According to The Anime News Network, FUNImation is taking over the dubbing of One Piece starting with episode #144. :D :D :D I hope that also means they will be able to redub and re-edit the first 143 including the ones 4Kids skipped over.

Well, that's a relief. I now dub Funimation an official Godsend among anime fans. Now, if only they could get their hands on Sonic X, Magical Doremi and Shaman King.

 Oh really Funimation the same company responsible for licensing masterpieces such as Full Metal Panic:TSR, and Alchemist plus giving the community uncut dvds of things 4kids butchered. *sighs* And some people wonder why I even bother speaking to people with little to no brains on licensing.

Gotcha, no sense trying to talk some sense into a guy who buys bootlegs, and doesn't get the legitimate versions of the dvds.

I buy bootlegs all the time, admittedly they are of good quality.
And besides, ADV has got one of the most shit dubbings in their anime
that I have ever seen. They range from mind-numbingly bad to "tolerable".
And since I mostly watch shows with japanse dialogue anyway, may as
well grab the bootlegs.
I'm glad that Funimation is getting One Piece, because we'll :
-Get the uncensored stuff
-Actually get the whole series and no cut-out/skipped episodes that
4 Kids did.
-Get better dubbing overall, although Funimation isn't *THAT* good.

Last word before I leave this topic alone: FYI, Funimation DVDs cost 20 bucks at the most. And they've made up for they did for DBZ by making new uncut DVDs for it. Since then, they have done a commendable job with the anime they've licensed. Their voice actors are excellent, their translations are above average, and most importantly, they respect the material(Unlike those 4 Kids bastards). As a whole, they've grown as a company and have been look upon favorably by anime fans for their contribution.
And let's get it straight: those dvds you purchase are pirated and not produced by the original distributers. Any japanese anime imports with subtitles (since the japanese watch their anime RAW), and unlicensed is an illegal copy created without the consent of the company or creators. No ifs, ands or buts. If that's what you chose to buy with your money, then fine, but please, let's not sugarcoat or BS.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!
Finally I can get me uncut One Piece DVDs! Plus we get a new dub!!!! Pinch me I'm dreaming!
Ha. I was crashing on a friend's couch. It was like sometime in the morning. I hear him running up the stairs yelling in joy. He tells me to wake up. He has to tell me something. Funimation liscenced something. I groggily ask what. ONE PIECE! I smile, let loose some happy cursing, and give him a thumbs up. He then runs back downstairs to his room to call other friends.
Also, here's the link where we got the news from.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-04-13/Funimation-Acquires-One-Piece
There will be uncut DVDs and a new dub. I'm quite happy.
It's funny. I was with this same friend at AXNY back in 2002. A Funimation guy, who we later saw running panels, was going around asking fans what shows they liked. My friend was a huge One Piece fan even back then and suggested it. The guy said that the couldn't promise anything, but that Funimation was very interested in it.
Unforgunately, 4Kids has bucketloads of more money and was looking for the next YuGiOh. They didn't find it in One Piece. Though anyone who knew anything about either franchise could have told the idiots that they were two very different series.

According to Wiki, while televised it's going be edited similarly to anime like Naruto or MAR(i.e. Sanji's still going to have a lollipop instead of his cigarette), but the translation will be accurate and there will be far fewer edits. the DVDs, OTOH, will be completely uncut.

That's doesn't make sense. If the CN edit of Naruto allows the Hokage to keep his pipe then why can Sanji have his cigarette?

It was by the behest of CN in order to remain somewhat consistent with the 4 Kids dub work. That's the only thing though.

Actually, it looked like Kamen Rider Luffy was twitching at the oh so uninformed post by K.O.V.G on the first page. I think I got a few twitched from the total failure of reasoning posted in them too. Living in 1997, bashing Funimation because of early DBZ, and buying bootlegs and insiting they're 'imports' annoys me as well.
Ha. Actually, I have a black friend from Brooklyn who makes a better sounding Sanji than whoever the hell 4kids cast.

Report from the FUNimation panel at Anime Boston (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2007/anime-boston/funimation)As announced on AnimeOnline, FUNimation will be producing two different versions of One Piece. The version that Cartoon Network will broadcast will be edited to a significantly smaller extent that the original version that 4Kids produced was. In particular, use of guns will not be edited out. However, because of FCC regulations, FUNimation is still not able to show character smoking cigarettes on screen. The violence in the series will also be toned down somewhat. An example Adam brought up specifically was that during fight scenes, the actual impacts may not be depicted. Also, because of both legal reasons and the specific requests of Toei, the Japanese licensor, character names will be kept as similar as possible to those used in Viz's editions of the One Piece manga. At the same time, FUNimation will be working on completely uncut 13-episode sets, which will be released at a rate of two to three per year, starting in late 2007 or early 2008.Well, hopefully that means no more of those glowing green guns.

Oh yeah. I met one of the 4kids voice actors at a con the other day, Michael Sinterniklaas. He didn't voice anyone major. (Looking it up, he played Boodle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Piece_minor_characters#Boodle).) It didn't sound like he enjoyed the edits, but he really didn't talk about One Piece.
Actually, he talked about how awesome working on Ninja Turtles was and how they got away with a ton of violence. Though one time someone at Standards and Practices got fired because she didn't put her foot down and censor an ep. He felt bad for her losing her job, but still was glad they pushed the envelope.
He has his own dubbing studio. Notebly he did the English dub for Berserk. That alone is total win. He also does other work. He's the voice Dean Venture. Awesome.
I also went to the Funimation panel. Well, ANN covers it better than I do probrably.
