Lots of us know each other, of course, but since CBR is rising anew, it seems like a good idea to renew acquaintance, as part of rebuilding community from our shared loss. So, I present this thread - in which we can each tell everyone who we are.
I'm Jeffrey. I work as a psychotherapist in Des Moines, Iowa. I have a few professional psych publications. I've been a comics fan since about age 6 - i.e. 34 years, give or take. I've been a fan of role-play gaming for 23 years. I like to cook when I have time. I read a lot. I like to hike and go on long walks. One of my oddest habits is that I read and walk at the same time, often doing so for hours, stopping only to use a bathroom or refill a water bottle. I've been doing this since age 6 and I have pretty good awareness of my surrroundings, so I can do this without stumbling, walking into things or in front of traffic, etc. It's a pretty handy skill, because I'm pretty busy, and this way I can read and get exercise at the same time.
I am married (second marriage) to my wife, julianne. My and juli's relationship is a D/s one as well as husband/wife. We're also active swingers. I have a son, age 11, who lives with my ex and visits me some weekends, and a stepson, age 13, who lives with juli and me and juli but visits his father most weekends.
I at least visit most of the boards at CBR from time to time, but most of my posting is done here at Comm, Rumbles, YABS, the Marvel Universe board or Music.
I'm Domenick
22 year old accountant from Montreal. Recently got into comics, like all things creative.
I'm presently "attached" to a wonderful girl, whose pics will soon grace CBR anew.
Also, my brother drank all my Glenfarclas, so I may have to kill him.

I'm Pat. I used to be Wallcrawl (like five years ago in chat). Then I was Drenn. I'm a music kid and can draw fairly well (though lack real motivation to pursue drawing with the amount of seriousness that I probably should). I'm in junior year of high school (almost over!) and it's hell -- trying to get into Berkeley or Columbia or NYU -- the first two are far-fetched at this point. There's more, which you might learn in time..................

I've been wanting to change my user name for a while, and since we're starting from scratch, WHEEE!!!! Here we go!
So. I figured this was a good place to post this:
I used to go by FlameStar.
My new name is Solaris.
(You can call me "Sol" if you want, but don't shorten it to "Larry"---I don't look like a "Larry.") :D
And to reinterate in case anyone doesn't know, I'm female, 41, and DarkBlade and Chibi's mom.
I haven't checked out the avatars yet; should get around to that eventually. Anyway, here we go again! (To steal a line from SilverSpider.) :)
***Dang it---I guess I can't upload my avatar until I get to that magic number of posts again... sigh.***

I'm simply J.D....surprisingly 31 years of age and owner of SimplyJD Online (http://www.simplyjd.com), which is becoming more of my online resume' for comic talent to look at. (if people care I'll tell)
I work at a freight forwarding company doing documentation for cargo on ocean vessels. Strict 9-5 weekends off nice paying job. Then I come home and work on my site from 6-12 most nites. My gal Mary (people, prodd her via email to REJOIN) lives and works with me and we're more in love then is should be allowed.
How could I not adore a woman who loves and has many of the dorky habits I've got? ;) Much of our time is taken up as of late travelling all over the East coast with various comic cons and hanging out with everyone's favorite creators that are in attendance. It is fun and so far we've already hit a tiny one in Jersey that had great networking results...hit Pittsburgh and we're getting ready for Wizard Philly this weekend only to THEN be ready for the Toronto comic con shortly after that.
Whirlwind tour? You betcha...but it is fun and incredible and is becoming out lives. Really...besides that? I love going to the movies, even if the last two I've seen are Van Helsing and Troy. DVDs are a huge part of my collecting furvor as well as comics of course. Oh, I like to drink...and when I grow up, I wanna drink with Howy one day.;)

Yeah, it's still me. I'm a 38 year-old accountant living in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. I love games, especially rpgs and ccgs, and once a month I dress up like a vampire with about 50 of my friends. I am slightly obsessed with physical fitness, and I am happily involved with a somewhat difficult 23 year-old coed named Amy. CBR is my favorite site on the entire internet.

I'm a comics fan obviously, though I've only been back into the hobby (obsession) for about 4 or 5 years after taking a 9 year break.
I'm very single.
Love music and TV/Film. You'll see my Update threads in those Forums almost daily.
Work, sleep, eat, watch TV/Film, listen to music, read. Oh,and I also write my weekly online column, The Couch Potato Review (http://www.simplyjd.com/cpr/main.shtml). Check it out!
That's the bare bones extent of my life. It's not thrilling like some people, but hey if you want to know more, you can always PM me and who knows I may just share too much. :D

I'm Wasim, or Webs to some. A student studying drama and also working part time in a research company. Am 22 from London, England and love comics (paticularly Marvel and Vertigo titles). No prizes for guessing who's my favourite comic character! ;) Been here since October 2002, and love it due to the fact that there are people that share the same hobby but mainly because most of the posters I've chatted with are amongst the friendliest and coolest people.
Cei-U!
05-16-2004, 06:53 PM
Cei-U!, everybody's favorite living lightning bolt, here, better known out in the real world as Kurt Mitchell. I'm just your average middle-aged white boy from Tacoma except that I've been in a wheelchair most of my life thanks to a birth defect with the improbable name Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (which is Latin for “God has a sick sensahumor”). It doesn't stop me from living a full life or being an arrogant a*hole occasionally so don't cut me any slack, y'hear?
I've been a comic book fan for as long as I can remember, though that is by no means my only interest. I've been collecting steadily since '68. My collection topped out around 8,000 but now hovers at a comfortable 2900 or so. I focus mostly on super-hero comics (Golden Age DC and Silver Age DC, Marvel, Gold Key, King, Charlton, Tower and Warren) but there is also a soft spot in my heart for great old newspaper strips like Pogo, Thimble Theatre and Little Orphan Annie.
After graduating from the University of Washington in '79, where I majored in Art and minored in Film Studies, I began working as a freelance graphic artist, even working as a penciller briefly for Marvel in '81 (my work was never published). Sadly, my disability made it too difficult to produce the volume of work necessary to make it in comics so I went back to school and learned computer programming. I spent 12 years in the information technology industry, eventually winding up as the Data Administrator for the Washington State Attorney General's Office. I left that job in '98 for reasons too complicated to go into here.
Currently, I'm working on several writing projects including a Justice Society Silver and Bronze Age Index and a novel, Lash House, based on the DC characters. I also have a screenplay, a couple of short stories and a proposal for a couple of comic book series in the formative stages.
I discovered CBR on my first day online back in '96 and I've been part of the community ever since, though I've been forced to disappear temporarily from time to time. I love this place and these people. I feel privileged to be here and I hope everyone reading this does too. Thanks, Jonah!

My name is Aaron Kashtan. I'm 21. I'm a student at Brown University, currently in my junior year, studying comparative literature and art history. Considering going to graduate school for comparative literature. I'm a brother of Zeta Delta Xi, a co-ed fraternity.
I've been reading comics since I was 7 or 8 years old. Currently I read a wide variety of stuff, including both contemporary and classic comics. I've been posting at CBR since early 1998 at least, and used to have a reputation for being really polite, but I don't know if that's true anymore.
And now you know more about me than you did when you started reading this post, unless you knew all of this already.

Ah. Well, I'm Coral, 26. female. As it implies in my sig, I'm mainly a roleplayer, but I do read comics now and then. Actually, I'm a big fan of "supernatural" comics, and will gladly discuss them with anyone. I'm also a follower of Native American Spirituality (ie, I'm pagan as all heck) and also discuss that with polite people. Hm, GM for two games involving board people, player for one. And I could certainly have done much worse then having these wonderful people to game with, which is the main reason I stay.

My name is actually Andrea. Im 16 (I haven't decided if this is fourtunately or unfourtunately) I live in Canada, and...
I actually dontread comics.
I HAVE read them, just not many, and only after I started posting here (because MisTrust is here, and Im friends with her, and Smoogis too,and then I met all you cool kids!)
some of my hobbies include: Drawing (Im not very good at all, but I try) Playing the piano, Im hoping to take voice lessons, cheerleading, gymnastics, karate and swimming. I want to do rowing with my school next year..and maybe break a few bones while im at it.
some things you might not know about me : I have a blue freckle. Its NOT a pen mark, it's honestly blue. I keep telling my dad (who is a doctor) and he says he should look at it and never does. So if I suddenly die that could be the cause...
I also can't keep my eyes open when I brush my teeth. Or when people play with my hair. It puts me to sleep.
I have a tendancy to ramble if you haven't already noticed...so I'll stop now ;)
 CC.
Wow...I would strongly advise anyone who does not already know everything about everyone on these boards and is attempting to read all the posts in this thread to not do so all in one sitting. If you do, you're likely to wind up thinking that JefferyWKramer has published a few professional papers on Howyadoin's alcoholic relationship with a rotten fruit dressed up as a mattbib who is parading around as a penguin who believes there is nothing other than the self, all while majoring in comparative literature and contemplating grad school in the same.
I'm Core. I'm 28. People whom I meet in real life usually call me Craig. Some of them occasionally have the unsavory penchant for calling me @*&%# or sometimes even you stupid @*&%#, but the latter I tend to laugh off, whereas the former is usually someone who has just cause for holding that opinion of me.
At the time of posting this, I'm trying to convince the good people at the graduate school of the University of Arkansas to let me into their MA program for literature.
Okay, there's more to come in this story, I'm sure, but part of me feels like I've just broached the second act.
Oh yeah, I'm in love.

I mostly hang out in the Anime, Games, and Community boards, but I wander around the whole place when I get bored.

Hello!
I'm DarkBlade. Yes, I'll answer to that outloud. I first lurked on CBR, then registered as SenshiJedi. I think that was in 1999? Somewhere around there. Lost track of the site, came back again a year later as DarkBlade, and DarkBlade I remain. :) I'm 21 years old. ChibiStarJumper is my sister, she's three years younger than me. Solaris is my mom.
Yeah, we've got a celestial theme goin' on here.
In case you didn't know, I'm going out with Tadhg Adams. Or rather, we're together. Whenever we can be barring the annoying obstacle of a few states. I'm down here around metro Atlanta. I go to Georgia Perimeter College. I hope to transfer to UGA to earn my Bachelor of Social Work degree.
I'm an artist of varying sorts. I draw when my hands allow. Pencil, charcoal, pastel, inks, paints, all sorts of 2-d mediums. 3-D when I have access to materials and facilities. Ceramics are great fun. ^_^ Don't do much with chainmail weaving anymore. Still occasionally play music. (Mallet percussion, hand drums, piano primarily. I play around on a penny whistle when I won't annoy people.) I sew, both for practical things like clothes and curtains, and costumes that I wear to conventions. I used to fence, practice karate, and gymnastics. Still use some adapted martial arts, and I'm looking into the fencing thing again, but gymnastics and wheelchairs don't really work.
I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was five. It's an autoimmune disease, where my immune system produces antibodies that attack joint tissues and stuff. We thought I outgrew it, but in highschool it started to return, and in the last year it's done so with a vengance. It's systematic, meaning that if affects all my joints. I have half a dozen other things that have developed since, but I won't bore you with them. I'm on an interesting variety of medicines to treat things and deal with pain. There's been talk that Cei-U and I should race at SDCC this year; I think he'd kick my ass.
I love to read. I'm muchly into Star Wars, as well as fantasy/sci-fi in general. I read comics when I can afford them, as well as manga. Actually, I co-mod the Anime/Manga board with Azangel, and the Dark Horse board with Justin Davis. I play various pen, paper, & dice RPG games, as well as some computer ones. I like to cook. I'm an amature herbalist, and want to join the SCA at some point. My hair is dark, and falls past my waist. I'll dye it with temp dyes, but for now I refuse to bleach it.
Alright, I've rambled on enough. I'll see ya around the forums!

I'm Michelle I'm a Corrections Officer in Anderson County. I'm single now and live with my grandmother, which wasn't always the case on both counts. I graduated Collage with an associates in art, but still considering on wither or not to get my bachalors. I wanted to draw comics for the a very long time, but I have shifted my goal to writing recently when I realized I enjoy writing more. I have been writing since early childhood with my first short stories dating from when I was in 6th grade. I'm currently working on my first draft of a novel right now and hope to finish it by november. I constantly post in my Livejournal. I have been a part of several collaborative stories on the NEB since I joined first CBR in late '96.

I'm Chelsea, and I like comics and video games. I'm moving to Florida this summer, and I know I'm going to hate it because there are freakin HURRICANES down there. I joined CBR around August last year and lurked around for a while. I like drawing, even though I suck at it, but if anyone asks, it's "stylized". I don't have a job, since I'm still in school, and I currently hate my English/History ("Core", they stick em together at my school) teacher. That's about it.
Actually, that's not it. Forgot to add that I'm probably the youngest poster on CBR, at the tender age of 13 (14 in August). Also, hate to break to GoNolez (when she shows up), but she's not the only black girl in CBR. I'm a girl, and I'm black. Also, I'm a Yankees fan, and because of that I utterly despise Roger Clemens.

CBR: So, who are you?
csaver: My name is Chance Saver, I'm 34, married to a wonderful woman who walks on the ground I worship, and I'm from Inver Grove Heights, MN.
CBR: Chance Saver...csaver...that's not terribly clever.
csaver: Neither is deleting everyone's posts.
CBR: Umm...moving on. How did you get to know about our little community?
csaver: Came across it while looking for comic book chatrooms two years ago. A nice kid named Pulpatoon invited me into the MSN chatroom, and things went on from there.
CBR: Make a lot of friends?
csaver: I wouldn't say a lot of friends, but the ones I did make are some of the best friends a person could have. Really wonderful people.
CBR: Like?
csaver: Well, there's Pulpatoon (if that's the name he's keeping), who lives in England and is the greatest, greatest, greatest friend a newbie dork like me could have had when I first joined up. Just a real good friend. And then there is quarterwolf, who should come as no surprise to anyone on this board that he is one of the sweetest guys on the PLANET. And Cosmic Cat, who draws a LOT better than she thinks she does. And others here and there.
CBR: Did you post often on the boards?
csaver: Who...me? Umm...Oh yeah! All the time!
CBR: Uh....huh. You sure about that?
csaver: Well, we'll never know, now will we?
CBR: Looking for comic book chatrooms, huh? Can we assume that you actually read comic books then?
csaver: Oh yeah! Isn't that quaint?
CBR: And what do you like?
csaver: I'm a Bendis nut. Really. Pulse, DD, his Ultimate stuff...I can't get enough. I mean, if I wrote comics, I would write just like him. Or more to the point, he writes like me....if I had talent.
CBR: You lost me.
csaver: I have that effect on people. Oh, and I like Captain America too. It would be great if someone actually wrote him right. I could go on and on about ol' Cap.
CBR: We have other boards for that.
csaver: Yeah, well...I need the time. I plan to go to the CBR SDCC camp in 2005, and I want people to actually know who I am. I think I gotta post more often.
CBR: Thought you said you posted a lot before.
csaver: Ack! I mean...of course! Just...yknow, for the new people, you understand.
CBR: I see. Well, good to have you aboard, csaver.
csaver: Good to be here. Nite all.

Hey. I'm the recent 28-year-old Punchy McPuncherson. I've been coming around CBR for a little over 2 1/2 years now, orginally in the old school chat room then to the boards the last time they changed format.
I'm a musician. When I say I'm a musician I really mean I'm a musician by trade and not a waiter with a garage band who aspires to be the next Blink 182. I play the double bass, jazz mostly. I am lucky enough to play music full time and I tour all over the place mostly with this vocalist named Steve Tyrell. I like to meet CBR folk in my travels and have met posters from the east coast to the west coast, London, and even Austrailia.
I live in Los Angeles with the lovely wifey. She teaches English to eighth graders in a very impoverished neighborhood. She's cool.
I love comics but none of my friends ever did, that is why I came to CBR. Now I have a bunch of friends who love comics.

I'm Greg. Been here since April of 1999, always under this name. Currently I moderate the TV and Film Board, and I am also one of the supermod/admin types here, though not as ruthless as Matt or as hot as Tom.
I live in Seattle, where I scratch out a living as a magazine writer and artist and schoolteacher. Engaged to a mission worker, Julie, who should be along in a bit... she was revved about changing her board name and re-registering.

*takes a deep breath*
I'm Matt Bib. Hence my user name. I've been a poster at CBR approximately since the last reboot in early 2002. I'm 31. Born, raised, and still live here in Wilmington, Delaware, which is about a fifteen minute drive south of Philadelphia. I'm the oldest of five siblings, having three brothers and one sister. I'm single.
I work as a purchasing manager for a major financial institution. Well, I make it look like I'm working anyway. I've been there for over seven years now and have seven employees in two states. Like that means anything.
I'm an Eagle Scout and am currently the Scoutmaster of the same troop of which I was a youth member. I've been an adult leader now for thirteen years. I still love it too. The camping and other outdoor activities are an added bonus to the chance I get to make in developing some of our local youth.
Hobbies? Well, I read comics. As Tom once described me I'm an unapologetic X-fan. In my eyes Chris Claremont can do no wrong. I'm a Marvel Zombie. I also like to draw occasionally.
I really just like to have fun. I love to travel. I love to hang out with friends or have a drink. Or several. I enjoy the opportunity to meet and talk to other CBR posters. I love the communities here at CBR. When not here you can usually find me over on the X-Books forum.

Hi,
I'm Rick. Umm... I think I created many of you. :D Well, okay... I'm actually the online personna of Rick Olney, founder and director of the comics fandom advocacy group infamously known as "ORCA" ... and I have a four year old convention too, that I created and manage all.by.myself.
I'm not really annoying, ignorant, or a troll. So please ignore anyone that would hint or suggest such a thing. Frankly, I think it is a tad funny (in a sad, strange way) that I had thousands of posts as "Cynergy54" and decided to use my old screen name here of "orcafresh" (a name I'm known by elsewhere on the big I) and upon making a post to announce that I was starting over -- the boards go kaput. If I didn't know Jonah better, I'd swear that he and Tom had teamed up to try and make me paranoid. Oh! And did I mention that I'm really not paranoid either? Ummm... 'cause I'm not. :)
Wow, was I ever surprised. That George Bush can do anything! We live in a scary world...

05-16-2004, 10:30 PM
Well, let's see. I'm of Chinese descent, born and raised in Malaysia, and currently living in San Francisco, CA with my fiance, Brandon Hanvey. I have a B.A. in Journalism and English Literature, and with any luck, I'll earn an M.A. in Speech & Communication Studies in a few weeks. I often think I have good grammar and writing skills, but I'm really only deluding myself.
I have a rather strong passion for anything technology-related. I love gadgets and gizmos, and follow tech news pretty religiously. I like tinkering about with the web, as far as learning more about coding HTML, CSS, PHP, and that sort of thing. I'm still very much a novice at that, however. I just like messing about with computers in general; I'm always looking for new plug-ins and utilities to try out, tweaking the look and feel of the computer, trying to increase its functionality, etc. I'm definitely not an expert, mostly because I've never had any kind of computer training, and I've learned a lot of it through trial and error. Some time this summer, I'm also going to start building a computer for the first time, and I'm looking forward to that.
My dream job would probably incorporate both my skills and my passion for this stuff. That is, I'd love to be a tech journalist, or a web producer of a tech news sorta site, etc. That said, my second dream job would be in some sort of editorial position in a publishing or media company.
I like reading, though I admit I've not had time for leisurely reading lately. I'm a pretty big Neil Gaiman fan, both of his novels and his comic work. The comics I like include: Sandman, Watchmen, Lucifer, Fables, Promethea, etc. I also like a few indie titles, like Derek Kirk Kim's stuff and Jason Shiga's stuff (I'm rather biased here because they're friends :D).
My favorite TV shows include Good Eats (huge Alton Brown fan here), CSI, The Daily Show, Monk, etc. I'm also a huge fan of TechTV's Call For Help and The ScreenSavers (I've actually interned for TechTV this Spring semester), and I'm a little upset about the recent TechTV merger/takeover, but I'd rather not address that here. As far as music goes, I like They Might Be Giants, Weezer, Tori Amos, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, alterna-rock stuff, etc.
I think I've exhausted my bio details, but I'll add more to this post later when I can think of anything else.
My name is Rick Diehl.
I’m 41 years old and am married to the lovely, Trouble O’Hara.
This is the fourth marriage for each of us.
I have twin daughters who are 22 named Sarah and Jessica. A 14 year old step-daughter named Cassie and a almost 3 year old granddaughter named Tara Gotham.
All are extremely cute, and all have me wrapped around their little fingers..
I was in the military for a big hunk of the 1980’s but before and after that I spent almost 25 years working for comicbook stores and for quite awhile Diamond.
These days I’m a civilian, not only from the Navy, but also from Comic work. I’m the facilities manager for one of the universities here in Colorado Springs. It doesn’t pay much, but still way better then comics ever did.
Quite a bit of my past is shrouded in mystery, but I have lived in communes, slept with Anton Levay’s daughter, sold highly illegal substances, and received a scar about 8 inches long on my chest after getting stabbed.
These days life is somewhat calmer.
The Grand Beef
05-16-2004, 10:56 PM
Hello, I'm The Grand Beef. My real name is Rich. I'm 22 and live in the mountians of North Carolina. I work in a pharmacy and in the cafe' and music department of Barnes & Nizzou.
I've been reading comics since I was like 6 or thereabouts and have been coming to CBR for...about 5 years I guess. I'm not sure, I have a bad memory, but its been awhile.
I don't go to school. Everyone asks me that. If I was going to school I would tell you, okay people? GET OFF MY BACK! ...*ahem* oh my, so surry. ANYway.... I don't have a significant other at this point, though I do enjoy the sex every so often. I also enjoy reading (when I can), hanging out with friends (when I'm not working), painting (if I can find the time), doing outdoorsy thangs (when I'm not busy). But lately, I've just been working my ass off and haven't had a social life for about 2 months.
Speaking of that, I have to BE at work in about 4 hours. Later crackheads.
Beefy!
LyleLyle
05-16-2004, 11:06 PM
I'm Lyle, 30 year old NorCal stereotype. I live in San Fran, prefer to get by via public transit (or walking), thinks the veggies from the famers' market tastes better than at the Safeway, refuses to eat meat that doesn't at least claim to have been raised on a vegetarian diet, prefers food in small portions, finds Coupling superior to Frends and Miyazaki superior to Pixlar. I'm not snobbish enough to like opera, but I did see the trial run of Baz Lurmann's La Boheme.
I like comics but rarely talk about them here because I rarely find time to make it to the shop and therefore don't have anything to say about recent books until people have finished discussing it. I'm more of a Vertigo fan than anything else. My current reads include: Plastic Man, Wonder Woman, Fables, Y:TLM, Lucifer, Catwoman, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Spidey, Human Target, Promethia, Swamp Thing, Hellblazer and probably more stuff I'm not thinking of.
I also read some manga. I like some of the stuff I can find in manga that the American industry isn't putting out. Currently reading: Fake, Tuxedo Gin, Buddah, Phoenix, Demon Diary, Banana Fish and Iron Wok Jan. I also like the occasional Erica Sakuazawa title, while Adolf and Uzumaki remain titles I keep returning to.
I dream of a Vertigo revival of Sinister House of Secret Love. Despite the campy name, it was a pretty cool book.
I live with a wonderful, though occasionally grumpy and sullen boyfriend who I was calling Occam, because of the approach to life we disagre on. He gravitates to simple, I look at everything in complex terms. We're currently trying to buy a home (a descent into madness in this city) and he doesn't have trouble evaluating a place on a scale of 1 to 10; I need to tally a scorecard evaluating every important aspect.
But I think I'll start calling him Ween, instead. It's easier to type and it does summarize him better since he reminds me of Barry Ween. I can't call him Barry since he has a co-worker with that name who infuriates him... then again 'co-worker who infuriates him' seems redundant with Ween.

I'm 24 years old, and just finished a degree in Graphic Design from the U of MN. I really don't like graphic design though...
In anycase I like draw, run, play basketball and read comics. As far as comics go, I read Batman, Flash, Gotham Central, Teen Titans and Ultimate Spiderman regularily. I also like to read the daily comics. I really hate Family Circus and Garfield but find myself reading it everyday nevertheless.
I'm most often in NBA forum, the Batman forum, the DC comics forum, or the music forum.
Peace.
Orchid Thief
05-17-2004, 12:21 AM
Hi, I'm Kim. I'm an orchidophile. My name Orchid Thief is derived from the fact that I currently own over 80 orchids ...and have stolen a few of them from stores and whatnot where they were being poorly cared for.
I'm 20 (soon to be 21 in July). I'm a student at Washington State University (Pullman, WA) majoring in Horticulture. I go home in the summers to Federal Way, WA where I've lived my entire life. This summer I got a job working at a plant nursery. It's all going well...preparing for my career in the horticulture industry...I'm learning alot.
I have a boyfriend. You all know him as the Hulk board mod, Mike Smash! I love him dearly and we've been together for almost 2 years now. Mike got me interested in comics. I enjoy most Vertigo titles, Bone, anything with Poison Ivy..
Hmmmm...what else.. Oh, I've been drawing since I was 4 years old. I'm pretty good at what I do and I've been thinking of picking up a career as a botanical illustrator. I always wanted to work for Disney as a background artist...that would be my dream job.
That reminds me, I'm obsessed with the Disney legacy...I'm a huge fan of old cartoons, tv shows and movies (animated and live action) from before the time Walt passed away. I have tons of little collectible figurines that I collect...mostly disney. I have a little die cast car collection, a Poison Ivy collection, and wind-up toy collection and a Maleficent collection.
Anyway...that's about all I can think of splurging right now. oh, and if anyone has any plant questions I'm more than happy to help!
MacQuarrie
05-17-2004, 12:31 AM
I'm MacQuarrie. Jim to most people, Jimmy to my mother.
My official bio, from the website I co-own, Monkey Spit! (http://www.monkeyspit.com):
On a chilly gray October morning, one year after Sputnik was launched and four months before Buddy Holly died, Jim MacQuarrie, the second son of the guy who ran the Tilt-a-Whirl at the state fair, was born. A paying job drawing cartoons for the Los Angeles Kings booster club at age 14 convinced him that this art stuff was an effective way to avoid working for a living and turned his interests away from his previous career of vandalizing vending machines.
Several years of well-deserved obscurity followed, during which he designed patches for outlaw biker gangs, sculpted little clay bunny rabbits for craft shops, twisted balloon animals at birthday parties, and appeared onstage as a killer pygmy, a dinosaur and a British housemaid. After a brief stint creating t-shirt designs for Corona Beer, he moved on to such projects as illustrating the Hooked on Phonics reading program. His experience includes 3-D modeling and computer animation, telemarketing (selling fraudulent investments), coloring comic books, website design, dressing in a chicken suit, photo retouching, and airbrush painting. He has never learned to juggle.
Jim carries a "Get Out of Jail Free" card in his wallet in case he is ever arrested. He can't whistle, but he has correctly used the word "encephaloplegia" in a sentence. Among his influences are Jack Cole, Penn & Teller, Kitty Genovese, Professor Fate, Harry Chapin, and Bill Watterson. Jim has been caller number nine and won the concert tickets. His interests include fencing, cow-tipping, duck-bowling, and archery. He has no tattoos, and his lifelong ambition is to be a curmudgeon.
Note: The kind of duck-bowling I refer to here is a game in which one throws large chunks of snow at a group of ducks huddling in the center of a frozen pond. Whoever gets the most ducks to take flight wins. I'm mean.
Additional information you might find useful: I'm married almost 19 years, have three children ages 17, 13, 8 (girl-boy-girl), and I'm the founder of the San Diego Comic-Con CBR Dinner (now the Weenie Roast) and Camp CBR. If you're coming to San Diego, we hope to see you at the Weenie Roast.

I'm Sheldon formerly posted as Asian Persuasion, but decided to go with my real name, with the new boards.
I'm Chinese Canadian, but both my parents were born in Trinidad.
I'm 26, live in Halifax Nova Scotia, do research at a psychiatric hospital, but this September am planning on returing to school. I hope to go to medical school at Dalhousie University, and am still waiting to hear back from them. If I do not get in, I have already been accepted to a joing Law/Masters of Health Administration degree.
I'm also getting married in September, so its going to be a crazy time for me.
I've posted here since Jan 2003. I mostly have posted on the X-board, and YABS, but I tend to lurk on most boards, and sometimes post here.

Apart from reading comics, I have a comic book site named WeirdSpace (http://www.weirdspace.dk) which take up a lot of time, I dance salsa and I like watching movies. I'm a really big fan of those old Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney movies.
I started coming here about a year ago. It's a nice community and I like hanging out here and meet other people who like comics.
No wife, no kids (that I know of) but I do have a girlfriend who also reads comics.
Ed Cunard
05-17-2004, 06:24 AM
I'm Ed Cunard. Currently, I live in west/central Pennsylvania with my wife and three dogs. I work for a television station group thing doing programming and promotions. I've been reading comics on and off since I was about three years old. I'm almost twenty-five now. Outside of comics, I geek on music (jazz, hip hop - really, anything but country), books of all shapes and sizes, movies, television... I'm a pop culture junkie.
For "fun," I do stuff with the web site in my signature, but there's nothing I detest more than hype, so this is the only time I'll mention it in a post (unless there's some really compelling reason).
I almost didn't reregister at CBR because I spend way too much time on-line as it is, but if I didn't, I'd still spend the time just lurking, so it just made more sense to get it out of the way.

Currently unemployed, but I've got another interview tomorrow.
Surprisingly the last time I was unemployed there was a George Bush in the white house.
Been reading comics for about 35-37 years now, that's how I learned to read.
I live in Waukegan, IL and run a comic book show out of Gurnee every few months. You should drop in when you're in the neighborhood.

Anyways I am Adam Crocker, aged 22 (will be 23 in July though). I am a graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon (or as some online friends took to calling it...Saskabush),...er...Saskatchewan currently working on his thesis which is about the Zapatistas' and Conservation International in the Maya Biosphere Reserve in the Lacandona Jungle. I am a comic fan, though my interest has ebbed somewhat, which has only been furthered through an all consuming love of music. (Nearly all kinds!) I am trying to get back into the habit of reading obsessively since school made that impossible this year. I'd also like to get back into drawing, which has REALLY slid. I am currently teaching myself to play guitar and within due time, harmonica. Besides the interests I have currently listed I am also a political junkie and have an ability to retain some of most useless information possible. I came here several months ago via the Permanent Damage board and looking for a new place to post at since one of the places I was posting was looking well...tiring. I also administrate my own E-Z board (http://p201.ezboard.com/bpictography) which was set up by someone else as a possible board for their online comics zine until the project was sunk by pure laziness. It's small, but it's friendly and comfortable. When not involved in all this, I can be found here posting about various topics or locked in mortal combat with my nemesis Alex. Filthy...Radio lovin', Joy Division hatin' lunger.
And in defiance of current trends I have eschewed my real name for one of the most bizarre, silliest alias possible. I'm a rebel baby! http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/pimp.gif
Lone Ranger
05-17-2004, 07:16 AM
Hi everyone.
I used to be kidflash - but thought I would make a change now while others seem to be doing it. I love the Lone Ranger, and am excited about all of the possible avatars.
My name is Scott. I am 31 year old born and still living in Toronto.
I am married to a lovely woman named Kathleen (aka Kat), and we have a nice little life carved out for ourselves. No kids yet - but certainly in the not too distant future.
I am a lawyer by trade - used to work at a big evil law firm, but now I work as in house legal counsel for a well respected pension fund management firm. A much better fit for me.
My education background is a B.A in History and Political Science from McGill University in Montreal, and I received my LLB as well as a Master's of Public Administration from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
My wife did the same Master's and that is how and where we met, even though she too is from Toronto
I love, love, love comic books. The older the better as far as I am concerned - and I spend a good portion of my CBR time over at Classics as well as the Oddball board.
I also love to travel and have been through much of Europe, Africa and India and have many great adventures planned for the future.
I also love movies, TV, books, sports, drinking, laughing, jogging, skiing and all sorts of tomfoolery.
Hmmmm - that's about it for now.

Hi. I'm the poster formerly known as Typo Lad. Those who have read my typing know why. I'm a Tech Support Monkey for a large college in New York. There are also branches in San Francisco, Moscow and Israel. We actually have to support the SF and Israel branches at times. I'm a Mac user at home, and obsessed with gadgets of all kind. I've owned over ten handheld computers at this point.
I'm an Orthodox Jew, married to an amazing woman. My daughter, Typo Tot, is one of the most important things in my life. She is also a source of constant amusment.
I'm also a freelance writer. You can see my work at www.luchins.com. You can also see one of my stories in one of the best anthologies to come down the pike in a long tim, Prophecy(www.prophecymag.com). I recently inked a deal to provide scripts for a miniseries to be coming out via Image. I should be reading those plots instead of posting this.

Call me Ishmael.
Well, somebody had to post that.
I'm Zhaki, or Zak. I was Patient Boy before the boards switched over, and I'm Patient Boy now. Although I did post infrequently on the boards before the previous switch over under a name I can't really remember.
21 years old, Malay-Muslim kid born and raised in Singapore. I've read comics since I was able to read. Currently I'm collecting Daredevil, Y the Last Man, Runaways, Wonder Woman, Transformers and probably some other stuff I can't think of right now... Mostly I'll be hanging out on CBR either here or on the music boards... It's a bit frustrating to have my post count so dramatically reduced, but it is nice to start afresh.....
Holy crap Hoss, what happened to John McCain?
Jeez... Am i the onli one on the east side of the world?
Anyway, Im frank, nineteen this year.

ArchivalGrading here, but call me "Ray"....

Likes: long walks on the beach, pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, pithy introductions ...
Dislikes: conceited people, slabbing comics, George W. Bush, Roger Clemens, my wife ....
Glad to be part of a new reincarnation, thanks, Jonah.....

I'm Mandy. I'm a small blonde girl who likes long walks, C-SPAN and thick comic books....
Heh. That's only partially a joke.
Actually, I'm 23 and I just finished my Master's at Kent State about a week ago (so, if you know anyone looking to hire in the journalism field, hook me up). I've been on CBR for about a year now, starting out at the X-Board (can I get a 'hell yeah'?) and moving to the Comm board with the now very gone Charlie's exodus (ask your elders, they'll tell you wistful stories).
I've been absent from the boards for awhile due to my thesis, but now I'm back and ready for action.
Shem the Penman
05-17-2004, 09:15 AM
I'm still Shem the Penman. In the real world I'm Christopher. 34. Married. Owner of two dwarf rabbits who chew on things they're not supposed to. I live in the Philadelphia suburbs, but I've only been here a few months -- before this, I lived in Queens for seven years.
I'm deaf and have been since age 5.
I'm a librarian and archivist, but currently out of work. To support myself, I write and do freelance copy editing and indexing -- I was a copy editor at Random House for many years before I got started on the librarian thing.
I accumulate comics and books, like paper-and-pencil RPGs, am a fan of pro wrestling, and have a brown belt in karate (though I'm way out of practice). My politics are left-wing and my football team is the Eagles.
And that's about it.
I'm Puma, occasionally known as Laura. Started out on the XBoard, now I spend time there and in Rita's - redecorating & occassionally making crab omelettes. Originally from Washington State, now live in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California. I work as a librarian and am currently in grad school for my MLIS. Married with two kittens (Fergus aka Tig and Rupert aka Ripper) and a dog, Tischia.

Hi. My name's Michael. I'm a currently unemployed college grad (God Bless America!) in Houston, Texas (not for long, if there's a God). I post here, on the Marvel Boards, the Rumbles Board, YABS, TV-Film, and occasionally books. I'm primarily a comics person, but I know a good deal about Star Wars, Star Trek, Buffy, and the Hardy Boys. As well as several other things.
Oh yeah. Don't be acting up around me, or I might snitch on ya. ;)

Hi, im Jason, I used to read comics until I was 15 and then stopped until 28 years old, when a friend forced Preacher on me, quickly followed by Transmetropoitan, and now at 30 I am totally hooked again, but fortunately making a lot more money than when I was 13 so I get to buy everything I never could.
I have a very obsessive personality, especially when it comes to media, I have to hear every song, watch every movie, and now thanks to coming here and reading I buy every issue coming out.
I support servers for a financial data company, and as of last year I live in St Louis. I am so much more of a big city person and my plans involve moving to NYC or London in the next 2 years.

I am currently reading the Foundation Triology by Isaac Asimov and Essential Tomb of Dracual. Both for the first time. Isn't that cool?
No it is NOT cool.
You should have read both a long, long time ago.
Oh and, avoid the crappy, Estate Licenced sequels. They suck on TOAST.

Hi!
My name is Mark Baronner and I go by SteelTownr. The reason I skipped that last "e" in SteelTownr is because back in 1997, AOL only allowed ten letters in their Screen Names.
I am a Pittsburgher living in the beautiful state of Florida with my Beautiful Wife Lori and our Dog, Puppy, a Dachshund.
I just recently graduated college. I was on the 17 year accelerated program. Not a lot of people could handle the pace, but I am special.
I really love the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
My Favorite Comic Book Guy is the Hulk. No one else even comes close to the Green Guy in my book.

Howdy!
I'm Sean Hutchinson. In an attempt to make myself seem cooler than I am, I've been trying to get people to call me Hutch, but it doesn't seem to be taking rather well.
I'm a 20 year old college student, studying chemical engineering at Drexel University. I'm currently living in Philly, but that changes like every 6 months when I go on co-op. My career goal in life is to get into the pharmaceutical industry, preferably research and development. Failing that, I figure I can always ply my trade as a street pharmacist.
There are two things about me that are most important. One, I'm awesome. Two, I am the creator of the greatest comic ever, Hutch University. I am a shameless, self-promoting huckster, and try to make reference to my comic whenever I can. It has been said by people that Hutch University is the funniest thing ever. Judge for yourself. Just be forewarned though, most of the characters like to use naughty language.
I follow mostly Marvel comics, a few DC and Image titles, and CrossGen. I am a hardcore video game fiend, with my areas of expertise lying in RPGs and platformers.

05-17-2004, 01:10 PM
Geez...
Ok, first time again then?
MissKale, its a reference to a one-off Liberty Meadows comic.
My real name is Heather, but at the same time, yeah, I still prefer posting under something that isn't my real name. For one thing it keeps my parents from searching for my name online (yes something they do) and finding out every single thing I do online.
But I'm 23 (gosh that seems old anymore), 5'8", and I've been posting since early 2000, though I was chatting since late 1999. I was referred here by a poster who used to come here under the name of juzda, but since he's no longer a member I can't exactly reference him.
Though I am engaged to another member some might remember, Sigerson. For a while we posted as SigerKale Inc. Then that became more Sigerson's moniker after I started getting upset that people thought we were the same person, leading to several flamewars/arguments (yes I've forgiven the other people involved, and I hope they've forgiven me as well). I don't think that Sigerson will re-register, or it will be much later if he does. But he had pretty much given up the Comm board after the aforementioned flamewars/arguments since he really (no actually) doesn't like arguing to be as unpleasant and nasty as it progressed to.
A brief biography of Sigerson for any who don't know him... He's 27, 6'7" and working at becoming a writer.
Right now I'm looking forward (or dreading, depending on the day) my graduation from the University of Toronto (Specialist Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence) which is coming up on the 16th of June. Before that I will be going on a trip to Sigerson's cottage and then I'll be going on a trip to England. Which I am very excited about since I have never ventured outside of North America. In terms of the work that I'm looking for I'm pretty much looking for anything, in both Canada and the United States.
For hobbies, I like drawing (though I'm severly out of practice), playing video games, reading, and writing poetry. I'm immensely glad that I hadn't posted the recent sketch when I had thought to, otherwise it would have disappeared in the ether and would have gotten no responses/critiques at all.

Hello (again)!
I'm Benoit Leblanc from Canada, a biology professor by trade. I am currently sporting a huge cast on my right arm as the result of trying to break a block of concrete with my bare hand. And no, I wasn't even drunk.
I toyed with the idea of switching to my real name for good, but I sort of like the silliness of codenames. I must have read comics as a kid or something!
Cheers,

My name is Rob Rosenblatt, and I'm a 26-year-old research writer living near Nashville, TN. I've been married to a wonderful woman for the last two years (exactly tomorrow!!), and we've been together for the past eight years. We're horribly excited because our first child, Parker Cole, will be born in about four months.
I'm currently working on a novel and a comic book...and by currently, I mean about once or twice a year I'll get the urge to write something non-work related so I'll tinker around with these things. I've got about 40 pages of the book done, and I've got a few issues of the comic plotted and scripted. I have no idea what I'd do with either if I finished them. I've also got a couple short stories and a bunch of poems on my computer at home.
Comics I get regularly: Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil, Runaways, Ultimate Spider-Man, Flash, JSA, Teen Titans, Stormwatch: Team Achilles, Fables, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, Marvel Knights: Spider-Man, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Supreme Power, Arrowsmith, Ultimates, Planetary
Stuff I'm picking up on a whim: Superman, Robin, Ultimate X-Men
Favorite comic artists: Carlos Pacheco, Alex Ross, Mark Bagley, Jim Lee
Favorite writers: Geoff Johsn, Brian Micael Bendis, Warren Ellis, Stephen King
Favorite musical groups/singers: Harry Connick, Jr., Foo Fighters, Self, Fluid Ounces, The Features, Weezer, Ben Folds Five, Ok Go, Seven Mary Three, Better Than Ezra
Current # of comics I own: +/- 5,500
That's probably more than anyone wanted to know about me.
Rob R.
Um, I used to be Linx, the one with the Death avatar. Now I'm going back to my CGMB handle.
Other stuff, I'm Valmore's fiance, and I'm a NP and uni teacher.

Slick
05-17-2004, 02:38 PM
Hi, my name isn't Slick, but that's what everyone here calls me, so I stopped fighting it. My real name is Jeff Hamilton, I'm 28 (and a half!), and I live in Houston, Texas. I'm a Professional Writing graduate who is dismayed by the fact that I don't want any sort of job that involves writing, but don't know exactly what I do want beyond that I want to go back to school, soon. This is dependent on the new job that I plan on getting as soon as I get motivated enough to leave my current job.
I like weird sentence structures!
I got into comics because I used to play D&D in the back room of a comic shop, and comics quickly became the dominant interest. I don't have much time for either comics or role-playing games anymore, but I haven't abandoned them completely.
I've surprised myself by developing some really good and unlikely friendships here on CBR, and I wish I could come here every single day to visit with them, but I can't.
I can, however, show you a picture of a tarsier!

HELLO!!!! :D
Charles
05-17-2004, 04:22 PM
My name is Charles, and I'm a 25 year old librarian working in Miami, FL. Aside from about two years when I was in grad school and the like, I've lived here all my life.
I used to post under the handle CaptainBriton, and though my love of the good Captain remains, I've grown tired of it and just registered with my own name. I mainly frequent the Music boards, but I hope to stick around here more often in the future.
My two massive obsessions are collecting comics and music. I'm amassing quite a big tpb collection, and don't generally buy too many monthlies. I also used to do terrible things to my budget buying used CD's while in grad school, but Miami, unfortunately, doesn't seem to have any good record stores (shocking, I know). I also read voraciously, and will probably start writing again once my life gets less hectic.
Aside from all that hobby type info, I'm getting married in Feb to my lovely girlfriend Lisa, who I've been with for 5 wonderful years. Can't wait.
That's all I can think of for now. Hope to see you all around.

My name is Roger and I'm a criminal defense attorney from Tampa, FL. I'm married to a wonderful woman/physician/mother of my two children. I have a four year old son and a six month old daughter. I'm a practicing Roman Catholic who is often critical of the church. This doesn't mean I won't kick Deathstroke's ass when he bad mouths it, however. :D (I am also self-loathing for my emoticon habit that I can't kick.)
I consider myself to be a liberal republican and am more interested in who people like in the way of comedy than I am in who they like in politics. I'm a big fan of the Vertigo books but to be honest, haven't picked up any new comics in several months.
Oh and by the way, the name is pronounced Bold-dee-dough, don't add the extra "L", I know its tempting.

Rob Imes
05-17-2004, 08:52 PM
I'm 33 and mainly a fan of older comicbooks, although I do buy some new ones each month. I've been posting at CBR since early 1997. The boards I usually visit (usually once a day or more) are this one (Community), Classic Comics, and Music.
I've been reading and collecting comics since the late 1970s. It was around 1983 that I first began to try comics other than superheroes, and so I started buying titles by Archie/Red Circle, Charlton, etc. as well as old reprint titles like Marvel's Weird Wonder Tales. If you want to know what kind of comic I like best, check out THE FLY #5-8 (Archie, 1984) or THE BLACK HOOD #2 (Red Circle, 1983).
Around the same time, I learned about old-time radio (OTR) programs like The Shadow and Suspense. From 1992 to 1996, I published a fanzine called Tune In devoted to the topic. I've long thought about trying to put out another issue, but have never quite managed to do so. My enthusiasm for OTR waned in 1997, just as my interest in new comics (which I'd largely stopped buying in 1989) was reborn thanks to the internet and a local comics shop which heavily promoted the concept of pull lists and advance-orders through the Previews catalog. (I've been ordering out of Previews each and every month since April 1997.) Last year, my interest in OTR was reawakened a bit due to learning about shows being stored on CDs in MP3 format, so that one could buy many hours worth of programming for only a few bucks. I occasionally buy such CDs on eBay from dealers like rdalexander (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=rdalexander&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50) and otr_radio (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=otr_radio&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50).
My all-time favorite TV show is the original B&W Twilight Zone. My favorite episode is probably "Walking Distance." I'm a fan of the old spooky radio shows, and the old spooky comics, so TZ is like a TV version of them for me.
My 2nd all-time favorite TV series is Doctor Who. My favorite Who stories are: "Spearhead from Space," "Terror of the Autons," "Robot," "Genesis of the Daleks," "The Seeds of Doom," and "Kinda."
The only current TV drama that I follow is CBC's This Is Wonderland starring Cara Pifko. I live close enough to Canada that I have grown up with a little exposure to Canadian TV and radio. I have always appreciated that different perspective being there on the dial.
These days when I watch TV, I tend to watch political talking-head shows like Hardball on MSNBC or The McLaughlin Group on PBS. I also like to read books about the history of the American Presidents. I think that I have all of Theodore White's "Making of the President" books, for example. The political websites that I visit the most often include Andrew Sullivan (http://www.andrewsullivan.com)'s blog, Townhall (http://www.townhall.com/columnists)'s columnists and WorldNetDaily (http://www.worldnetdaily.com).
My favorite movies are Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. I'm also interested in the old-time movie stars like Marlene Dietrich, and silent stars like Louise Brooks and Lillian Gish. TCM is one of my favorite TV channels.
My favorite prose writers tend to be old short story writers such as O. Henry and Edgar Allan Poe. My favorite comics creators are Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. My favorite DC character is Superman (including Superboy).
My favorite Marvel character is Captain America. (I have more issues of Cap than probably any other series, although I haven't bought it since the renumbering, nor the new Cap & Falc series. I'm particular about the art in comics. To me, Dan Jurgens & Bob Layton did the best Cap art since Mike Zeck in the 1980s, so when Marvel let them go to renumber Cap and go in a different direction, they let me go as a reader as well.)
My all-time favorite band is The Beatles. My favorite albums are: The White Album, Revolver, and Magical Mystery Tour in that order. My favorite Beatles songs are "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "I am the Walrus" (tied for #1), "Penny Lane," "Eleanor Rigby," "Helter Skelter," and "Revolution 9" (I love it because it's so weird and different).
Bob Dylan is probably my all-time favorite solo artist. I love 1960s music; I love how it changed and grew from one end of the decade to the other, and how quickly the changes came (in comics, too -- from Dick Sprang's Batman to Neal Adams'). Last year, I got heavily interested in Simon & Garfunkel's 1960s output, when I bought a boxed set of all their albums. Last month, I bought The Who Sell Out from 1967 and have been enjoying its typical 1960s quirkiness and innovations. I love music that's catchy and quirky like that.
My favorite current style of music is contemporary Christian music (CCM) which I've promoted (and defended) many times on the boards in the interests of trying to share this neglected genre. My favorite CCM artists include Miss Angie, Kevin Max, Newsboys, and Rebecca St James. My favorite album of last year was Audio Adrenaline's Worldwide. The only other website that I check more often than CBR is CMCentral (http://www.cmcentral.com).
I'm a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination, whose official website can be found here (http://www.pcusa.org). I became a Christian in August 1999, thanks in part to encountering articulate Christians on this very board (several format changes ago).
I'm a Democrat who voted for Howard Dean in the primary this year; originally I supported Gephardt but he dropped out before I could vote for him. In 2000, I voted for Al Gore. In 1992, the first year that I could vote, I voted for Bill Clinton. (I registered too late to vote in 1996 but would have voted for Clinton again.) I'm not sure who I will vote for in this election. Kerry doesn't excite me in the least, although he may help do so if he selects John Edwards or Gephardt for his VP. I have vaguely contemplated writing in Dean's name on the ballot in November.
Regarding political positions: I think abortion should remain legal; I favor affirmative action, animal rights, gun control, which are "liberal" positions. However, I'm personally "conservative" in my lifestyle: don't drink, smoke, swear, etc.
Well, that's my list of likes and so forth. Hope you weren't too bored.
P.S.: I previously posted here under the handle "Rimes."

Hi!
My name is Emily, I'm 23, Canadian, biochem/psych undergrad, and hopefully future doctor (medcine or research). I originally wanted to be a dancer (ballet), then a game developer, then a screenwriter, then an engineer, but I didn't get too far in those career fields (for various reasons - but I know a lot in each field). I've always done art, and felt that art would be something to do on the side. I would love to do a comic, but can never find the time.
I've posted here for a year now, but infrequently due to my schedule. I have fibromyalgia (chronic pain and fatigue), ADD and various other health problems, but I won't let them rule my life - there is nothing worse then doing nothing when you want to do something. Because of that I'm taking a little longer to get through university then I'd like (other then switching majors).
my intrests - dancing, art, water and individual sports, cooking, comics, neurology, computers, electronics, reading, movies, and some other stuff.
I have no idea why I like comics, no one else I know likes them. I just like them.

Hi!
My name is Emily,
How do you pronounce your posting handle?

How do you pronounce your posting handle?
never thought about that... I've used that handle for everything since 1993 (or a different one in certain circles, but that is another story), thought I'd stay consistant. I usually think of it phonetically as F-ah-E or F-A

Good to see so many posting here. Hell, I'm learning stuff, and I already was familiar with most of y'all.
Hi. I'm the poster formerly known as perfection. I decided that my former handle may have come off as a bit presumptuous, so I decided to be a god instead.
My real name's Jon, and I'm a seventeen year old high school student from Durham/Rockingham, NC. My hobbies include reading (a recent post-modernism obsession), music (semi-large music geek), video games, RPGs, all the other usual geek stuff, and acting out in random/strange ways. Oh, and other demographics include 1) black, 2) ghey, and 3) atheist.
I was going to say something else, but it's escaped me.

About me...
I'm a 30 year old single man with an overactive imagination and a mostly progressive worldview.
In addition to comics,I'm also interested in pro wrestling, heavy metal music, politics, weightlifting, and the unexplained.
I have a Maine Coon cat named Mischa.
That's about it.
I think it sucks that we have to start over again too.

My name is fly on the wall.
Some say I'm funny, and humor is to message boards what physical strength is to comic book slug fests. So after a lifetime of being a put-upon wimpy nerd I find myself transformed into the dominant poster. Of course that transformation makes it impossible for me to ever leave here for long; how can I resist being the BMOC after a lifetime of taking crap from everyone?
In real life I am a meek, mild mentally-ill lab tech that has to gulp handfuls of pills every day so I don't become psychotic. The pills make me forget all kinds of stuff like where I am sometimes and where I left my keys. One time I forgot how to talk but then I remembered later.
Okay I admit it. I've never been good at keeping track of my keys.
My job is unusual. Sometimes I perform abortions on rats. Sometimes I make pigs scuba-dive and try to melt their brains with sonar. For a long time I designed and made lingerie for pigs but that duty was stolen from me in a bitter inner-office political dispute that has left me bitter. Mostly these days I blast rats for a living, that is I simulate the shock pulse an exploding shell delivers to your innards, on rats.
Don't worry they don't feel any pain. The rats are on even more medication than I am.
My wife hates my guts. We've been married 28 years. She's been pissed off at me ever since I accidentally chopped her fingers off. It was an accident, you got to believe me. She was trying to make me chase a roach late at night and I didn't want to. So I slammed a door really hard and her fingers came off. Oh it was a simply dreadful evening. Everyone kept looking at me for months like I'd gone after her with a carving knife, did you ever see such a sight in your life as a chopped up wife?
Any she hates my guts and screams at me all the time. She's loud so I call her Deci-Belle and in my mind she could out shout Black Bolt and Janis Joplin singing harmony.
To get revenge on me my wife brought home over 200 cats and kittens in the last two years and they have ruined our home. Luckily most found homes.
That's about it. There's actually plenty more I could tell you about myself but I don't tell people the really bad stuff. I do have a modicum of shame.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Don't believe the stuff Dox tells you about me.
I'm Jose. 28, Amateur martial artist, writer and chef by occupation, but writing software keeps food on my table. I have yet to win a tournament in the US as I have fouled out of 2 (out of 2) so far.
I used to work for the UNDP as an information systems consultant until they found out that I lied about my age.
Good fortune has afforded me the chance to live and work in four continents. I have yet to go to a place that did not make me realise that all people are the same.
I graduated with a double degree in Economics and Applied Mathematics and worked in that field for nonprofits until the sheer Sisyphean nature of it all made me change careers. I now realise the alienating nature of working for a company and am working up the courage to leave this cushy job and do something else.
I'm for a 'zero crime bill' that legalises drugs, prostitution and victimless crimes while making it illegal for nonproductive people to generate wealth (via property ownership). I am anti-big government in the sense that I don't think that it scales, but is necessary for certain monopsonistic aspects of society. I also think that some of Rob Liefeld's art is criminal.
I love comics and -- although saddened by the dip in quality of the big 2 -- am heartened by the upsurge of good indie stuff like The Changers. I am one of the few people who know that the Shroud is Maximillan Quincy Coleridge.
CBR is good stuff and I like participating in threads that give props to posters -- like the COTM, as it gives me a chance to show appreciation for the fine folks out here. I had my first 'argument' with RickD over moral relativity and that was probably the most civil ontological discussion I've ever been a part of. After hearing Punchy play and talk about music, I've decided to take up an instrument. T'omm has improved both my poundage and endurance at the gym and Typo Lad has taught me (indirectly) about keeping your cool. I'd list out all the people who've made me look at things in another way, but this post is long enough.
You lot rule.

Brad Curran
05-18-2004, 11:53 AM
I'm Brad Curran, 21 years old, and I've lived in Harlingen, Texas my whole life. Right now, I'm an English Major and History Minor at the University of Texas Pan-American. I work part time painting for my dad.
I've been a CBR member since 2001, when I went by the X-Board to talk about New X-Men (which got me back in to comics after a 7 year hiatus) and have been here since. I used to go by the name Free Lance, and became Free Lance 2.0 during the last board change over. I was considering becoming FL 3.0, but the desire to go by my real name won out. That, and it probably would have been a Free Lance too far. I've been a mod here since 2002, when I became co-mod of the Spider-Man board. I also share duties with Rawiri on the Marvel Universe Board. Or at least I will when Jonah re-instates me. (Right, Jonah?)
My interests include comics, of which I have more than is likely healthy. I mainly read trades, of which I have about 200, although I read the occasional series in single issues like I'm doing with Plastic Man and BPRD now. I'm a big fan of anything Alan Moore, Garth Ennis, Frank Miller, Mike Mignola, and Grant Morrison do, and I also like Warren Ellis, Peter Milligan, and Bendis most of the time. Spider-Man's my favorite character, which helped with the mod gig, but I only read Ultimate Spider-Man in hardcover at this point, although I plan on getting caught up on JMS' run and the Lee/Romita era in trades soon. I love superheroes, but I'm trying to read a variety of stuff.
I'm also a nut for the Simpsons, pro wrestling, Adult Swim, and Joss Whedon's TV work. I try to read the occasional novel, but I'm horrible about finishing prose. I still have two Neil Gaiman novels to finish, not to mention the Hitchhiker's Guide. I also like to write, although the inspiration comes and goes. I have done a handful of collaborative stories on this board with my bi-polar hero/posting pal fly, only one of which has ever had an ending while I've been around. I'd like to be a comics writer and maybe a novelist at some point, but I'm going to get a steady gig as a teacher first. And I think this is long enough, don't you?

Mysterio

Alright, I'm a little late to the party but here goes...
I was Mysterio, I still am Mysterio or you can call me by my given name- Eldin. I'm a 30 year old self-employed graphic designer/part time design instructor. I currently reside in Albuquerque NEW Mexico (yes, we are in the United States) although that could change in the near future.
I'm a Marvel Zombie, love the Mets and spend a lot of my free time pulling my daughter around in her wagon. She LOVES her red wagon.
And that's that! :D

Well balls, I'm really late to the party, but I got hammered 'fore I came so itssss cool.
I'm Austin, formerly warpedwonder. I live in Brooklyn. I'm an art school drop out who's trying to vex my former peers and teachers by becoming *snicker snicker* a sucessful illustrator. I'd would have happened already if I didn't have to spend all my time at horrible job after horrible job just to pay my rent.
I was born in Louisiana, lived in Colorado for 8 years, Philly for a year, and have been in New York for the past three. Comics are awesome and I have zero friends that I haven't met on this board who are interested in them. But, what do I care?
I try not to miss a CBR social event (almost an oxymoron, eh? comic book message boarders being social.) and if there's booze there, all the merrier. Tom the Mod and I had a short lived fling, but we've both grown into better people since then, although we're still close.
I think that's about it. Oh yeah, Joe Rice sucks!
Ha! I'm oh so whitty! (and pretty!)

Well, I used to be GrimSpectre, but realized I was using the handle for way too many applications. A full history would take more pages than Charlie Manson's rap sheet, but I live in Illinois right now and have a job that makes it almost impossible to drink. Not that I don't try whenever I can.

I am Rick Olney, founder and director of Organized Readers of Comics Associated(ORCA) www.orcafresh.net and host, promoter, and owner of the Mighty Mini-Con each first weekend in June and The Spooky each third weekend in October in Syracuse, New York. www.thespookyny.com
I'm married for 29 years to the same woman, have five children (27m,25m,22f,18m,13m) with the two oldest being married making me a grampa twice (4m,3f).
I'm a 6yr Vet of the USMC with an honorable discharge. I also served a year in the National Guard. I'm an NRA member. So I like to hunt, fish, and hike in the outdoors and up in the Adirondack Mountains.
I read and collect ALL KINDS of comic books, having a collection that is 46years old with many multiple issues bought during the Silver Age and to present. I also have around 400 golden age books. My Marvel comics collection is complete except 14 issues, 9 of them tougher to find and afford these days. My entire collection numbers over 100 longboxes and 60-some-odd short boxes.
ORCA's give aways have been boosted over the years from infusions from my personal collection. Along with the generosity of gifted donations by retailers and fans alike beliving in ORCA's efforts to influence change. Don't think so? Look around!
During my 11 years at the helm of ORCA, I've guided the giving away of over 700, 000 free comic books to schools, libraries, and to the general public starting as far back as 1994. I am the concept originator of the "Comics in the Classroom" educational effort that CrossGen parlayed into their BRIDGES program. I am also the namesake for the "Ric Olie" Star Wars: Episode One starship pilot responsible for giving young Anakin Skywalker (the Future Darth Vader) his first starship flying lesson. It was an honor I shall never forget.
I host two conventions each year via my small entertainment company, TightLip Entertainment. The Mighty Mini-Con is held every first weekend in June in upstate New York. And I have a horror convention during the third weekend in October. Again, both cons are held in Syracuse, New York.
