I just read Fantastic Four 205, 205, & 208. I have never read these before but if gave me insight to the "weakness" of the Nova Corp. When the Skrulls were attacking Xandar, the Centaurians were fighting back, but they only seemed to have the power of someone like Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon. They were riding on skimmers and shooting ray guns. Some flew, but they had no Gravimetric Pulse. They were shooting laser blasts from the back of their wrist cuffs and from guns.

If you have read the story, you notice none of the Centaurians appeared to be physically powerful. None of them had stars on their helmets. Instead, they all had the upside down boomerang. They did not have the three starbursts on their chests. They were all infantry. Richard Rider was the big gun.

Richard received his power from the dying Nova Prime Centaurian, which made him special. He was quickly trained in his sleep in order to fight Zorr. I guess at this time, the World Mind did not give out much power to the Centaurians, except for one - the Nova Prime Centaurian. The rest were flying men with laser guns.

Again, Richard is unique because he was not only the one person who held the power of Nova Prime Centaurian, he is the longest living Nova. The ones in Annihilation: Prologue only came into being after Rich fed his power into Xandar and brought it back into existence. All the Nova's in Annihilation: Prologue were much greener than Rich. They were brash and only thought they were more experienced than him.

In the Nova #1, we will see at least one of the alien races the now dead Nova Corp used to protect. And the preview shows that the alien race was protected by the Nova Corps' sheer number of troops. That's why when Richard Rider shows up alone, the race is concerned that the whole corp did not arrive. They have never had a Nova with tons of power show up to protect them.

The Nova Corps was infantry. But they were far outnumbered by the millions of ships and warriors in the Annihilation Wave. If an infantry is outnumbered, they need bigger guns or bombs. The Nova Corp only had one, Richard Rider.

This also partially explains why Adora told Rich his power had to stay on Xandar if he left (in Rom). He was far more powerful than the other Centaurians. My thinking is that once the Nova Force has been in a Nova, it is easier on the system of a new recipient, transferred from person to person. But when it goes directly from the World Mind to a new recipient, it may take more time to assimilate the power. Or maybe humans are a much better vessel for the force.

You bring up a lot of good points. Originally, when Xandar was introduced the soldiers were only basic infantrymen. It was also stated that there were about 500 of them total. Later Pyrus Kril was reconned to become a Xandarian who'd been second in command to Gabriel Lan on a Xandarian starship. Lan was depicted as having a uniform exactly like Rider's. Then Kril had one as he was shoen confronting Galactus before he became FireLord. At some point the entire history of Xandar was later retconned making the NovaCorps an intergalactic police force (first time I heard about it was in the Annihilation Prologue). There Xandarian powered Centurians were as plentiful as the grains of sand around beach front property. Also, the Centurian Prime .... or whoever that woman was who was also wearing Rich's uniform ... was more of an administrative position as opposed to a field general as depicted earlier.

Clearly the powers that be at Marvel will continue this backstory with Xandar being the HQ of a plice force. I would like to see a bit more on the origin of Xandar and the Nova Force though. I hope someone doesn't decide to retcon Xan dar into a former Kree colony like they did Zenn-La. I'm also with those who don't want to see the Corps come back any time soon if ever. If they do brong it back ... (you know they will .... many comic book writers are always tryin to redo the "glory" days of a characteer ... even if it's at the cost of the character's growth ... someone will also eventually depower Rich and put him back on Eearth in his old outfit and act like the current and possibly subsequent storylines never happened if they can .... but I digress ...) ... I'd like to see it become something far different than it's ever been ... none of that GL Corps clone stuff ... and give Rich a starship .... he needs a mobile base of operations ...

Don't they used to have the champions of Xandar with a bunch of xandarian superheroes having different powers ?

They used to, but I think that was two or three planetary apocalypses ago.

The New Warriors title was where the Nova Corp became an intergalactic peace force. Aliens were pulled in from other planets to serve. This occurred during the "Star Lost" storyline, where Richard lost and regained his powers. It was Rich who used his powers to bring Xandar back into existence. Some of the Nova Corp soldiers were then shown helping Rich out in the second Nova series.

The raggedy looking general in Prologue was a military leader. She was not Queen Adora. Queen Adora was not shown during Annihilation. She may have diedl, or she may have been elsewhere. She has died before, but was re-born during the "Star Lost" story. Xandarians have the ability to be brought back to life due to it's living computers or World Mind, which is in Richard.

And yes, I agree - Rich needs a starship. He can't keep flying around from place to place and have no base of operation.

The Champions were a haphazard band of heroes and villains who came together for the Xandarian-Skrull war. Nova, the Comet, Crime Buster, and one Syphon Warrior (who's name escapes me) were the heroes. Diamond Head, I think the Sphinx, and some guy with his brain in a fishbowl were the villains who were on the team. The Sphinx ended up using the power of the Living Computers to gain tremendous powers and grew to Galactus size. He then fought Galactus - and easily lost. Diamond Head betrayed Xandar and was then knocked into the void of space by Richard.
