Much to Peter Quill's chagrin, the universe is going to need Star-Lord. This July in "Annihilation: Conquest - Star-Lord," Quill and a team of misfits head out on a desperate mission. We spoke with writer Keith Giffen.

This gives me a lot of confidence that A:C will be at the same level as the original. Not that I ever doubted Giffen, but you know what I mean.

Thanks for doing this series, Jonah.

I'm curious if he'll address Starlord in all that background examining.

More cryptic hints at the foe having control over high technology. I'm really wondering who or what this is- or even if the techno wizard is the same being that is behind Annihilation at all.

Does the apparent Kree connection narrow it down for anyone else? Offhand, I could see the Supreme Intelligence doing something like controlling technology, but it just doesn't quite sound his style (unless the lobotomized SI is acting up and needs to be permanently put down or something).

The only other species on Hala is the Cotati, and they're definitely not technology users. The various Lunatic Legions are either dead or disbanded. The Sentries are (with one exception) non-sentient, the Priests of Pama are pacifists, and Fredd is dead.

I'm thinking it almost has to come from somewhere else. Maybe what Quill and his team are looking for is some kind of Kree superweapon to oppose the invaders. The Psyche-Magnitron, perhaps?

Here's a thought....

The Dire Wraiths are/were a Deviant offshoot of the Skrulls. And while we've seen a Kree Eternal, we've never seen a Kree Deviant.

Could Wraith have been a Kree raised by the Dire Wraiths?

In Nova # 4 solicitation, it is mentioned that the villain locks down space -Nova will not be able to leave. The only person I know who can do that is Galactus. He did it to the Silver Surfer when the Surfer betrayed him. But we know it's not the Big G. But maybe it's one of the Proemial gods or Tyrant. I don't think the Proemial gods were mentioned in "Heralds" just to explain T & A's existence.

This actually sounds pretty good.

And maybe might get that long awaited Rocket Raccoon collection off the ground!

My conerns on the art might be unjustified-- the art looks good on these pages. Particularly the coloring on Raccoon's face-- terrific!

I had no idea who Peter Quill was before, but when Giffen uses terms like 'romp' I smile and just know it's going to be good.

I wonder why he is using bullets.

The enemy can't be hurt by Energy weapons but can be by bullets?

I was under the impression that the energy weapons would be useless because they're fighting a technological threat. Since standard guns aren't that sophisticated, they would become the weapon of choice.

That's what I got out of it, too. The problem with energy weapons against this villain is less their efficacy than their actually functioning.

Projectile weapons don't need to have electronics to work, after all.

Really lookin' forward to this.

I just wish they do an "Essential Star-lord" or some sort of Omnibus so we can get to enjoy all those early stories again. They're hard to find, and I'd definitely pay the $$$ to have them in a collected volume.
