Here's some info about Black Canary's Mini (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=108679).
How awesome is it that my two favorite girls are both front page news today?:)

Those will have to be some tough kidnappers because I assumed that, since she was being trained as a Shiva, that Sin was a tiny badass.

We say the same about you,SillyNurseKitty. :p
Were you trained by Shiva too?

For some reason Tony Bedard seems to be one of those writers whose work I always enjoy more in concept than in execution. But I did like the six issues of Rogue he got to write before they cancelled the book. Since he did a good job writing my favorite Marvel character on that book, hopefully he'll do a good job writing my favorite DC character on this one.

IMHO some of Bedard's best work was with Crossgen's Negation. It was an awesome series -- kind of like The Dirty Dozen out in space. The characters were interesting and compelling and Bedard was always keeping readers on their toes -- you never knew who might die and often, people you thought for sure had targets painted on them, ended up surviving.
Its such a shame the ending was rushed to push it into Negation War and then the Negation War never finished.

Sorry, this sounds pointless. BoP has suffered in Dinah's absence, she could've remained in the book and resolved the storyline there. I can't pretend to have any enthusiasm for this at all.

I am glad they are dealing the Sin,but i do feel that it is just because Meltzer(sp?) could not be bothered with it in his stories, but he HAD to have Black Canary. Bedard is a good writer, but i do feel this series will be just filler.
I do have one complaint: Black Canary riding a motorcycle with sin,and BOTH with NO helmets? Great parenting.

I don't mind the BC/GA pairing when done well, it just often seems that writers focus more on GA in BC's solo outings than the other way around.

I am a little confused as to why Dinah has to choose (at least from the blurb) between Ollie and Sin. It's not like Ollie doesn't have other kids hanging about that he has to watch---Sin would fit right in with her big brothers and big sister.
Still, this could be good.

My biggest gripe is that Gail isn't writing this.
I haven't read GA in many years. I recall the time when GA and BC were together back in the 70s and adventuring with GL.
While I enjoyed her character she was too often lost in the background. I agree with those who do not wish to return to those days...

just gotta say...love yer avatar.....the way things should be

It seemed the right time to use the avatar. Though, like shrike, I am a bit concerned about the whole BC/GA revamp. Depends on the writer.
I think Babs makes a party partner. But if someone could actually do a *good* comic about a superhero couple and their family, that would be awesome.
Maybe we should go find Brad Bird, since he did such a fine job with the concept in "The Incredibles."

Makes two of us. I'll probably give it a whirl.
One thing does bug me -

That is some freaky bad art. Detail good - pose horrific.
.....
Actually, 'horrific' doesn't cover it. Probably closer to 'laughable'. I hope the artist won't be drawing her that way all through the mag. Or...at all.

I actually saw the post on that item where someone dared any woman to strike and hold that pose for over 30 seconds this morning. Made me laugh.

If Sin has had any Shiva/Mother training at all, those kidnappers would have found their eyes gouged out and the story over in the first five pages.

And of course her Shiva training would include being able to ride motorcycles without helmets and not being pulled over by the first police officer.
As for the pose, maybe she is doing advance yoga.

I should say that I'm cautiously optimistic about the storyline.
I'm inclined to not buy it because:
A. Gail's not writing it. That would be out of protest.
B. I may not enjoy the writing.
C. I may not enjoy the art.
D. I may want to buy something else even more.
And I'm inclined to buy it as I'm curious about the story.

When I think of that BC pose, I think someone's trying to poke her in the behind.
As stated earlier, the pose is much of the problem.

A)Gail would be the FIRST person to recommend the book to you to read. She has ALWAYS encouraged other writers to use her toys in the way she uses characters others have written.
B) & C) This is personal preference. Dinah will always have SOME cheesecake to her(um..hello..FISHNETS!),but i do find it encouraging i have enjoyed some of the Bedards writing and the art seems enjoyable. And i LIKE cheesecake. Preferably strawberry.
D) There will ALWAYS be other things to buy. Do you want to buy this is the choice for you.
I am hopeful too. The fact they are NOT ignoring Sin is a GOOD step, one Mr. Meltzer should of paid attention to.

I suppose fishnets are a turn on for some. I'm ok with them. They don't turn me on.
But the near thong is a turn off. Cover her butt.
There's a worldwide shortage of porn and DC clearly is trying to help alleviate it...

Besides which... Gail knows where he lives.

Tony is very good. He was around during Valiant's heyday and did great stuff back then. He's very good and Black Canary is honestly in good hands.
P.S. And if not, look at the positive: At least it's not Shatner's singing voice you are hearing.

Yikes. I agree. Way too much "stick my butt out", to a degree that is actually physically impossible, without losing one's balance, and "stick the chest out", to the degree that it looks like someone is making a grab for a boob (yes, I realize it is supposed to be Sin, but come on.... yuck).
Like the hair and the expression though. Still... doesn't excuse the rest of the pose.

Um...to be honest,i have NEVER,ever, thought of superheroes as porn. Seriously. I always saw them as HEROES. It wasn't till my later teens that i could see how some people would take sexual innuendo from certain characters, including female heroes and villans, but by then the innocent image of super heroes had been fully implanted in my brain. I can read about superheroes in sexual situations, but i never considered it a "turn on". I much prefer real life for that.
As for the the fishnets,i will admit,on a REAL woman, they are a turn on. On a character in a comic, they make a good costume(her and Zee come to mind).
The thong NEVER even occurred to me until you said it. Dosn't bother me a bit. You should of seen Cloud, from the old New Defenders book from the late 80s. She wore NOTHING,and had little vapor trails covering her breasts and hips. BARELY. Plus she could turn into a guy,and then she lost the upper vapor trails,of course. Turns out She/he was a alien cosmic cloud,a bunch of stardust. Or something like that.
Compared to that,Dinah's thong is prude-like. Besides,i like the thought of men staring at her rather than fighting her. It IS distracting.

There's a difference between a character who always wore a thong and one where a costume change has been made.
I will continue to maintain that BC would never willingly go out and fight evil wearing the thong.
And I'm sorry that you didn't get the memo but nearly all male supervillains are gay which totally defeats your argument :)
No we understand that it's really an attempt to turn on the readers. Which is a veiled way of saying that a woman can't be successful unless she turns you on.

Well I do have to confess that I've bought the Shatner albums and really when one thinks about it, BC should have a lovely singing voice.

It would be different if Gail's schedule weren't overbooked and she had TIME to write it. Or if she were screaming "LET ME WRITE IT! DAMMIT I'M GONNA WRITE THIS!" like a caged woman shaking the bars.
Since she and Tony co-wrote the Canary backup story in #100, I saw that as a "passing of the torch" to him to write this miniseries.

Yup. That jumped out at me too. Also, the second image does look rather.. odd.
The way it's described, it sounds like they're gonna kill off Sin to clear the path for Dinah to make her big turnaround on joining the JLA. Of course, it couild be worded that way on purpose to throw peons like myself off the scent, but still, something to consider.

Tony Bedard did a great job on the back-up in #100. I thought it was very moving, and just done well.
The art looks beautiful. I can't wait.
