Whatever happened to those two? was just reading the Nightwing and Supergirl thread and it reminded me...whats exactly their history up to this point?

Nightwing proposed to her before Infinite Crisis. The upcoming Nightwing Annual is supposed to tell the story of how they ended up not getting married after all.

Personally speaking, I prefer them apart. Or at least not married. Neither of them would work as a supporting character in the others' book and having them not appear wouldn't work either. Fans would be like, "Aren't these two married? How come they're never together?"

Well, we all remember how great X-Files got once Mulder and Scully finally got married.

DonC

They never got married. Mulder was just the father of her child.

Well, yeah. I was trying to overshoot what happened to understate what did. Anyway, my point was that the show didn't really do all that great because of it. Then again, the execution of them getting together was all kinds of jumbled.

Then again, what else would you call Infinite Crisis and what happened to Nightwing? Sounds like a jumbled mess that lost a ton of viewers too. Hell, even I dropped this favorite book with the crap in the Jones run and the crap in Infinite Crisis which was a waste of time and money.

The show didn't do well by then because it had been on way too long by that stage. Had nothing to do with Mulder and Scully getting together.

Nightwing and Babs BELONG together!

Of course, Batman comics haven't been around too and could never run out of steam like X-Files did. Right. Um.. right?

Yeah saying it went on too long is a copout. Especially when Batman is just one example of something not sucking just because it's old. X-files stories just stopped making sense and it turned off a lot of viewers, kind of like what is happening with the show Lost right now.

Course it could be said that TV fans are even more fickle than comic book fans. Shorter attention spans I mean.

Ah, but saying it went on longer than the creator of the show had the ability to tell an interesting story is right on the money.

I too am happy that Dick and Barbara are no longer together. His pining for her was getting old, and it's time he found someone new (or, failing that, I wouldn't be averse to him returning to Starfire).

I'm sure Dick and Babs will get back together at some point, so don't go celebrating too early. They've broken up before and gotten back together. They belong together, some piss poor writers who haven't a clue how to write romance between two loving couples doesn't change that.

Lots of TV shows go on too long, do your research and you'll find many examples of this. Stating that fact is far from being a copout. It's reality. TV and comics are two very different mediums.

ahem.. Identity Crisis. Batman: War Games. Batman: War Crimes. Bruce Jones on Nightwing. Evil Cass in Robin. Just for fun I could toss in Wonder Woman and the dead end DC has left that character at.

Need I go on?

I prefer Nightwing with starfire(alien princess).

it's too corny having former batgirl with former robin.

just silly.

Nightwing should be astud in my eyes, he should sleep around, comit to crime fighting, not women.

Oracle will find someone else to love, she should meet someone online, i believe she has lots of computers, right?

Seconded, Why indeed?

I'm sorry, but it's one thing to see Dick unsure of himself w/ his position w/ Batman, I get that. But Babs has always seemed either like she was doing him a favor by being w/ him, using him as her punching bag, or to wishy washy to worthwile.

Dick should be better than that, Kory is better than that. The gorgeous warrior princess w/ great self esteem is what Dick deserves after all the shit he's been through.

I prefer Dick and Kory to Dick and Barbara.

I always thought of them being a couple was a great idea that was really poorly executed. Dixon thought of of it, then went no where with it. Devin Grayson professed to love them so much, then wrote them so horribly that the readers couldn't stand the characters. It's the writers and editors that ruined the relationship, not the characters themselves.

Dick and Kory have long been over and they won't be getting back together.

Agreed, DLH. It's due to poor writing/editorial, nothing more.

Well, you're right in a way. "Poor writing" could certainly account for them being a boring couple.

The characters are written, so obviously poor writing is going to ruin them. Just like good writing will improve them. Of course its never the character's fault. They don't actually exist.

Nightwing and Starfire forever. Dick and Babs have that whole brother and sister thing going on which is creepy.

I was thinking more girl next door who you grew up with thing. Plus Babs is a bit older.

Dick and Babs should not be together. It would make way too much sense. It would appear like an after-school special or a show on Lifetime.

Dick - "Babs, I have loved you since I was 16"

Babs - "Oh Dick, every since I first set eyes on you, I knew..."

I mean, COME ON....how predictable and....80s teen movie-like

And you're trying to tell me that people in wheelchairs, as well as their partners, are doomed to have NO sex life of any sort? Man, are you unimaginative.

i thought i'd be the only one in support of Dick and Starfire.
barbara is always gonna be a bat-character
it's nice that nightwing would be able to branch out and find someone in his life as a superhero rather than one of his creepy dark vigilante friends.

it show's he's grown up a bit and is his own person.

I'm glad they didn't get married. Nightwing should stay a bachelor. Plus, I'd rather see him get with Starphire.

Too many comic characters are getting saddled with domestic life, especially iconic characters who shouldn't, like Superman, and Catwoman.

2 loving couples? Are swingers that hard to write? ;)

Disagree on Supes, agree on Catwoman. That's just...odd.

I favor Dick and Babs. If you look at his history, for him to be a swinger it really doesn't fit with the way he was raised by Batman and Alfred.

TROUBLEZ

He doesn't have to be a swinger. I'm sure he could be both a bachelor and not be sexually promiscuous.

TheWraith

LOL I meant two loving people ;) But yes, most writers seem incapable of being able to write about such a thing, which I find rather inexplicable. And who says iconic characters shouldn't have a rich and fulfilling life in every way and facet? Why can't they? Doesn't that make them more real, more three-dimensional, more rich characters? Saying they can't or shouldn't, to me, is foolish.
