View Full Version : Did 9/11 sting the public into SH Registration

The only time the MU and the reality ever crossed over was during 9/11, when ASM #36 and MK Cap #1 showed the after effects. What if the public harboured some deep-seated resentment towards the heros, for not saving NY from 9/11? What if the Registration was the publics payback for the heros who can fend off villians they know, easily, but have no way of protecting the public from the likes of clandestine terrorists, who covertly infiltrate the USA boundaries, and use everyday instruments to wreak havok?
The only time the MU and reality crossed over, and the legacy might be complete distrust of superhumans as any effective shield against the terrorists. The public has a right to feel a little cynical towards the elitist superheros, who prance about causing damage, and feel the heros are worthless for anything else, and so do not put-up with their scatter brained exploits any longer. Both 9/11 and Stamford showed how powerless superheroes are, sometimes, to protect the general population.

You can see similar themes in Millars/Ellis Authority series. Even in Millars MK: SpiderMan book. I think this is a story idea that Millar has been toying with, for how long? Maybe since 9/11.

How about when Kang leveled D.C. killing millions? That can't have been very popular....

Exactly my point. Millars had this idea for awhile.

Was this really in MU continuum? What book did this happen in?

Avengers, "The Kang Dynasty", Busiek's last arc. It was a 'Nuff said issue, Avengers Volume 3 #49 I believe.

To be honest Standford really whipped people into a anti-hero frenzy.
I know it's not really on topic but not a big fan of Marvel Uni is akin to the real world, I'd like some abstract stuff happening like certain heroes going into politics.

Secret War #1, Nick Fury just told the President a terrorist group, set up by the Latvarian Ruler, was organised in the USA, and the President tells Fury to forget it. Fury says they are going to do it again (ignore the evidence before 9/11). People were gong to get killed and the President was going to do this diplomatically. Just another connection between 9/11 and the MU.

Wikipedea, if you can believe it, says that this storyline was in a period of de-emphasising continuity by Marvel, and that when Geof Johns took over writing, miraculously, DC was rebuilt and repopulated. So, if that being the case, I don't think the death of millions really happened and was a glitch, that was quickly re-addressed.

That's a pretty big glitch.....
But hey according to that logic doesn't that mean Frontline didn't happen? :p

The amazing thing is that there was no repercussion...no period of rebuilding... no reaction over in the Fantastic Four, nor the Xmen, nor in any other book that would logically have some reaction or impact by the capitol being flattened.
Just ignorred by the next writer and let's move on.
A serious cross-over opportunity dropped by marvel...

I'm assuming you mean the accusations levelled at Tony Stark about his Atlantis dealings, and all the money he assembled from the ensuing conflagration? That this part of Marvels continuity will be brushed under the carpet, also?

that was one of my bitterest moments with marvel, I mean DC even had the effects of an earthquake reverberate in other titles besides batman. Marvel has basically ignored this huge story, other than mentioning it in passing (I believe tony stark mentions it either in civil war or one of the crossovers, but that was about it)
