This is quite a shocking tragedy. Apparently it may have had something to do with match-fixing, although I wonder if it wasn't just punishment for his team losing, like the murder of Andres Escobar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andres Escobar).

(And by the way, this is a single case, and therefore statistically insignificant. In my opinion, this incident should not be taken as proof of any generalizations or stereotypes about the Pakistani people or their religion.)

The thread title is inaccurate -- he was English, not Pakistani. Sorry.

I've been following this whole thing from the start. It's kind of shocking to me. I mean it's cricket...but then I remembered the kind of money that rides on these matches in the sub-continent. It's scary.

Possibly because they are all possible targets.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I saw this on BBC, really shocking.
Apparently rumours in the press was that a betting syndicate who lost alot of money when Pakistan lost to Ireland was behind this. Although some crazy fan who couldn't take his team losing also possible

They have all been questioned and the team's manager is angry that no reason has yet been given for why.

I learned about this when it first came out. Sad news indeed-- and I hope that they find out who did it.

do they need a reason?
if someone in your team has been murdered i would try and help as much as possible, i wouldnt care about being questioned. After all the murder took place in their hotel, obviously they would be the first to be questioned along with the hotel staff and security
