I would actually vote both. I just don't know how well the Yea Varilies and Forsooths would go down in Mainstream Today moviewise. I think they would probably have to update the Thorspeak for today.

Thor's already had a series that ran to 500+ issues. I think that proves he can hold a series. A movie would require an update and modernization of the character though.

I am a huge Thor fan. When done well (Kirby, Simonson, some Thomas, Wein, and even DeFalco [early on]), Thor can be a fantastic book, everything I want from a superhero comic and then some. When done poorly, Thor is just awful, everything that non-readers assume comics are about. I haven't enjoyed much from JMS (Supreme Power, really), but hold out hope that he might be able to claim some of the old magic.
As far as movie, no. Not a chance.

Fairly sure his new book that's coming out is going to be a revamp considering it's been years since Disassembled. His look has already been altered from what we've seen with the Odin Force/Power/Whatever Thor and the classic Thor to one that's a bit toned down in a set of chain mail.

I'm hoping JMS knocks this one outta the park myself. And I agree when Thor is good, it's a great read but when it's not (and that unfortunately is more often than not) it can be boring and trite as all hell.
I kinda wish the new book was released a little later though, it's starting off right in the middle of WWH and the opening arcs of a bunch of different Avenger-based books. While I'm sure a #1 issue will sell great, I just hope it doesn't get lost in the crowd...

Don't be silly... Gene Simmons isn't a God... he's a Mutant.

JMS is hit and miss. When he's hit, as he is for most of his Spidey run, it's phenomenal and this Thor should be a sight to see.
If it's the JMS we saw on FF.... I'll be VERY disappointed after so much buildup.
what puts me off thor comics is his language lol
you kno like... "ye be in thor wayeth, now be gone yon hither"

Eh not really. Ares usually talks pretty normal but he might throw out occasional old world speak.

Basicly all of the above except for the movie thing. He should have his own ongoing with some scattered mini's around. I think maybe an animated movie would be good for him, but I don't think he is popular enough to get the draw for a movie. At least not for the scope of a movie that would be required to make a good movie.

I disagree. Look at 300, I'm sure many didnt know much about that historical battle and it crushed at the box office. Just adapt Simonson's run and bam: 100 million box office + 200 million worldwide, easy. Getting the right actors and director won't hurt either.
You wouldnt have to know anything about Thor. All you need is Thor vs his half-brother Loki, Sif, the Warriors 3, Balder, Valkyries, BRB (hells yeah), fire demons, the midgard serpent, the Rainbow Bridge, Ragnarok, giants, Fenris wolf, Twilight flame sword, NYC, and one big badass hammer cracking skulls.
No, nothing there that would make a good movie,

300 worked because it was like the Alamo. It's a tale human badassery against overwhelming odds.

Actually, a bunch of that might be a little dense for a single film. Especially at once. Especially with Beta Ray Bill.
Seriously though, while you might be able to adapt some of Simonson's run into a story, it'd make for a lousy movie. It was basically a deconstruction of Thor, but without the construction of the mythos to begin with, you're missing too much of the puzzle.

A new thor series is on the horizon (comic) and I like Thor for the most part. I was lucky enough to grow up on the Simonson run, even enjoyed Frenz for a while. I think he can hold his own series again, there's a strong enough fan base for the odinson.
I wouldn't go for a movie though. I think of Marvel Thor as a fish out of water Norse God on modern man's Earth. I can only see it being cheesie like the Schwarzenegger Hercules movie. I know that it can be well written, but my expectations are ruined by Hercules in the early 80s. Not to mention the Return of the Hulk TV movie, but Blake was more annoying than Thor in that adaptaion.
