Story set 200 years from the end of the original manga (or DBZ anime), Akira Toriyama is designing new characters.

Haha! The story may not continue in the form of a new Anime series afterall!

First of all, its not yet clear if it'll be ever released for the US (but most likely will, this is massive!), its in development and will take till mid 2008 to release.

That's probably going to be the only MMORPG allowing players to blow up the world every year..

Excellent. This is the best thing since DBZ HOOD was anounced.

It's hard for me to say this without insulting someone, but i'm going to try.
All the Dragonball fans in this thread seem like nice, rational people.
Having said that, it's going to be great for an asston of jerkwad 13 year olds leave the mmo i'm playing at the time to go make a saiyan.

LOL@ that but still, I'd play this over WOW or whatever.

Its easier to get a rise out of a 13 year old weeaboo with a Hidden Leaf headband when you PK/camp him than it is some 40 year old guy with a mortgage.

Sound decent.

I mean, it's a welcome change to playing the Cell Games for the 50th time.

Akira Toriyama is incharge of Character Designs and Storyline :

Akira Toriyama will not only be in charge of the character designs (like we mentioned previously), but over the story itself. Player's will be put into an authentic Dragonball world fully designed by Akira Toriyama.

Namco Bandai the official Publisher, that means 90% confirmed this will come to English speaking countries. This may charge no monthly fees.

Now I'm really starting to think how this will go. Toriyama will probably ignore GT, and write a new storyline after the ending of DBZ. And if the story really develops enough (like new SSJ levels), something in me tells we could have a struggle for a new DB anime series based on the MMORPG settings :D

Ugh, anime games have never been any good. And I do not think an anime adapted mmo will be any better then the fighting games they come out with.

To be honest I will probably not get into that game. Mainly because I've been annoyed by the fact that few people seem to actually do any role-plaing in MMORPGs.

Also many online forms and games I've played have several people using names like Super Sayien13, Goku47, Vegeta 249.... Can you imagine how bad this would be in a DragonBall game?

hopefully they'll put a filter on so kids can't use names containing any of that kinda crap. that might even weed out some of the ...less creative people that just couldn't think of a name or got PISSED when they couldn't be SSJ1337Goku or whatever

Unoriginality in people's domain names is why we rarely talk about MMORPGs in the first place.

We must have a filter that blocks people from putting in certain words in their names... like virtually every major Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z character.

params7: the first Translated link in your first post--the "translated" wording is hilarious :)

Anime-based MMO's (based on series, not just anime-styled) have always been a fantasy of mine. That said, I've always preferred the original DB over any other version. So if you see a little kitty or bear with a fist-full of dyna-caps and NO fighting experience--that'll be me. Feel free to send a Saiyan blast my way, I won't get offended!

Alex: I think you're right! :)

I can see him writing/drawing in the studio going to himself: "It's not really Dragonball, it's not really Dragonball..."

I kinda feel sorry for the guy, though. To have one of your own creations pushed on you until you start to dislike it, then have to work on it over and over again.

I suppose this makes a certain amount of sense. DBZ has fighting tournaments and power levels built in, and would have a semi-interesting take on dying and returning to life(as long as you don't have to walk Snake Way in real-time).

Of course, it won't be DBZ unless every fight is preceded by a mandatory thirty-minutes of gloating and trash-talking.

I can't imagine why they can't just come up with their own name.

Well, DarkWatch is a PS2 game and it's my gamertag. I'll probably be the only DarkWatch in the DBZverse. :p

With a name like that, I gotta make my character badass.

Coming up with a cool name for Dragonball wouldn't be hard. I mean, think about some of the villain names in the anime...king cold, cooler, cell, buu, baby.......

I would get it, but I would hope it would be for something like XBox 360. My computer sucks too much for it to work :(

I don't think it has ever been released for Xbox. It'll most likely be for Sony and maybe the Wii.

It does seem like something that might appear on PC before anything else. Really im not sure how I feel about a online DBZ game, after a few years of trying to get into online MUDs that revolve around concepts like DBZ/GT, you pretty much get the jist of it. It's not about role playing, it's gonna be about PK or PVP and since its a online game it's gonna be 90% farming in order to obtain powers/skills, instead of role playing oriented learning, and cooperation. Since they already showed different equipment I can only hope that equipment plays a small part if not no part at all in character power. Outside of training I think equipment in a DBZ game should be limited to commicators until you learn telepathy, flying cars/bikes until you can fly fast enough to make such forms of transportation unnecessary, telepods until teleporting becomes available, and maybe wrist blasters until ki attacks become available/you have enough power to do it without worry of depleting your ki pool. Since non of my ideas are gonna be in it, i doubt i'll really play it.. I'll just watch vids and pray that others enjoy themselves.

I wouldn't mind a Naruto online though especially since it's still an on going series.

Which I'm guessing that most of the fans will play as saiyans since everyone likes to be super saiyans. Second popular choice on being namekians.

unless they come up with balanced transformations or powerups for all races I doubt we'll be seeing any transformation besides Kaio-ken!

However let's say they do add Super Saiya-jin 1 - 4. I wonder if the female players (is there ever such a thing?) will be able to transform as well?

if the MUDs (Multi-User-Dungeons) are any indication of what races might be in the game eventually. We'll probably have
Saiya-jin
Halfbreeds (Saiya-jin/Human)
Humans
Nameksai-jin
Kai's
Mutants
Demi Humans
Androids

maybe but they'd more than likely be extinct or to evil. I mean I know the game won't follow DBZ/GT events accurately. We know this because technically it shouldn't be possibly to create a Saiya-jin since Goku and Vegeta were the only living ones left by the end of Z. Icers (a nick name by fans for Freeza/King Colds race) and I'm not 100% sure but I thought I heard something about King Cold or Freeza destroying their home world. I suppose you could try to bring the minor or one time appearance races into the games, like the Arleans, or any number of the races seen in the other world tournament. So maybe you're right, however It'd take some real creative thinking to balance out and come up with unique abilities that don't feel like copies of existing abilities. :)

For serious. Hopefully, they will make it harder than hell for Saiyan players to attain SSJ levels.

And about the fact that Goku and Vegeta were the only remaining Saiyans, they may explain in the ones in game as being humans with saiyan ancestory.Sort of like Pan.

To really get the setting to feel right, they'll have to force players to stay within DBZ character naming schemes. "We have deleted your character because his name wasn't a kind of underwear. Please try again."

Yeah, I've heard that one before. I don't advise getting your hopes up, WoW recently broke over 10 million players, no other mmorpg is even close.

As long as it's profitable enough so they don't pull the plug it doesn't matter if it beats any other game.

To be fair, the potential of the anime very rarely has anything to do with anime games sucking. Mostly it's the game companies banking on the fanboy's buying anything with their favorite anime's name on it.

That's true with nearly all liscensed games.
