View Full Version : Marvel A.D. - After Decimation: Who We've Lost...

The topic came up in X-Cres about the firmly established 198 number. Originally we heard that it was a rough estimate, but Mike Carey recently confirmed the number and indicated that the reason for those individuals being saved would be addressed in the upcoming X-Men: Endangered Species. Of course, that means that we've managed to start cutting down the numbers already thanks to deaths that have occured post Decimation.

So as a quasi tie-in to Zombie Northstar's Decimation month, I thought a thread on who we've lost would be an interesting idea. Of course, more are sure to fall. At least with the gear up for the big X-Event. :)

Confirmed Casulties
Banshee - (Killed by Vulcan in Deadly Genesis #2)
Damien Tryp II - (Killed by Dupe in X-Factor #12)
Danien Tryp III - (Killed by Dupe in X-Factor #12)
Icarus - (Killed by Reverand Stryker in New X-Men #27)
Jazz - (Killed by Johnny Dee in X-Men: The 198 #3)
Microbe - (Killed in Stamford Blast in Civil War #1)
Mammomax - (Killed by Predator X in New X-Men #33)
Namorita - (Killed in Stamford Blast in Civil War #1)
Ned Horrocks - (Killed by the Foursaken in Uncanny X-Men #474)
Puck II - (Killed by Collective in New Avengers #16)
Quill - (Killed by Stryker's Purifiers in New X-Men #27)
Wallflower - (Killed by Stryker's Purifiers in New X-Men #26)

Presumed Deceased
Ghoul - (Presumed killed in Generation M #5)
Gibbon - (Presumed killed in Punisher War Journel #4)
Jamie Braddock - (Sacrificed himself in Uncanny X-Men #474)
Mr. M - (Deceased or Evolved in X-Men: The 198 #5)

So we're down to somewhere between 186 and 182. Rough being a mutant.
So anyone that anyone misses? That they'd like to see brought back.
By the way, any corrections... please point them out. A lot I had to dig for. :)

Damien Tryp isn't a mutant.

Well, I didn't know a lot of them, but I'd say I miss Banshee. It was a pointless death and a good character.

I do NOT miss Mammomax.

Damien Tryp isn't a mutant.
Just cause they said they're "Genetic Throwbacks" doesn't mean they're not mutants.

Just like Jamie Madrox is still a mutant, even though they said he may be one.

if the stepford cuckoos count as mutants you can add 1,000 or so of them to the deceased list.

gazer is dead. i believe he was a mutant.

Gazer was depowered. That's why he was dying until he became War.

Namorita isn't a mutant; she's a clone.

Hmm, Marvel has her listed as a mutant.

Apperantly she was confirmed one and powered in New Warriors #5 (2006)

i think shes a mutant because shes an atlantean with winged feet, same way Namor is considered a mutant, and just because she is a clone doesnt really mean anything, X23 is a clone

Exactly, and X-23 is a mutant. Hence why Namorita is classed as one.

I want a list of the 198. It was my understanding when the concept was created that they missed some mutants.

A pile of mutant ashes. Regardless, the true Namora is back. Who is much cooler. :D

My heart is big enough for both of them.

I don't think Jamie Braddock counts, since he didn't "wink" into existence until just recently. I consider him as somebody who is outside of the limits of space and time. He's part of the Omniverse, so he really shouldn't be considered, even if he's a Braddock/mutant.

(I also don't believe he's dead. But since that storyline never saw its proper end, we'll never know)

Jamie Braddock counts. He was confirmed powered in the X-Men: The 198 Handbook. :)

I'm a little fuzzy on something. Would the three Damien Tryps counts as three separate mutants? If so, are we counting John Maddox as a mutant separate from Jamie Madrox?

Good question. I think only Jamie prime would count, because the dupes don't dupe. ;)

The dupes can dupe.

Actually, since his powers went "wonky", I think they do.

Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to crush all the HYDRA agents (I got the right organization this time right? :p) to death in their ebil secret headquarters. (Was it X-Factor 14?) Jamie made dupes that made dupes which made more dupes, and so all the mad scientist people went smashy!

The back cover of that 198 book accounts for 128 mutants, so that leaves 70more mutants for wiggle room. I remember that reading that handbook and wondering, why was Rogue considered more of a threat (she was marked red/severe) than Cyclops or some other people... But now with Mike Carey on, now we know. :D

Thanks. :) What about Tryp? Aren't two of them dupes (leaving one Tryp to be the original) as well, or am I misunderstanding that?

More actually: The Collective Man are 5 mutant brothers and the Stepford Cuckoos are three girls. Plus Namor the Sub-Mariner isn't on the list.

Oh so if they're a hybrid of something their classed as a mutant? is that why the half human half merpeople people are classes as mutant?

Yeas, he either got shot in the head or had his wings cut out or got gangraped and strangled in a dark alley or something like that.
