OK... I was serving as a Kindergarten aide today.

In the morning class, I had to help kids read a book called "Pat on the Mat."

"Pat." "Pat sat." "Pat sat on the mat." End of book. Good times. Not challenging for me, a man months away from his Masters degree, but challenging enough for a five year old. And nice pictures, which I dig.

So this one little girl is reading, and she gets to page three, the challenging "Pat sat on a mat" page. She doesn't know the world 'mat' but she looks at the picture and guesses that Pat is sitting on a carpet.

I encourage her to sound out the word she doesn't know.

So she says "Pat sat on the C-AR-P-E-T." pretending to sound out the word. She was trying to decieve me, but it was the most precious thing I'd ever seen.

UNTIL after lunch. Now it's tied as the cutest.

The second group of students were all sitting on the carpet after art time. One boy sat down... and then he put his hands together and put them next to his head, like he was sleeping, but his eyes were open and he -was sitting "criss-cross applesauce" (Indian-style to my generation).

Two girls sit next to him and say "Look, Carlos is sleeping!" and suddenly the whole class rushes over, takes their spots, and just STARES at him in wonder as he sits there, his little hands by his head, trying not to laugh at how terriby cute he is, and they all whisper "he's sleeping. How is he sleeping?" in genuine confusion.

I've been on cloud nine all day. Kids can be so cute. Such a nice way to make an adult.

My daughter, who's not quite three, has taken to shouting "Yes, sir!" and saluting when I ask her to do something.

I have no idea where she got that from, but I could definitely get used to it.

Connor (5) does the same thing. Only it's "Sir! Yes, Sir!" Weird.

He's also been "reading" my copy of Essential Ghost Rider since the movie. Only he calls it Additional Ghost Rider.

That is too damn cute.

My 1 year-old cannot get enough of our dog. She'll just walk up to him and start giggling or just simply assault & hug him. The 3 year-old digs him too but doesn't snuggle into him like a bear-skin rug like the little one does.

Homer, those pictures are precious, especially the second one. You have cool kids.

I'm trying to make sure that my 3 yr-old is very well-balanced. She does love Barbies and Disney princesses, but she is also crazy about superheroes.

I'm trying to do the same thing. My 4-yo daughter is a girly-girl but she knows her superheroes. Spider-Man is one of her favorites.

And speaking of cute things... My 1-yo son has started saying "thanks yew" anytime you give him anything or do anything for him. He's awesome.
