I just don't understand it anymore. Check out June's solicitatations:

http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=10058

IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN is getting a digest-sized trade paperback. I can understand not giving it a premier edition HC, but digest-sized? This isn't really a book for the kiddies, Marvel, which is what those digests usually are. hunh.

And Alan Davis' KILLRAVEN mini-series gets a premiere edition HC, too. Nice! Will Davis NEVER get an oversized collection, beyond AVENGERS? ::sigh::

Jeff Parker's X-MEN FIRST CLASS gets an oversized hardcover collection. Whuu ?!? I would have thought trade paperback, at best, if not a digest sized trade. Weird.

But, hey, F4 OMNIBUS ! Does this mean we might see UNCANNY X-MEN OMNIBUS 2 this year yet, too? (Not that I ever got around to buying 1, mind you, but I like the IDEA of it. . . )

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that we'll see an oversized HC solicitation for the next volume of Ultimate Spider-Man soon. I'm not down with the Premiere edition HC of the Clone Saga that was solicited a couple of months ago.

Maybe they figure if they make it cheaper, more people will take a chance on trying the series, and then they can do a nice HC later.

Or perhaps it befits the character's size and stature within the Marvel Universe. :)

According to Amazon, Vol. 8 collection TPBs 15 and 16 will be out April 11.

Sorry for the confusion, I know about this one. I was referring to the fact that Marvel solicited the Clone Saga in a Premiere Edition and am wondering if this is going to replace the current format. I was hoping that something would pop up on Amazon.com, but nothing yet.

Well it works. It instantly went onto my list when I saw the price. Page size doesn't really bother me. I'd be happy if all comics were reprinted in digest size - except for the really busy stuff like Top 10 where it needs the size to breath.

Also regarding Killraven - I don't think the existence of a premier hardcover rules out an eventual oversized one. As far as I can tell they tend to come out after the TPB.

Generally speaking, Premiere Editions happen in lieu of, not anticipation of, oversized hardcovers. I doubt a book like KILLRAVEN would merit the additional release, anyway. They're probably only putting it out now to capitalize on the F4: THE END collection or something. . .

Unless Marvel is trying to prime the pump for another run at the character later this year?

Yeah - in the case of Killraven you're probably right

This is weird. So, when in doubt - BUY THE ISSUES! At least you know what you're getting. I'm just glad the Punisher HC's are still the same format.

That's one option. Personally I take the approach of "if it doesn't come out in TPB there'll always be more stuff I want that does than I can afford"

HA! I like it! And you are 100% correct too.

Wanna know something sad? My friend is looking for a SIMONSON VISIONARIES: THOR Vol. 2 (there's a #3 too, but it's super hard to find - even I don't have it) and they are selling for over $90 on Amazon and over $75 on ebay! INSANE!!!

I think they are planning on reprinting these when the new Thor title is out, but isn't this insanity? You can get the issues cheaper for that $hit!

I have those THOR trades sitting unread in a box in storage. Hmmmm. . .

I remember a shop in Arlington, NJ selling those for ten bucks about two years back -- vol.2 and vol.3, he had five of each. Guess what - they were there forever. Must be a niche thing. Nostaglia's a real cruel lady sometimes.

Funny story: Jonah (Weiland, Exec Producer of CBR) and I had a long chat with Erik Larsen and Chris Eliopoulos about that THOR era. Erik was the only one who had read them of the four of us, I believe. By the time he finished describing the stories, we were all ready to go straight home and pay whatever we needed to to get our hands on those issues or trades.

Sadly, I barely have enough time to read the week's regular comics these days without adding the archival material to the pile. Maybe soon. . .

I've actually got volume 3! I got it about a year back on eBay for not much (I know that because I wouldn't have paid much!).

Unfortunately I'm also waiting for volume 2 to turn up. One thing I've grown to know over the last several years is that these things always turn up for a decent price in the end - Except for the really exceptional cases (like Elseworlds 80 page Giant, Zenith, Miracleman etc...) and I don't think it's one of those.

Nah - I'm not interested in floppy things that I have to store in bags in a box in my loft. I'm interested in books that I can keep on my bookshelf and hold a good amount of story.

You write a comic book column and you've never read Simonson's Thor?

Seriously?

Wow - I really must have greatly overestimated the importance of that run.

Please tell me you've read Miller's Daredevil and Byrne's FF?

Ha! Last I remember hearing Augie say was that he hadn't got around to reading the Miller Daredevil yet.

I've only read volume 1 of Simonson's Thor, but based on that I'd have to say Daredevil needs to come first!

Byrne's FF hasn't appealed to me so much. I read the Trial of Galactus TPB and was underwhelmed

I've read NONE of the books listed in Dan's last message.

Well, I've read one or two issues of Byrne's F4, but that's it. Not even TRIAL OF GALACTUS.

Byrne's FF issues are awesome! Especially anything that had to so with Dr. Doom. That's the time when he was almost a 5th character in the book and the whole thing with Kristoff happened.

Augie - You really NEED to read at least 1 of these runs! I'd agree w/ DD being 1st, but Frank didn't start writing until #168 w/ the 1st Elektra which kicks off Vol 2. However it's something to see his progression build to that point.

Simonson's THOR is addictive and fun. You'll read it and be like, "Oh! This is what people have been stealing from!" :)
