Longterm writer on Wonder Woman yay!

This is good news. I will be buying WW again with #13.

Best possible art team? That's intriguing. I'm assuming it won't be Adam Hughes, and it doesn't sound like Nicola is leaving BoP.

“When a giant robot attacks Metropolis, send Superman. An alien attack? Get Green Lantern. When a car is hijacked by an escaped loony, turn on the bat signal, by all means. But if an ARMY shows up on your doorstep, that’s when you call in Wonder Woman.

---Jeez, I'm not even a WW fan and I'm excited.

I am just so happy.

You have no idea how much hope this gives me for the book. My biggest complaint of Wonder Woman over her history is the continued retread of the same 5 villains. Cheetah - boring. Circe - boring...etc.

I loved Greg Rucka for giving us Veronica Cale. But now we get Gail Simone the best modern DC character creator working on one of DC's top books and I couldn't be happier.

Congrats Gail!

Now we just need to get you on JLA.

Someone to handle the lesbian amazon issue.

What's there to handle? Some of the Amazons are intimate with each other. That's been confirmed as far back as Perez' run on the book.

Besides, I think the Amazon lesbians can handle each other just fine.

OhGailOhGailOhGailOhGailOhGailOhGail!!!!!

I've been a Wonder Woman fan since age 4. I don't think I've ever loved a comic book character more than Wonder Woman, who to this day gives me a child-like thrill when I see her in a story or illustration! After decades of tolerating mediocre-to-atrocious stories for a few sporadic moments of goodness, I'm ecstatic to hear that a character I've dearly loved will be in your hands by year's end!

Thank you, DC, and thank you, Gail! :D *insert giddy clappings and ear-to-ear grin*

Forget Silver Swan. I want to see Gail bring back another villain altogether:

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2566/2774290de6.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Wonder

It's Dr. Psycho inhabiting the elctoplasmic form of the body that Steve Trevor wished he had, pre-Crisis.

And Dr. Psycho, in this form, fell in love with Silver Swan.

But it could be just about anything now.

But what's nuttier than a little bald guy wishing he was a male version of his female arch-enemy and falling in love within the disguise. (It almost reeks of eDating horror stories but there's a real element of pathos in there.)

And, honestly, IMO, getting rid of Steve Trevor is like getting rid of Lois Lane. So I'd like him back, especially if you view him like Xander from Buffy or as a kind of Luke Wilson character.

Average guy. Quippy. And yet capable of bad assery.

SO EXCITED, YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY..!

Everything sounds perfect, although I'm still sort of resistant to the secret ID myself. But Gail, if you can convince me that it makes sense, I'm open to it. Make me belieeeeeeeve.

As for the villains, I agree that she's got a few strong ones, but the rest need some work. My one hope is that you'll revamp/give new life to some of the existing ones (like Dr. Poison and Silver Swan...Giganta still needs a bit of fine tuning as well), rather than creating a bunch of new ones. I'm willing to bet we can look forward to a good Queen of Fables story too...

There IS a God!!!!!

Let me amend this to say, There is a Goddess--and she's writing Wonder Woman!

This is fantastic news. I've not posted on this forum at all (maybe once), but I've been lurking for awhile (mainly because I can't get enough of the Olney thread), and I've been thrilled to learn that not only is Gail a wonderful writer, but she's a fine person, to boot (ah, those boots!).

I was thinking of dropping of Wonder Woman, what with the constant change is schedule and creative team, but with this news, I'm all over this comic book like--as someone recently said in a Newsarama interview--"cheese on a puff."

Huzzah, Gail!

It could still be the Dodsons, and she's just being tricky by suggesting that the art team might change...

Honestly, I have a shamefully narrow range of knowledge on comic artists, so I'm not the best person to guess. My first thought was maybe Frank Cho, since, like the Dodsons, he's known for drawing sexy women. Personally, I loved Jose Luis-Garcia Lopez's work on Gail's JLA: Classified arc, so I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him on board.

For some reason, I really can't stand that character type, mostly because it's usually contrasted against a female (anti)hero who totally owns all others. I guess it's becoming an archetype now, but it just reads really boring to me.

OK, I will get the one "bad" out of the way first: The False Identity. But if anyone can make it work, it will be you Gail.

As to everything else, OH MY GOD! I swear, reading that interview was like ... well, like something that if I said what it is, people would throw "TMI" at me like it were going out of style.

I absolutely love everything you said in the intereview, I cannot wait for the book. I want to see a monkey get punched!

Is DC already expecting artist delays? From what Kurt said on ComicBloc, his two issues will be to give the regular artist time to work ahead.

I'm expecting that the first arc will be done on time, but maybe the artist is a bit slow and they plan ahead of time to fill in with Busiek's two-parter?

Kyuubi

stealthwise
04-13-2007, 12:34 AM
Why not just put Kurt's issues ahead of Gail and mystery person's run?

Because if mystery person can produce, say, four issues without delay, then why not put out those four issues, then use the fill-in to allow that person to produce another several issues?

The fill-in doesn't work at first if that person is currently working and can produce enough on time for the first arc. Hell, I don't know.

1. Thank you.....It's been two long years, but my pestering has finally paid off!!!!! SCORE!!!!!!!

2. GS: Eh, bleah, that just isn’t what this book is going to be at all, to be frank. Look. It’s simple, and it’s never outdated.

The book is about the best goddamned warrior planet Earth has ever known, and she happens to carry a mystical arsenal around just for the hell of it.

If a writer can’t make that interesting and fun, they really shouldn’t be writing superheroes.
There are layers upon layers of the character, and we’ll get to them all. But let’s just make it very clear that Diana is the premiere asskicker in the DCU, period. Batman and Superman have other things that make them special. Diana is the one who occasionally carries an axe if someone gives her lip.
This is actually in my first issue, but the quote is, “When a giant robot attacks Metropolis, send Superman. An alien attack? Get Green Lantern. When a car is hijacked by an escaped loony, turn on the bat signal, by all means. But if an ARMY shows up on your doorstep, that’s when you call in Wonder Woman.

Simple.

I think I love you.......

edit:

This is a great question. First, I hate the supposed ‘dichotomy,’ that she preaches peace while fighting. This is not contradictory at all. It’s not ‘a’ or ‘b,’ it’s ‘a’ AND ‘b.’ It’s like saying a cop is a hypocrite when they say they want to keep the peace, just because they might have to wrestle a perp to the ground on occasion. Diana’s both. She loves the light, but she’s right at home in the dark, too. She can do dark

yeah, I do......

This is fantastic news! I'm really happy and excited because

1) I know Gail is a good writer
2) when she writes women they are realistic and three dimensional
3) she knows the DC universe and is not a newcomer or someone from outside the industry
4) is already a huge fan of the character, so there won't be a steep learning curve to catch up.

Looks like I could be getting this book again very soon. Oh and I'm apparently antiquated, but that's ok, I can live with that. :)

Oh, and congratulations to Gail!!!!!!!!!!!

Busiek has already indicated that he hasn't started on his two issues yet.

But Gail and mystery artist have. It certainly seems to be the case.

Given all the recent Wonder Woman problems just releasing the comic on time it's a great idea to try and ensure that this doesn't happen again.

Thank goodness. Now the only book I'm buying out of reflex is Flash. If someone could fix that mess it would be Christmas in April.

Gail on WW! Rock on! I just read Gen 13 #7... I haven't read it since the late 90's... Damnit Gail, I'm not made of money!
I have a huge collection of Wondy from the 70's to current so I'm looking forward to what you add to the mythos. I think where the book has missed in recent years is that it has been so focused on explaining her life and responsibilities outside of busting heads that the heroing has become secondary. IMHO.
My one request is that you maybe keep Nemesis around or someone who isn't Steve Trevor.. I know the classic boyfriend is Steve Trevor, but I always got a bigger kick out of it when she was involved with a costume. Johnny Double was fun in the seventies. I'd really like to see someone do something with the dangling Batman/WW relationship issues that writers left hanging in JLA and JLU.

I'm just glad you're on the book.. I was about to drop it. Congrats!

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am literally light headed, I am so happy now! This is a *%$ dream come true! :D
I don't know if I've mentioned this before but Wonder Woman is very special to me. I was very sick between the time that I was three to five, in fact I had to live in an oxygen tent. The only things that gave me any consolation were my stuffed kittens and when my mom would bring me a Wonder Woman comic and a slurpee.
To have Gail, someone that I like and admire so much, writing the character that means the most to me, is incredible.

Happy news indeed! Now, if I could make one request.......

I'm on my knees here, begging... BEGGING! PLEASE oh please... keep Nemesis around.

I'm being selfish here -- this has nothing to do with how the character might benefit the Wonder Woman title -- I just love Nemesis. I've loved the character for years and always wanted him back in the DCU and I didn't care how. I got my wish and now I just can't stand the thought of seeing the character vanish again into comic book limbo.

I really hope Gail has WW fight some of her rogues gallery, and other DC villains. "Monkey off a waterfall"? I hope that's Gorilla Grodd. And let's see Angle Man, a revamped Dr. Cyber, etc. And bring back Steve Trevor! As was said before, he is almost as important as Lois is to Superman, and ditching him for this long is criminal.

I've never, ever cared about Wonder Woman in any capacity outside ot the Justice League before. I am confident that Gail can make me care about WW though, her writing is some of the best and well-rounded I've ever encountered in Comics. Wow. Big news.

I haven't bought an issue of Wonder Woman since Greg Rucka left. Outside of Secret Six and Checkmate, I haven't bought a DC book since Infinite Crisis. This is...exciting. Almost. I'm cautiously optimistic. Good writers are one thing, but ultimately it's a matter of how much room they're going given by editorial powers.

Diana Prince? Strike one.

Super-spy identity as a method of "getting closer to real human beings"? Retarded, strike two.

I really like Gail Simone as a writer, but I'm not even sure it's possible to reignite my interest in reading a Wonder Woman comic.

I feel bad for Gail. It has to be frustrating that even though DC itself has confirmed that she on the book she can't talk about because DC's contract with her. Ironic that. In any case this should finally make Diana Fan happy assuming he likes the artist on the book.

The art team can NOT be George Perez,as he is busy with Brave and the Bold, and is only going to be able to do THAT,as he is doing 10 issues a year. A monthly WW for George is not in the cards.

Alot of good choices. The Dodsons are a good choice. If Adam Hughes has put ASWW on hold,he is another.

If he wasn't exclusive,i am sure Gail would grab Brian Micheal Bendis and make him pay..i mean, draw it. :p

Wonder Woman was greatly in need of, and deserving of, a writer who would stay for a long time, and be committed to making the book a huge hit. Greg Rucka was that, and was fairly successful. I think Gail has the potential to raise the book to the next level, and I'm looking forward to it. I think Gail can inject some humor into the title (which it needs) without making Diana look stupid (as, unfortunately, Jodi Piccoult has).

Finally! I was reading this week's issue and thinking, Dear crap when does Gail take over this book. Seriously, I've been thinking of dropping it for some time and if it wasn't the the news of Gail taking over, I would have. I still might, but I'll likley plod on through this crap just to help out my shop. At least J. Torres should be a good fill in in between.

I am upset because i DID drop the book, with issue 4. I really am looking to cut BACK on books, not add. Marvel and DC do a good job at adding at least one book a month a piece. Sigh.:(

I have cut back so much, it kinda hurts, but its for the right reasons. I can't afford too many comics, so I buy a few, but if Gail picks up another assignment, I may have to assign her a seperate section in my collection. ;)

I agree 100%.

Assuming that the artist is of the calibre that Gail promises, I am just on such a high, you can't even imagine. Seriously, can't imagine.

Fangasm from beginning to finish.

Gail's on WW!

Good news. I think its a perfect fit. Love that she's keeping the secret identity.

Forget Silver Swan. I want to see Gail bring back another villain altogether:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Wonder

Well, I pretty much agree with everything here 100%. A post Crisis (or is New Earth the term now?) version of this story would be a great way to bring back Steve Trevor.

But anyway, again, good thing Gail's coming to WW.
