View Full Version : Where Are The 198 Now?

For my 1000th post, I ask a question that has been sorely vexing me:

What the devil happened to the 198?

The O*N*E decided not to keep them on the campus by force, but surely, of the nearly two hundred "residents", some must have decided to stay at the X-Mansion? But I see none of them hanging around in any of the X-books. Could they all have just up and left?

I know where a few of them are: Outlaw: working for Agent X. Mammomax: apparently, this guy left campus, wandered around for a while, and was picked up by the Facility !?!

While it makes sense that some of the 198 should go their own way, I'm baffled that some of the more inhuman-looking mutants left campus.

For example, where did Mammomax think he was off to? Get a job at Wal-Mart? Stay at the YMCA? Does this guy even have any money? Also, since he's a wanted criminal, wouldn't the O*N*E have arrested him the moment he left campus?

What about Peeper and Leech? Wouldn't they have stuck around? Would Frosty have let the underaged, green-skinned Leech leave campus?

Where's Lorelei? Is she trying to make it as a dancer so soon after her attack by the Sapien League? Wouldn't she stick around for protection?

Wouldn't Arclight, Scalphunter, Sack, and Fever Pitch have been busted?

They all seem to have disappeared. WTF?

Peace,
Syzygy

In Civil War: X-Men, Domino and Shatterstar, with the help of Caliban break into the Xavier Institute grounds and release more than half of the 198, bringing the tension between the X-Men, the 198 and O.N.E to a head. Bishop, along with Sabra and Micromax is charged by Iron Man with hunting them down, while Cyclops, Archangel, Iceman and Beast escape from the grounds to find them before the pro-registration forces do.

So there goes half of that pesky 198...

Also, Mammomax is actually touched on in the latest New X-Men storyarc.

Recently Mammomax was captured by the Facility, the same group responsible for the creation of X-23. He was used as a test subject for a monster created by the Facility staff, which consumed Mammomax.

The others I'm not too sure of though.

Congrats on the 1,000 posts though!

So, after that incident in the desert they just...wandered off?

Where did they go?

Absolutely none of them elected to return to the mansion grounds?

They wandered off into the desert?

Did Domino take them somewhere? How? Where?

It seems they just...faded away.

Peace,

Well, it was a lame idea to begin with, and no surprise the ediors and writers just forgot about them.

Its like season 7 of buffy one episode there are 40 slayers in a tiny 3 bedroom one bathroom house and the next there just not there.

and yes its a f-ing stupid idea 10% of millions of people is not 198...it stiffes creativity (cant create new villians/allies) and they kept a lot of the crappy mutants they should've gotten rid of

I've got a feeling that a few of them may end up being cannon fodder for the next X-Men arc. Also supposedly quite a few may show up in The Initiative titles.

The name "198" is just so freak'n lame.

The only one I find even slightly interesting is Outlaw. I don't think they were cool enough to want to see saved or survive. Take Mammomax for example. ;)
