Venting time.....
I hate being sick. Y'see, I'm at home today nursing a head cold. Got a lowgrade fever at a little over 100 and I just feel like shit. It's not that bad of a cold, I probably could have gone in to work today if I had to. But today in Chicago it's either raining or snowing here (depending on how the wind blows today I guess). So I said screw it and went back to bed after calling in. For all the good it did me. What with the car alarms going off or the sirens from emergency vehicles or just hearing the traffic.
Yeesh.
Now I am not a person who takes being sick all that well. No, I'm not the whiney "give me some soup and fluff my pillow" kinda guy. I'm the kinda guy who just wants to be left alone so I can either nap, read or use up the last frikkin' kleenex in the house.
Bah.
I hate being sick.
I can't even watch my "Secret Agent/Danger Man" DVDs because I keep drifting. (Gotta love Dayquil. Don't let it fool you, it does make you drowsy.) So instead I decide to read. Sorta. It's more like I read a line or two and then zzzzzz.
Double bah.
Have I mentioned yet how much I hate being sick?
Oh. Worst of all? No chance of getting my comics today because of my being home (1 car family here) and the weather being so "wonderful".
Oh yeah, I really, really hate being sick.
Bah.

garlic + apple cider/vinegar = you'll feel better. Garlic + Apple also works wonders.
Get well soon Kev.

Try lemon + whiskey = passed out. That works pretty good too.

I've got the "passing out" part down pat...
But that sound good. Except no lemon and on the rocks. ;)

C'mon,
We know that the best thing to watch while going in and out of consciousness is The Prisoner.

I blame Stillwell.
He's transmitting viruses from his office building towards mine. I just know it.
(FYI: we literally work next door to one another. ;) )
But thank you. :)

I had a super crappy day as well. Not in a 'being sick' sort of way, but I'm right there with ya Kevin.
I got a call this morning from my ex. (Father of my 11 year old daughter) and he was bawling. His wife had just left him and moved out. Now, they didn't have the best relationship, and he kind of treated her like crap, so I don't blame her for leaving at all. However, my daughter ADORES her step-mom, and I was the one who was going to have to break the news to her.
Right after that phonecall, my cousin called (we are the same age, and grew up like sisters), and told me that her dad has stage 3 cancer on the back of his tongue. They don't know many details yet, it doesn't look hopeless or anything, but still really scary for her.
Then my daughter got home from school and I had to tell her about her dad and her stepmom. She immediately started sobbing, and saying "this can't be true, this can't be real."
All over crappy day.
Not to take anything away from being sick and miserable, cause I hate that too, I am a horrible sick person. But this thread just gave me an opportunity to vent a little as well.
Hopefully tomorrow is better for the both of us.

Having a cold/virus requiring meds.... $25
Needing tissues to blow runny nose... $3
Milking sympathy to get treated like royalty during the illness... priceless!
Being sick always sucks Kev, I won't deny it. But... if you can get someone to make a comics run for ya.. you've got something to read during your recovery!

I had a 12-hour busride from Boro Park, NY home to Toronto that left at 11:30 pm on Tuesday night--and couldn't sleep on the bus for more than an hour or so. Then, last night, I slipped on a wet marble floor, gashed my scalp (shallowly but a nice long cut) and ended by having to go to the hospital for stitches.
The rest of the day was pretty decent... but the beginning and middle could've gone a teensy bit more enjoyably...

And Deeg-I feel so bad for your daughter! How long were your ex and his wife married? Do you think that your daughter could still visit with her stepmom after the divorce?

DG, so sorry to read about your uncle. Vent away.
I also got some bad news the past couple of days. Two pieces of news actually...
One, long time friend of my mother-in-law's is dying of cancer. We've known for quite some time that she's had it, but she's home now and slowly slipping away. She's said her good byes and is just "waiting to go home". Literally measuring her time left in days if not hours.
Two, girl I work with lost her father over night. He also was battling cancer. I know she's taking it extremely hard.
Both of those have kind of hit me hard because my wife is a cancer survivor, and makes my little cold seem quite petty now.

I've kind of been in a funk myself over some bad news recently.
A good friend of mine, a grade school art teacher and comic artist, was recently diagnosed with a degenerative ocular condition with no cure. Eventually he'll go blind.
Another good friend announced to a group of us that he's been diagnosed with Friedrich's Ataxia, another wicked bad denegerative disease...fatal in most cases. He's also a teacher and father to two young children.
Friedrich's Ataxia is also the disease that killed my oldest brother Tim 30 years ago. It's a pretty rare disease. To hear that my friend has the same disease that took Tim...it shook me pretty badly.

But with you having a cold Kev, won't you be canceling the next several con's you were planning on attending? As well as perhaps delaying interminably, the industry altering book you're working on??
Oh sorry, that's the Vile One.
