July's Supergirl solicit reveals that it will Joe Kelly's final issue on the title. Who would you like to chronicle Kara's adventures next?
Originally I hoped to try and restrict the discussion to "realistic" choices, i.e. no Alan Moore or writers who are exclusive to Marvel for the immediate future. However, my top choice is a real long shot given that DC has shown little interest in having him work on their mainstream DCU titles and he's publically stated a preference for focusing on creator-owned work from now on. That choice is Brian K. Vaughan.
I love BKV. I think his one of the most consistently entertaining and intelligent writers in mainstream comics, plus he's demonstrated a great flair for writing young characters in books such as Ultimate X-Men and the masterful Runaways. His work with Tefe in his underrated Swamp Thing title for Vertigo proved he can write a character who can be a bit bratty and immature and yet make them surprisingly appealing.
A somewhat more likely choice would be the newly exclusive Sean McKeever. He also has demonstrated an affinity for young characters in books like The Waiting Place and The Inhumans.
Mike Carey is another writer I would like to see on the book. His Lucifer was genius and he's a versatile writer. DC hasn't really taken advantage of his talents in their mainstream universe so far, but his Marvel superhero work has been a revelation. I doubt he has the time to add another book with all his current projects.
Some other people that might be good: Dwayne McDuffie, Will Pfiefer, Adam Warren, or Marc Andreyko.
Two writers I hope they avoid: Mark Waid (I didn't like his vapid LSH version of Kara) and Greg Rucka (that Kandor storyline was just awful).
Marc Andreyko and Will Pheiffer would be good as they are good writers and can write women well. As would Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti. All are writers who know how to write strong, feminine women with a sense of self.
I don't want Carey or Vaughn. I find them both boring.
I don't know that much about Waid. But as all the people who seem to complain about Kelley's SG seem to like him. I would rather him stay away from this book.

Hopefully, DC will do the right thing and get Sean McKeever onto this title. He has a natural affinity for how teenagers speak without things coming off contrived, as SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE proves every month.

Agreed on Waid; Supergirl was never such an "airhead blonde" stereotype until Waid (and Loeb) got their mitts on her.

I haven't read much of his work, but from what I know of him, McKeever would be fine. I also think Marc Andreyko would be a good choice.

I'm going with McKeever as well

In a perfect world, it would be Andi Watson.
But I'd love to see someone like Adam Warren take on this lame Supergirl. Mckeever would also be wonderful as he can write good youth dialogue. Another person I wouldn't mind seeing try taking on this character would be Gilberto Hernandez.
I really don't like ths SuperParisHilton character, but they need to write her not being Lohan-esque and dress her up like some superwhore with the cutoff shirt. Then I can support her if she looked a little presentable.

waid (brave and the bold 3-writes her to perfection) mckeever or andreyko;he needs more high profile work, because he's super talented and they need to use him or lose him.

As would Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti.
I would love these two to take over, I love their style. I dunno how involved they are going to be in Countdown though, it may eat up much of their time.

Well, they did give Mark Waid yet another Legion to write so it could happen. :p
I kind of like maybe Gail Simone. She did well in bringing Birds of Prey to a broader audience and making it very a "grrl power" book and fleshing out the team and their world around them. I hear she's leaving BOP so maybe she's got time now.
Whoever it is needs tom make Supergirl more dimensional and give her a distinct world to live and operate in.

The shirt I don't mind, a bare midriff worked in the Animated series.
What I don't like is how tiny and low-riding her skirt is- thats not even trendy anymore especially with all the girls you mentioned flashing their kitties to the press.

Anybody who is not Joe Kelly.
But with Sean McKeever writing it, I'd pick the title up again.

Yeah, but understandably, PAD has already expressed no interest in this SG incarnation. :D

They're probably going to be too busy justifying the new Terra in an upcoming series as well.

Gail gave up BOP for WONDER WOMAN so I don't think she'll be available for awhile.

I dunno, I hated their issue. They might be better served on grim & gritty books.

Oh, I hadn't known that. Is he going to be the ongoing writer for Wonder Woman?
I think she's good and it'd be cool if Wonder Woman had an ongoing writer (let alone a woman writing her)

Yep. IIRC, she takes over sometime in late summer/early fall....that is, if DC keeps the title on schedule. :D
Don't know who the new ongoing artist is yet, but Gail's strongly hinting that it's a MAJOR name.

Well, we'll have to wait and see how things turn out; however, the odds of overall success with the character certainly aren't in her favor, no matter what gender the writer is.

I'm an aspiring writer -- so I'll be frank. Every single time I see a thread asking who should take over as the next writer of a title starring this superhero character or that superhero team or whatever . . . the first answer that pops into my mind is always "ME! ME! ME! PICK ME! I'M READY!" :D :D :D
(And in this particular case, where the latest in a long string of Supergirl concepts is concerned, it would be a particularly challenging exercise to try to find a way to tell stories about her that were actually reasonably appealing, self-consistent, and so forth. I'd probably end up simply ignoring 98% of what's been done so far by Loeb and others.)

I don't understand where this comparison to Paris Hilton comes up.
Paris Hilton isn't bright lacks self respect and is superficial.(or at least that's how she pretends to be in order to get media attention).
Kara is the exact opposite. Neither do I get the 'superwhore' comparison. The costume is essentially a variation on a cheerleeders outfit and she's no more scantily dressed than most women in comic books.

I'm very disappointed that Kelly is leaving. Out of the ones mentioned, only McKeever gets any interest from me.
I'm going to say it won't be him though with him on BoP.
For some reason I'm thinking Winick.
