Like the article says, the worst kept secret is official. The rumored 120 gb harddrive black xbox 360 is official and yep its going to cost ya 479...hmmm.
My thoughts, great for people wanting to get the 360, but for someone like me, well it would be nice sometime if MS would make that HD available sometime soon, and allow us to connect our 20 gb hds to be honest. Oh well, I am happy with my 360 and the live service I get so yea...here is the link...

For me, there are 2 questions you must ask if you want to upgrade?
(1) Have you filled your 20GB HDD?
(2) Are you limited by Component and VGA High-Def outputs?
If the answers are "yes" then you should probably upgrade. If not, party on. I don't see any obvious advantages personally. The 360 does full 1080p via component and VGA anyway.

The problem being that not many TVs do 1080p via component, and some not by VGA either. So a lot of 1080p capable TVs can only get 1080p input from the HDMI connection.
And try as I might, I can't find anywhere that lists which TVs -can- get 1080p input via component or VGA connections. :p Most annoying.
Of course the other solution is to create some kind of HDMI adapter, which I can't believe is impossible.
The HD is of course going to be grossly overpriced for what it is regardless. Though the rumor is that all the 360 Elite's features (minus the black color) will become the "premium" 360 package in the fall...and it's rumored there won't be any price increase involved.
So basically unless you really really want to be the first to have the new "stuff" or desperately want a 360 in black, you're better off waiting.
I just find it interesting that they'll charge half the price of the system just for the 120GB HD (since the rumored pricepoint is $200).

I don't know who'd need the space. After all this time I've still got 12 gigs free and there's still some crap I could stand to delete. And HDMI really doesn't seem like it's worth much other than being convenient.
I wish I had a black 360 though

I barely use my 360 as it is, no way Id pay for a even more expensive 360 for just a couple extras. It doesnt even come with hd-dvd in it.
Not even like its a deal, your paying for the hard drive and cable that come extra in it.

Well what exactly do you have on your hard drive? I myself have been holding out for a 360, so I'm trying to decide if I should get this one or just the 60 gig. I mostly want to do the retroarcade game thing. I want to download the games and keep it there on the hard drive. If these games are BIG, then seems the black one is the way to go. If not so big, the white.

The Live Arcade games are tiny in size.

You're not actually paying for the cable, as such. You're paying for the port. The standard 360doesn't have an HDMI port, you have to use component or VGA to get high definition output.

I see it as a complete waste of money if you already own a 360. If you don't own one it is a decent setup to get into the 360. The 360 has a lot going for it and if they keep things going the way they were they could really end up like the PS2 and PS. I personally despise Xbox live. I admit it was very well done but I rarely playgames online so it isn't worth paying for. To me this system has no online gaming. A slightly dissapointing lose for me.
Despite what many say about the PS3, their sales have not been as bad as many people try to make them out to be. Although, if they don't start releasing some groundbreaking games or get a lock on major exclusives they could do very poorly this generation.
The Wii will do fantastic but I honestly don't see it as a gaming system. I know it sounds odd but I see it more of a fun gimmick fad than a next gen system. With Mario, Zelda, Metriod, cheap price, and fanboys under their belt they have a very strong chance of returning Nintendo to it's former glory.
I have no idea why I rammbled on about the other systems.

I think the Elite is more an attempt to sway the AV junkies who have been sitting the fence between the 360/PS3, and little more.

Actually, I think that's spot-on. The larger HD is pretty much designed specifically for people that are using X-Box live to download HD Television shows and movies and such (in which case the 20GB version fills up very quickly...particularly since it comes almost half-full to begin with).
If you're only downloading the occasional X-Box Live Arcade game and downloadable content for games you own, the 20GB hard drive will last a pretty long time.
In other words, if you're using the X-Box 360 as the "multimedia platform" Microsoft touts it as (and have the other hardware to take advantage of it), the Elite might not be a bad choice. If you're using it primarily as a gaming console, it's probably not necessary.

Bingo, this is for people who are using live marketplace to download HD movies and tv shows....there are many who are saying the new model to follow is downloadable hd content, not purchasing blu-ray or HD-DVD.

Digital distribution will replace physical media eventually. It's almost certian.

I've been on the fence myself, leaning more towards a 360 due to its library and price... now that it's got an HDMI port, I'm absolutely sold.
...now I just have to save enough dough. =D

In exhcange for more data, the thing is bigger and more expensive. Really, that's the way to do things.
