View Full Version : "The Capekillers"
Red State Cap

I have a question for the people who read all of Civil War including the tie-ins:
Did the SHIELD "Capekiller" unit ever actually kill any capes?
As far as I know the answer is no, but I only browsed the main title and a couple of tie-ins.
Thanks,

I assume the name was for terror purposes only. As far as I'm aware, there were only a few superhuman casualties anyway, and none of them wore capes. Or were killed by Capekillers.
In fact the Capekillers primary purpose was to have their asses kicked.

Considering capes aren't living entities, no.

OK, obviously the term "cape" here is Marvel's cutesy new word for "superhero," and obviously they are fictional characters, not living beings.
I already knew that there had been a couple dozen superhero ("cape") deaths, but I want to confirm that none of these was a result of SHIELD's "capekillers."
Anyone else have anything to add?

There was something in Frontline... I forget the issue though. Sally Floyd went to a secret meeting with a bunch of C-List superheroes who were on the run. During the meeting the capekillers blew a hole in the wall and started a fight. I think someone may of died in the explosion.
Anyone know what issue I'm talking about? I want to say somewhere about 6-8.

Marvel Spotlight - Aftermath has a section on the casualties.
They list about twenty or so deaths, what issue and how they were killed.
Sorry, I didn't read all of them, but at least it's a starting point.

I didn't even think they were officially called that. I thought it was simply anti reg slang. The only wholesale murder I've seen them involved in was when Venom killed, I think, 8 of them. Now they back him up in battle. Capekillers are actually rather easygoing fellows based on that.

Yeah but I don't think any died, at least none were on the casuality list or mentioned in the series, so I doubt it.
There were a FEW isolated occasions where the Cape killers TRIED to kill a few capes (such as in Young Avengers/Runaways), but I don't think they actually suceeded.
Nor should we expect them to be able to. SHIELD agents are like ninjas... they're cannon fodder. Reasonably competent heroes can plow through them like dry leaves in the fall.

Wrong. It was confirmed in interviews by Tom Brevoort et al that the unit was specifically called "The Capekillers."

That's a great concept and very cool word to describe the SHIELD agents specifically dealing with th SHRA!

Not really if the government wants to convince heroes to register, they are not doing themselves any favours by giving their agents names that will be seen threatening and aggressive by heroes, that will make the anti reg heroes more likely to fight and less likely switch sides. Something impressive, but less threatening would have worked better. Using "Capekillers" in this case, is about as smart as the government sending agents who dress like Klansmen to defuse a race riot.

And WHAT about the MU is smart right now? If you added the realism of the comics to the smarts and wit of the writers you would have enough competence to die falling asleep in the middle of the freeway.
And who besides Thor is a major "public icon" character that wears a cape in the MU?

Vision, Nighthawk, and Dr. Strange, just off the top of my head.

Then that is just genuis. It's like the NYPD renaming the Traffic Enforcement Division to "Stop a brotha driving dept" or the ESU to "Murdering people for nothing unit"

I like the cape killers, mostly because they are fodder for the modern age. Gives the poor sobs at Hydra and the Hand a break every now and then.

Well it just said in Battle Damage Report that it was a derogatory term used for the Superhuman Restraint Unit (which has always been it's official name).

I don't think the capekillers killed anybody. Hit it on the nose when saying "they are cannon fodder."
Sentry also wears a cape...and despite what all the haters will tell you, I'd say he's a pretty big part of the marvel u right now.

I've been laughing at how this concept has been handled since almost the begining.
Tony Stark "gives" the gov the plans for the capekiller armor. However the gov. is "paying" him to make the armor for Shield, we are talking at least thousands of suits. (ka-ching) The so-called capekillers need dozens of soliders just to capture street level heros if they are lucky. Even then the the armor takes a massive beating which need to be repaired. (ka-ching) Eventually the gov will want a better suit to handle more powerfull superheros, who will they turn to?(ka-ching)
The bottom line as far as I'm concerned is: Tony Stark has been building the most powerful suits of armor for years now. Capable of going toe to toe with some of the most powerful beings in the world and he give the gov these cheap peices of sh!t!?! He is either milking them for all they're worth or playing a joke on them.

I blame Tony Stark for the death of every government agent dressed in inadequite power armor.

Tony didn't personally design the Capekiller armour. It was developed by that guy from the Iron Man issue of New Avengers who used to work for Stark. Apart from his inexplicable ability to override the IM suit, he seemed like kind of an idiot.

Still, if someone hires you to do a job, and you delegate it to one of your subordinates, whenever something goes wrong they wont blame and yell at your subordinate, it goes straight to yo and all the responsibility lies on your shoulders, since you took the decision to give te sub that job.

CapeKillers are canon fodder....unless you need a room full of z-characters taken down...or the Young Avengers...

He is still getting/taking all the credit tho!
