I've been putting some serious thought into this for the last couple days.
Long story short: I want to make a special comic book anthology, with all kinds of stories from various writers/artists -myself included, of course-. Only 100% of the sales of the comic would go to Children's Hospital (http://www.chsomaha.org/) here in town (or something like that, maybe people could sell the comic in their own cities and donate the proceeds to a hospital of their choice) to help support some of the kids there and maybe for a few funding projects at the hospital.
Why am I considering this crazy idea? Because I love kids and some kids... they could use all the help they can get. I know I often spew bile and vitriol in the 'Out of Context Rants' thread about how much I hate people (which I do, some of the time), but I have a special place in my ice cold, diamond hard heart for kids. Especially kids who need help.
The only problem is that people would -more than likely- have to work for free. It's a charity thing, yes, but I'm also aware that some artists don't want to put time and effort into things without getting paid. Believe me, I know the feeling. But at the same time, doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of doing charity work? As much as I'd like to pay people, I really don't have the finances right now to do that. =(
Unless someone can come up with a good suggestion/compromise there, I'm stymied on how to tackle that part, never mind trying to figure out a reasonable content level, story length, printing costs (oh God, printing costs), ect. all.
I've never really had any experience dealing with something like this, but I feel in my heart -with the utmost sincerity- that this is something I *have* to do at some point in time or another.
And I don't want to commit to anything *just* yet (since I'm reaching midterms in my classes right now), but rather I want to have this carefully planned out right down to every detail so that there's no problems when I finally DO decide to commit.
I'm not sure how it can be done, but I'm hoping there's others out there who may have some insight/advice. Am I too crazy for even considering this? Would anyone even be interested at all? Ya'know... those kinda questions too.
I guess I'll probably just do my own comic by myself if I can't figure out what to do. That wouldn't be a bad idea either, but I just like having that sense of unity and togetherness when it comes to helping those who really need it. =];;;
