These new residents are allowed to live in his now former mansions for 10 years, free of rent. All they need to pay are utilities.

It's nice to see some good in the news again. Too bad one has to really dig through the journalistic sewage in order to find it.

That's great, but it says right in the title of the article that it was a Japanese millionaire.

First...wow and wow for the guy's largesse and the wonderful gift of homes to these folks.
Second...yikes. It takes a lot to run a mansion, even the utilities. I didn't do much research on this gift of homes but I do know that in the past, gifts of large homes to otherwise impoverished people don't work out.
I wish everyone involved the best.

This is going to work out badly I would think. Not a supersmart idea.

Instead pay for an education or give them a job something that would give them the means to support themselves and a future.

maybe I always look for the downside of things, but someone should check out that millionaire and what they did to make those millions. rich people usually don't do good things without something in return, that's why they're rich. if he got like his money by polluting a thrid-world country town's rivers with toxins while using slave labor to make cheap tee shirts, well, then.....
