Don't know. I suspect it was something the editor's collectively came up with when they decided to remove Cass from the Batclan.

Was she ever in it to begin with?

Functionally? Yes, she was. In spirit? No, not really. Brubaker seems to have been the only non Batgirl writer willing to acknowledge her in any important way.

I think the supposition is that it was Didio, but I'm not sure he ever owned up to it. He's pretty much the "buck stops here" person at DC editorial right now, though.

Since the turn happened while Johns was one of the idea men at DC, and since the storyline was continued up in Titans East, it's possible he had a hand in it as well.

We don't know for sure, but certainly Berganza was heavily involved, since he was supposed to take over Robin as editor and had already prepared the OYL stuff, Tomasi only replaced him last minute.
In case you don't know, Berganza also edits Supergirl and Titans: Everywhere Cass has shown up since OYL.

And you're missing the important third question,
Who's going to bring the pitchforks and torches?
DiDio fessed up to the Nightwing fiasco himself. Winick is clearly behind the Jason Todd BS. Not so clear on who was behind the Batgirl mess.
Anyway, I'm glad that is finally getting cleaned up. Slowly, but finally.

I kinda did.
I know, I know, I liked Cass for a long time as a hero, and maybe probably will again, but I prefer that the best pure fighter, smartest scientist, or most powerful being, in comics be a bad guy. I think everything is much more interesting that way.

gotta be a plot by mark millar to mess with DC.
he slipped "turn your cult characters evil to divide readers reactions to your editorial staff" sumbliminals in their music devices.

If we did, don't you think we woulda swamped him with massive amounts of hate mail and death threats?
Er, I mean....flowers and rainbows
Note, reschedule the hate mail and death threats

I know you're kidding, but be careful here. Some people take that sort of thing very seriously.

Yeah, letīs not get carried away.
This is just comicbooks, not the ending of civilization as we know it (not that I have anything against the end of civilization as we know it if it meant the beginning of a better one ;) ).

One where Batgirl is written by Judd Winnick and drawn by Rob Liefeld. Ok that was too much.. alright the real team we're hoping for Gail Simone or Andersen again and Pop Mhan :D

That would be a dream come true.
Won't be Gail, she's to busy (re: latest BoP Newsarama interview). That's why she hasn't been able to do a Secret Six ongoing.
But I'd love for her to write Batgirl regularly someday...either in BoP or her own series.

It's not impossible. He did personally ask Beechen to continue Titans East. He's also part of the 52 team that's introducing Batwoman, and he's admitted that he thinks Barbara Gordon is the one true Batgirl. I can see him wanting Cass out of the way.

As that is true from his stand point. Babs has moved on, and that is that.
