I just got my hands on the Dark Knight Returns comics by Frank Miller and I gotta say that Batman has gotten out of hand. Now don't get me wrong, I love Batman and all. The thing that most draws me to him is that he wasn't given any gifts but still he manages to protect those he loves and the innocent. But when I read the part where ...

SPOILER!!!!!!

Batman defeats superman...I knew that Batman had just pulled a Chuck Norris and become undefeatable. Its a lil absurd...the battle was great but at the end you are left thinking..."What just happened? Superman lost to a mere mortal?"

A Superman who wasn't really trying and didn't want to hurt Bruce lost to Batman who'd had years of preparation and some help from Robin and Green Arrow.

You completely missed the point.

First of all, Clark had been hit by a nuke, shot by a bunch of missles and a tank, had an entire city's worth of electricty routed into his skull, was blasted with kryptonite, and was fighting in a place that hadn't seen the sun in days.

Despite all of that, it's obvious that Clark could have knocked Bruce unconscious by tapping his pinky to Bruce's head, but the whole point of the fight was that he didn't want to take Bruce against his will. He just wanted to talk.

Even considering this, Bruce wasn't really fighting either; he was just running down the clock in order to fake his death in a dramatic fashion. He was proving a point, not "pulling a Chuck Norris."

If you were left thinking "What just happened? Superman lost to a mere mortal" afterwards, you probably didn't read very carefully.

SPOILER!!!!!!

I think it's ok by now. It's only 21 years later. It's been spoiled.

Also, I believe you're the only person who hadn't read it yet. We were just waiting for you.;)

There's always someone who hasn't read something - so personally I always thing spoiler warnings are appropriate

I gotta side with the goddamn batman on this one. I wouldn't have expected a spoiler label here.

Miller also built Superman up pretty well - I think the scenes of him turning the nuke around are pretty fantastic.

Superman is kind of wishy-washy, but he's also human - maybe moreso than Bruce, who's totally single-minded and driven. Obviously Superman could kick the hell out of Batman, but that's not his style - particularly considering that Bruce is his friend, and that he doesn't entirely disagree with him.

Of course, DKSA is another thing entirely, but I'll let that go because "Get out of my cave" is a great line.
