It's rare that a comic will leave you smiling once you're done reading it. Especially in today's era of comics where so many books are mired in darkness and angst. Jeff Parker coupled with Roger Cruz's energetic pencils deliver a fun story without feeling hokey that reminds one of the classic X-Men stories. While I won't do a detailed recap, I'll cover the main story points. Sorry, the book is just too much fun to distill down into relating every event that occurs. Besides, I'm trying to get you to buy the story. So why would I want to spell everything out for you.
The Intro page which has been used in previous issues to show insight into what the various characters feel about each other takes an amusing turn in this one. It's a Semester Report from Cerebro about each one of the O5 X-Men. Poor Bobby, the only nice thing it has to say is that he has perfect attendance.
Professor Xavier's away from the mansion, and the X-Men are attending class. All but Warren, who's missing. Suddenly a sonic boom shatteres the windows, and the X-Men jump into action. The cause of the sonic boom, the former member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants... Quicksilver. After the X-Men ingeniously capture him, they find that he's in search of his missing sister. The X-Men let him go to continue his search, while heading down to the still under construction Cerebro chamber to try to find Warren. Suspecting that perhaps the Scarlet Witch may have Angel under her control. BTW... cute touch, petrafied Mastermind!
Beast shows-off by managing to hack Cerebro, much to everyone's surprise, allowing them to scan for Warren and locate him. They locate him with the Scarlet Witch. That's when Jean and the others put it all together, and makes Hank come clean with the fact that he hacked Cerebro before. To help Warren locate Scarlet Witch because he wanted to meet her again. Hank assures them that Warren isn't in danger. And that that's where Warren's been slipping away to so much recently. Of course, the X-Teens worry that once Quicksilver finds them there could be trouble and set off in hopes to beat Pietro to locating them.
Meanwhile Wanda and Warren have been flying together, and decide that after four dates that it's time to share their real names. They land by Warren's car and he asks if she wants to see a movie. Warren anticipated their need to hide their costumes, so bought the both of them a pair of trenchcoats. Wanda freaks out a bit at the fact that her's cost $1,000 and Warren, rich boy that he is, seems clueless if that's a lot of money.
Eventually Quicksilver catches up with them at a playground, and a fight begins. The over-protective Pietro attacks Warren, ripping his coat off and flinging him into a slide. Wanda tries to talk her brother down, but he's unwilling to listen and Wanda tosses a Hex. Unfortunatly her hex destroys the jungle gym, and puts kids in danger. The X-Men and Quicksilver save the kids, and after some lecturing by Jean... Pietro cools off.
Unfortunatly the jungle gym is trashed and the teacher is ticked off. Warren offers to pay for the replacement, but that still leaves the kids without something to play on for a while. And here's where Bobby comes to the rescue, as he creates a playland of snow and ice for the kids. And the X-Men, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and the kids join in a snowball fight. Yeah, it's a light-hearted ending. But I dare you not to smile. :)
