Seems like a fun game for the Xbox 360, especially if you have Xbox live. I like really like how they are taking a page from the whole "28 Days Latter" idea with the fast, and agile moving zombies. So what do you guys think?

I remember hearing about this game a while back. I stopped paying attention for a while because, for some reason, I started thinking it was a PC-only game. Maybe it was originally....I dunno

But since it's coming for the X360, I care again

It's also a PC game (thank godness).

Glad to see a PC game that embraces coop gameplay. Plus it has zombies!

Count me in :D

yeah the VC mod looks fantastic. too bad i hate VC.

But about Left 4 Dead, I read about it in EGM and it just added to my reasons to buy a 360.

wow more reason for 360 now. I love zombie games, and the thought of relying on your buddies while taking on the undead sounds exciting as it is.

I would love it if capcom made a RE game in a first person player kind of mood and have you as stars go into the mansion and take on a huge horde of zombies as well as Racoon city. If only they would :(

Here's an in-depth preview from a true fan of the game. Unlike many previews, this one gives you tons of details.

http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-preview-pg1.php

L4D combines my two favorite play styles: coop and "last stand," as in you're constantly outnumbered by hordes of enemies. There will also be plenty of "hold the fort" moments where you must defend your position from the zombie attackers.

Coop games tend to foster teamwork and are a blast to play, even with strangers. If you've played Sven Coop, you'll know what I'm talking about. Turtle Rock is also making communication easy and in some cases automatic (your character yells "reloading!" so everyone knows you're vulnerable).

The preview also says the 4 zombie players are optional. Facing off against other human players might ruin the coop experience, for me anyway.

Damn, this is a great year for multiplayer gaming. And it's about time coop games see a resurgence, seeing as they've been neglected for way too long.

This will be a great game, it's been in development for years now, it was originally a Turtle Rock game and Valve liked the look of it so much they bought the company. Valve never rush their releases they wait till things are perfect before releasing so expect something special

Plus you can't go wrong with a bit of co-op zombie play, it's a perfect fit.

I'm really excited about the game's integration with Steam and the inevitable TF2-like updates a few months after release.

San Francisco and Berkeley are plastered with L4D ads, especially the BART and MUNI stations.

It looks like an awesome story and great characters, but I wish it was third person shooter instead of first person... since they took Resident Evil: Outbreak's servers off, it'd be nice to have a game to replace it in that sense.

"Merry Christmas."

I enjoyed the demo. Usually, I have to adjust sensitivity settings, but the default sensitivity settings work. The controls feel more refined than Team Fortress 2. I think they tweaked the dead spot. I appreciate the intelligence of the computer controlled teammates. They heal you when you need it and save your ass when you're hanging from some zombie tongue like some zombie hunting Tarzan. And friendly fire isn't as bothersome as I imagined it would be. I assume it's due to the competent AI. Left 4 Dead is reminiscent of the Flash game titled the Last Stand. Coincidentally, it feels like an arcade game. Now, that's not a detriment, just a comment on its feel. I enjoyed the demo and look forward to eventually buying Left 4 Dead.

I enjoyed the demo.

Was that for the PC version? I own an XBOX 360 and I think the demo is available for all on the 11th. Can't wait.

I got early access to the 360 demo.

The lack of dialogue and story is what made the demo feel like an arcade game. For my interest's sake, I hope there's a story. Otherwise, I feel Left 4 Dead may wind up a quickly tiring experience. :frown:

Its great, you play as one of four characters, and you are all watching each other's back. When a zombie is alerted to you, they break out in a sprint right towards you. they will break through glass or broken walls to get to you. If there is a Boomer around and he "throws up" on you, the screen goes green and wavy while you are infected by it and hordes of zombies come running at your party. If one of your teammates gets infected by it, their body gets an orange outline while they are infected. For reloading a weapon the character yells out "reloading" to indicate they cannot have your back for a couple of seconds. There's plenty more to it, as well.

Sounds awesome. I always wondered when they would release a game like this. It makes so much sense, yet, it's always handled differently. Seems like such a perfect opportunity for a fun multiplayer game.

I've played through the demo several times. It's a blast to play with friends. And every time you play it...it's slightly different.

Someone was complaining about a lack of story....but this is just the demo. Since the makers of the game (Valve), wanted to make this like a movie...there'll be a story.

In fact you can check things out in the demo...in the safe area...there's writing on the wall. It's cool. I have a feeling stuff like this will be spread in the full game too.

I can't wait to buy this game.

I watched the 1UP Show hands-on. While I now want it more than I did a week ago, I think it's not worth the initial 60 dollars. From what I gather, Left 4 Dead is a very short game, but the AI director adds replay value because it changes things per play-through. What sparked my interest was looking at the game through the eyes of a zombie. Playing as a zombie looks like a ton of fun.

Considering the demo only has 1/4th of a level and I've played it several times....to me it's definetly worth the price tag. Especially when you factor in the multiplayer versus mode.

Yes, the story will mostly just be writing on the walls, just like in Portal. If people don't explore, then they're going to miss out on all the little bits like that. But seriously, this is a multiplayer game, how much story do people expect there to be?

Anyway, you'll notice that the intro leads directly into the beginning of the first campaign, and I believe the four campaigns are all linked together. So there should be enough story there for the people who are interested in that sort of thing.

In any case, for those who are wondering if they should buy this or not, please note: this is, first and foremost, a really excellent co-op game. It's easily the best co-op game I've ever played. If you're not going to play co-op or versus, then you probably shouldn't bother with it, but if you are, there really aren't any other games more worth your money, in my opinion.

I've just had so many, "Oh, crap! Run!!!" moments that it's a blast to play. The AI Director really mixes things up every time you play. Occasionally my team gets through the first two levels with no problem at all, but often times my team has gotten totally ruined by 3 or more bosses all at the same time when we least expected it. But that's what makes the game so much fun for me. I've never played a game before that was more fun to lose than it was to win, but Left 4 Dead pulls it off really well. There are a lot of pure chaos moments that will stick in your memory.

I give it thumbs up, and I can't wait to play the full game this Tuesday!

Versus is going to be the best part probably, as I can only imagine how awesome it will be to play as a zombie!

I can also see myself replaying the game several times after beating it due to the random scenario thing as I won't have it fully memorized, although honestly it's not that random since the objective is still the same it's just that weapons sometimes spawn in different areas long with pills.

Just when I think I've found a pattern in the AI director...he tosses something else in.

Ussually after a horde comes after you a Hunter always comes and then a smoker after that. But the AI still changes from that after doing it to my party several matches in a row.

The AI director likes to put the Boomer around corners and in places where the thing can see you first.

The AI of the smoker is pretty good as well, if he misses you with his tongue and you see him...he runs like hell away and then sneaks up on once he loses you.

This game is awesome.

Anyone tried expert?
It's pretty tough at times and at times you make it through as easy as advance.

I dunno. The gameplay itself is really fun, but it can be ruined easily by people taking the game too seriously.

Or maybe I just hate online gamers in general.

The demo is cool but it seems like a game that could get real boring fairly quickly unless you always have fun groups. Same could be said of any online game but even stuff like BF2 or WOW there is always something else you can do. Have to wait for the final version and see how it all comes together.

If you have cheats enabled, you can type sv_cheats 1 in the console, then thirdpersonshouldercam or something and I forget what's the cam... command to make it further. I set it at a reasonable distance behind my character. It's hard to aim though.

I think this game is missing something. There's not alot of dead ends or reasons to go into one. I'm afraid everyone will just run the same A to B route like robots 24/7 once they're experienced. Especially since you get no indepence from the other players.

Did some 2 on 2 vs. with friends via Xbox 360 last night and it was an awesomely good time. The new NXE party chat update is fantastic! We were able to all still stay connected and taunt each other all while we played.

A two hour vs. play session is just about right. I definitely see myself getting my moneys worth out of this game.

I have the same reservations about first person games and not just shooters. I hate the duel stick control. It's like when I say I don't like Oblivion cos it's first person and people protest "or third person!" Yes...with first person controls.

I downloaded the Left4Dead demo anyway but it only took me a few minutes to turn it off. Camera change wouldn't help sadly.
