According to www.starwars.com (and this news was posted before today, so it's no joke)....the Darth Plagueis novel has been cancelled. Apparentally the novel would have gone into the background of Palpatine/Darth Sidious as well as reveal more about his apparent master, but apparentally they didn't feel it's a story that needs to be told yet, or got a cease-desist from George. It is possible that they are saving the story for the coming TV show (A flashback episode perhaps?).

That's bad. I was looking forward to it.
Wait, there's a SW series coming up? How? When?

Rubbish... This is the one book I was actually looking forward too other than the LOTF stuff..

Ice Lord, Lucas has announced two TV series; one is basically a CG version of the Clone Wars cartoon; the other, apparentally a live-action series. The CG series debuts in '08, the TV series in '09.

Disappointing.
I figured that since GL has stopped making movies about the major characters, we might get some answers about them in the novels. But it looks like he's still lording over everything, just so he can keep some stories for himself.

That's great. I can't wait.

The live action apparently takes place between ROTS and ANH, probably centering on the formation of the Rebel Alliance and Vader hunting down stray Jedi.
Don't know about you, but I'm hoping for lots of general ass-kickery.

Hell, yeah. I just hope it will be broadcasted in my country.

Wasn't this one written by James Luceno? Either way it's a damn shame but this is good in the long run. It means that the Star Wars expanded universe is cannon and that George Lucas himself monitors it to make sure that there are few inconsistencies as possible. I view this as a good thing because the reason why I stopped reading Star Trek novels is because all of them have never happened even if those novels are written by cast and crew members.

Honestly, as much as I love Palpatine and the mythos of the force users, I think a little ambiguity goes a long way and this story doesn't particularly have to be told. Mystery lends a great deal to the appeal of the Jedi/Sith.
That being said, I'm gonna be all over this if it ever does get released. :D

That'll happen until he dies. Thank god the EU (novels and comics*) is mostly great stuff.
* I don't play the computer/video-games but I hear they're great, as well

Quoted for truth.
You know what I really want to see, though? What I'd actually pay big money for?
A well-made Young Jedi Knights cartoon. That would simply rock!

I'm holding out for an animated Shadows of the Empire film. They could throw in things from the novel, the comic and of course, the video game.

Was that the book with the Jedi Wookie?
If it is, I would so like to see that animated.

That is one of my favourite SW books. I just loved the rivalry between Xizor and Vader.

Lowbacca. That guy pwned!
Over all, it was a rather ligth-hearted series. Teenage Jedi going on adventures, the importance off bravery, friendship and loyalty, a hint of romance, humour, drama and action. The perfect stuff for a cartoon.
Preferably, I'd like to see it in a similar style as Avatar:TLA, though I guess I'd accept something along the lines of Clone Wars as well.

You know, I've never actually read that one. I need to get a hold of it one of these days. :)

I haven't read it myself yet. I'll put it on my list.

It's a great read. You have my recommendations. It's has everything: drama, action, doubt, and great character relationships.

Well, I feel I ought to warn you; YJK is not what you would call high quality books per se. The actual writing is only decent at best. (Unless they hired seriously bad translators for the Swedish version or something.)
Rather, the real value lies in the how the whole thing feels Star Wars, from the characters to the storylines. (In Diversity Alliance they visit the Twi'Lekk homeworld, and it felt just like something GL could have put into a movie.)

I read the first couple of books (my library stopped carrying them) and they were good, but I was in the sixth grade. They were aimed at a younger audience, not quite as young as the Jedi Apprentice or Last of the Jedi books but not as old as most of the novels.

How many books are there in YJK series?

Fourteen, I think. They seem to be avaliable as three part omnibus, though, since they're all sort of short.

Wow, that's a lot of books. I'll try to find them in e-book format. Thanx!:D

Agreed. I honestly think that telling this story could possibly ruin Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine for people because no matter what his origins they'll never quite be as cool or as spooky as the one people have imagined for him.
That, and if Lucas wants Sidious to be the ultimate inhuman evil of the Star Wars saga then telling a story that's going to humanize him seems to be a mistake.
That being said, I so want this if it ever comes out.

The YJK series was ok, I spent a summer a few years back tracking down the originals at various used bookstores. They're fun, Star Wars adventure fluff, geared towards young teenagers. I didn't have high expectations for them, and I wasn't dissappointed as a result.
That said, after I finished reading the stories through for the first time, I haven't really felt the need to read them again since.

I honestly don't know why I loved those books as much as I did. I probably shouldn't have loved those books as much as I did. But I did. :o
