Woo-hoo...that was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to it. Wolvie, Domino, Scott, Quicksilver, Rogue and the new(er) recruits look pretty good. (Plus, badass Foo Fighters inclusion made it much more like a movie trailer).

I've been thinking the comics should take this direction since around the time of the X-Men: TAS finale.

Nobody noticed the Soundgarden song on the soundtrack for this, either? It's "Fresh Tendrils", track #12 on the Superunknown album.

That's some moody-*ss grunge from back in the day.

I thought the trailer was kinda chessy, or mabe it was the song, The good news this is an Alternate Future where Wolverine carries the dream of Charles Xavier, still it seems as if they targeted the Telepaths and Jean was taken out as well :( ....... Its an Alternative X-men, Alternative Un iverse weeeee (sigh)

Every X-Men cartoon is an alternate universe.

The preview looks good. Though i have two points;

1. Its a shame this isn't closer to the canon source. Wolverine being the "leader" of the X-men just doesn't ring true.

Shove the canon, or in this case, the status quoe, as the X-Men comics have been reinventing itself for years and Logan's been built up as a leader figure in the movies, It'll likely be in a passive way here...nothing "official", just the voice of reason. This is about picking up the peices of a shattered team and telling them to kick ass with their misery.

i noticed. i guess most people just remember the mega-hit from that album.
i always liked day i tried to live best.

on topic, i am just glad that there will be new animated material i can zap into every now and then. hated the whole concept of evolution.
this seems much better, but how much can you expect from a cartoon format anyway when it is not explicitly targeted for adult viewers?

This seems like kind of an amalgam of the movie continuity (where Cyke went all mopey and depressed after Jean died and Wolverine and Storm had to take over the X-men) and the present-day comic book continuity (post-MC where there's no Xavier or Jean and Emma Frost is with Cyclops---sorry, Brian, but it's bound to happen since she's in the show).

Looks great to me. Something fun to watch with my daughter. I'm sure it will be cheesy to a certain degree, but do I care? Not a bit. It's a flippin' cartoon! Of course it will be cheesy.

While I'm pleased that they got back the voice actor who voiced Cyclops in the 90s animated series, I'm still not watching this on general principle - I've dropped all the comics that feature Emma Frost because I find her current incarnation (which I imagine the cartoon will be based off, since she's wearing her current costume) to be little more than an irritating plastic-boobed bint with all the wit, charm and self-possession of an Alsatian dog after a head-swap operation, so I will give her animated incarnation a wide berth as well...

So does this mean we can look forward to the following scene:

EMMA: Hello my name is Emma Frost.

SCOTT: Wow!

EMMA: Yes my breasts are impressive. Plastic, but impressive. Shall we take our clothes off here or would you prefer we do it outside on the spot where your girlfriend was vaporised?

SCOTT: Outside please!!

This new series looks GREAT despite the fact that Wolverine is going to be the main focus/leader in this series. WATXM seems to be one part present comic continuity, one part X-MEN EVOLUTION,one part X-MEN TAS,one part classic X-Men,one part new X-FORCE (which is being led by Wolverine),and one part X-MEN movies continuity.

I would have preferred if they had used a Linkin Park song. After all, there music seems to fit perfectly with sci-fi/superhero/action cartoons. Just check out some of those fan made animated music videos if you don't believe me.

I have to admit. I liked it when Cyke blasted Wolverine out of the building. In my mind, I was thinking "Owned!".

Also, does this remind anyone of the movies? Cyke going emo because of jeans death (which I don't mind. I though movie cyke was awesome)? Iceman being taken from his house by wolverine away from parents who don't like the fact that he's a mutant? Pyro starting off with the X-men? Both Xavier and Jean are Dead? It centers arounf Wolverine?

Yep. Definetly based off the movies. Don't get me wrong though. I think this trailer looked epic.

Well, the kid in the helicopter seems to start the fires by himself, while Pyro would need a lighter or something. Plus the kid looks like Rusty, and there is a Blonde girl in the background that could easily be Skids.

Also at 2:50 into the trailer you see a person made up of a cloud of somesort flying towards a jet. I'm thinking Amelia Voght or Dust maybe???

I thought that the blonde girl was Boom-Boom, since it seems this is somewhat a continuation of X-Men: Evo. And she was involved in that, but I would be very happy to see Skids in this cartoon :D

Wow I'm pretty excited about this new series from what I've seen so far. At first I had doubts just by the title and verbal description, and that it would turn out like the sappy & sugar coated "Evolutions" show. I like the character representation here, as well as the diversity. What I don't like is the animation style, mainly because it reminds me of Evolutions.

Now if Marvel could take note from the creators of Justice League Unlimited and redo an X-Men show to mirror those types of stand alone adventures, they might gain a little more popularity and earn some extra money... He'll, I'd even go as far as buying the box set.

I mean the continuity on those shows is so all over the place that if it were an X-Men version, it really wouldn't (and shouldn't) matter if the same X-Men, New X-Men, X-Force members were all on the same team. Just like the JLA space station, the mansion is an obvious choice for their base of operation and deployment of X-characters... Just imagine, seeing Wolverine & X-Force detaining Sabertooth in the background while Scott is in the forefront talking to Beast, Angel and Iceman about a mission totally unrelated. Then you'd have other characters from various teams in the background interacting. Maybe with nods to what they might do in the comics.

Which is why the characters need to grow with maturity and evolve with self awareness...

You don't see the Teen Titans show doing any better than when it first hit the scene. I think the entire concept probably would have worked better with the New X-Men, using the same manga animation style.

Nicktoons Network and Marvel Entertainment Join Forces to Bring Animated Adventures of Wolverine and Iron Man to Television

NEW YORK, March 18 --Nicktoons Network, Nickelodeon's 24-hour animation channel, has joined forces with Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL), to bring iconic heroes Wolverine and Iron Man from the page and big screen to television in two brand-new animated series, "Iron Man: The Animated Series" (a co-production with French based Method Films) and "Wolverine and the X-Men" (a co-production with Toonz Entertainment Pte Ltd., Singapore and First Serve International Ltd.). Debuting exclusively on Nicktoons Network in first quarter 2009, Wolverine and the X-Men and Iron Man each feature 26 action-packed, half-hour episodes that follow the respective heroes through dynamic action, adventure and drama as they face foes both familiar and new to their fans.

The story begins as an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, Professor X. The beaten heroes, including Beast, Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler, walk away from it all but then they are given a rare glimpse into the future, where they see a world in utter ruin ... ruled by giant destructive robots. They discover the world has spiraled out of control because the X-Men have given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men, Wolverine, must take the lead on the ultimate mission -- to prevent the world's destruction -- while fending off enemies Magneto and The Brotherhood.

Yeah...she's still in it (which is great 'cause the voice actress is a good one...same one who does Batgirl in "The Batman"). I just chalk the poster change up to Iceman's higher levels of recognition (especially at a quick visual glance since he's more unique when it comes to image...frozen blue man vs a girl with a standard kind-of-blah X-costume).

I gotta say, I have somewhat of a problem with the use of the LEGENDARY word.

I like Logan. B**ch can be many things.

But LEGENDARY is just ridiculous.

Jean is Legendary. Maybe she should be the main character that brings them all back together and leads the team.

"Jean Grey And the X-Men"

I'd watch that show!!!

You know what the funny thing is?

Had someone asked which X-Men were legendary I would've said Jean and 'Ro. No joke.

Of course I'd mean it in the sense that they don't really fit the original x-men motif anymore, but still...

Was just saying 'Ro and Jean are sooooooo beyond the average Children of the Atom. They're the poster for something completely different. Something much greater power-wise.

They should tag-team and beat up the likes of Galactus or something.

Or make out in the WHR and THEN go beat up the likes of Galactus or something.

Whatever.

Healing factor/nearly indestructibe = instant disqualification.

Legendary HEROES are the ones that can, ya know, DIE.

Legendary VILLAINS are the ones that can't.

Simple, really.

Dictionary.com disagrees with you. And American Heritage dictionary specifies:

leg·en·dar·y (lěj'ən-děr'ē) Pronunciation Key
adj.

1. Of, constituting, based on, or of the nature of a legend.
2.
1. Celebrated in legend.
2. Extremely well known; famous or renowned. See Usage Note at legend.

Le sigh.

I *know* it's an accepted usage of the word.

I'm just analyzing it within the context of the Good vs Evil feud. Or, say, what can be seen as a disgrace to actual legends. :p

And, damnit, legendary is waaayyy too !fab! for the clawed runt. At least throw me a friggin bone here.

Swashbuckling Kurt is more legendary than Logan. And I like Logan bunches.

Logan is a legend in the world of comic books. Deal.

Epic heroes die. The term 'legendary heroes' often comes with the connotation that the hero may or may not exist (the connotation of 'legend' is similar to the word 'myth'), and when the hero is used/met/seen, it's a big happy surprise that they've come to save the day. The 'legendary hero' is often a household name. Epic heroes are categorized as brave heroes who overcome a lifelong, world-wide journey and all the obstacles that journey entails - and the epic hero typically has a 'tragic downfall'. Just thought I'd clear that up with info from my English Lit course.

Comic fans seem to have really grown tired of Wolverine over the years (myself included), but all that being said, I think Wolverine will - in the future - be called a legend. He's too in-your-face/shoved-down-our-throats to be called a legend, today, even if we were speaking as if we were in 616 continuity ourselves. But when he actually BECOMES elusive (as opposed to just pretending he is while being everywhere at once) - then he can probably be called a legendary hero.

rwsmith
03-21-2008, 01:00 PM
Yeah, comic fans are really tired of him. That's why Marvel keeps putting out books with him in them and they keep selling so well.

When are you people going to learn that our little microcosm here on the CBR message boards (or any message board for that matter) does not represent the views (or buying habits) of comic fandom at large?

I'm a bit more bored with the rest of the All New, All Different! X-Men more than Wolverine, personally.

They just haven't had anything interesting going on in a while except for being these iconic figures IMO.

Though Piotr has been oddly funny in his special stiff way! Hug David!

I'm sick of damn Britney Spears. Everyone I know also says that they are sick of her. But can I honestly say that everyone is sick of her? Of course not, otherwise people would stop picking up every trashy tabloid with her in it and stop reading celebrity blogs where all they do is talk about her.

For me to say that everyone is sick of Britney would simply be wishful thinking on my part. Kind of like all of the Wolverine haters out there.

These words of wisdom are brought to you by the poster known as "rwsmith." Have a great Easter weekend. :p

My guess: They replaced her because there is already two girls on the poster. And because she was pretty generic looking compared to everyone else. Everyone else has something in their appearance that really pops!

That was my immediate reaction too, since they're lacking a young guy in the cast shot - the fun, joking teen character that's going to appeal to their target demographic. Unfortunately, there's also the attitude with marketing idiots that too many female characters will drive away boys from watching cartoons.

Plus there's no visual hook to her appearance. Unlike everyone else on the poster.

Iceman is WAY too blue! I hate when they do that, like in the Last Stand and the X-Men Legends/Ultimate Alliance games.

I know ice can be blue in the ocean and stuff but generally ice/frost is clear or frosty white! Blue highlights fair enough, but he looks more like an electric man there. The darker blue costume and in his hair is even worse. He looks like Bengali from the Thundercats.

Everyone that knows me, online and off, knows that complaining is what I do! :p

But it's not like I complain for the sake of complaining, like, I didn't look at the image and think..."hmmm...what's not quite right? Oh, I know Iceman is a bit blue!"

Literally, it's the first thing I noticed about him and it bugged the hell out of me! I can't help it! Things just bug me! Ask Andy about Smash Bros Brawl and the indicators above the characters heads...LOL!

Perhaps he'll be more translucent or lowered opacity in showtime (like the treatment Rogue's hair streaks received).

Apparently, it's coming to the UK this year. I was under the impression that it didn't air in the US until next year. Has this changed, 'cos I would have thought that it would air first in the states (not that I'm complaining given that I live in the UK lol)

No way, the lineup is heinous. It should be:

Scarlet Witch -> Mastermind

Polaris probably isn't considered part of either team.
