englert. These issues and the recent back-ups from the monthly book will soon be released as a TPB in July or August or whenever it ships.
If your list is still valid, I'd choose these 2 to read. :)
But read them all if you can. ;)
