New content coming for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Fans of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance will take comfort in knowing that new downloadable content is on its way. Back when the game released those who pre-ordered received a special invitation to the VIP section of the Ultimate Alliance website. The VIP community has since come to an end, but not without a thank you from global brand manager Daniel Jhung. In his thank you to the community, Jhung hints at upcoming downloadable content saying that they are "working on the release of some truly awesome Xbox Live downloadable content for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, scheduled for later this Spring". There you have it Marvel fans, mysterious downloadable content in a few months straight from Mr. Jhung himself.

I've bolded the names of the Heroes that we'll be getting.

I wouldn't count on Hulk and Punisher being in the DLC, as the rights to both are held by other companies. I'd say it's quite likely we'll end up with Namor, Cyclops, Iron Fist, and Hawkeye. That'd still be using the poll results...just disqualifying any heroes they can't get the rights to. Then again, maybe they'll surprise us and finagle something with the rights to be able to use the characters.

I'd say the villains listed above are a good guess, particularly Magneto and Venom (who weren't affiliated with the MoE in the game). I might be tempted to replace Doom and Mandarin with other characters that weren't in the main storyline of MUA though. Maybe Sabretooth and the Green Goblin or Sandman? (To tie in nicely with Spider-Man 3 on the latter two)

Though of course the easy route would be to take four villains that were already in the game, since less work would have to be done on the modelling/animation/etc....

Yes it's for the X-Box 360.

The other versions of the game will not get the DLC.

Activision Brings New Downloadable Content for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Addressing the VIP community of the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Activision’s global brand manager Daniel Jhung, thanking all the VIP community members that exists nowhere now, says that all the VIP members will be granted with completely new downloadable content by Spring season, the same time when Spider-Man 3 movie and videogame is making its debut.

The news is really reward to the game owners who had scored one via preorder. This mean that the downloadable content will be available only on Xbox Live since the game title was initially launched on Xbox360 following PS3 and Wii. All the next-gen consoles Xbox36, PS3 and Wii have online services namely Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Nintendo Wii-Fi Connection respectively that provides online downloading service.

Out of all three, 360 version owners’ luck is on a high since they will be the only gamers in several thousands to get new downloadable content.

So the countdown now..... and for sure the new downloadable content will be full of jaw-dropping action spree!

Gamedaily BIZ had an article about the DLC that was up for a bit before it suddenly was pulled off the site, luckily myself and several other people at Jinxworld message board saw the article and it reads as such.

Hulk strongest one there is!

Activision today announced its plans to release Marvel: Ultimate Alliance downloadable content on Xbox Live Marketplace with new heroes and villains. The eight new characters are the Incredible Hulk, Magneto, Hawkeye, Sabretooth, Doctor Doom, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Venom. The Hero Pack and Villain Pack will separately be 500 Microsoft points, the Combined Hero and Villain Pack will be 800 Microsoft points, and individual gamer pic packs will be 80 Microsoft points each.

"The signature gameplay of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance has made it a favorite among fans, as well as the best-selling Super Hero game on the Xbox 360 to-date," said Rob Kostich, vice president of global brand management, Activision. "By adding some of the biggest names in the Marvel Universe to the roster we're enabling Xbox 360 gamers to build a variety of all-new teams and enjoy the epic action in brand new ways."

Hmm, so if that article is true, the Hulk will be included but Punisher will not. Which makes sense, because I thought sequels were in the works for both games, but maybe it's just the Punisher that's currently getting the sequel.

I guess the "Doom" behind the whole plot is a rogue Doombot. ;)

Venom and Magneto are easy since they weren't part of the Masters of Evil in the game anyhow.

Nightcrawler's tricky though, given his storyline elements.

But then again, I'm guessing they probably won't bother trying to massage the storyline to fit the additions anyway. They'll just be "bonus characters."

Now I really hope they have "Doom 2099" and "AoA Magneto" costumes. ;)

Well that depends if they want to release any more DLC packs.

If they do decide to release some more DLC packs I would like to see these characters in it: Iron Fist, Nova, Sentry, Ant Man, The Punisher(If they could get the licensing situation sorted out) She-Hulk, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Black Cat, and Silver Sable.

Well this news sucks for me because I have the Wii version of the game. I would love to download some of those characters, especially Hawkeye and the Hulk.

No, the game can be played just like any other. There's the option to go online and play it multiplayer, though.

And to get the new characters, you have to go online to download them, however you can do that without actually having a paid subscription to X-Box Live (though you'll still have to buy the downloads with "Microsoft Points."

Wikipedia is claiming that the pack will be released tomorrow, the 17th. However, I cannot find any source verifying this. Even the official website has been quiet on the matter.

Edit: apparently, Gamestats.com has a release date of 4/30. Dunno who to believe at this point.

Then they'd be better off putting out "X-Men Legends 3" or maybe "Marvel Knights" and waiting for the rights to revert. Trying to call a game "Marvel Ultimate Alliance" without at least a couple of those characters is about as half-arsed as you can get.

Better yet, call it "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" since it seems like he'd be the only core Marvel (non-X) character in the game.

Though actually I think a Cosmic-Based/Annihilation game would be cool, if they want to go the "B and C lister" route.

Some of the licensing might be kind of wonky for the different games. EA handling Marvel Nemesis, for instance, Ghost Rider being published by 2k at the same time as being in MUA, etc. This line, "With Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor under its control, SEGA almost has enough Marvel pieces to create the Avengers. For now, comic-book fans will have to settle for four solo affairs," would seem to indicate that Sega only has the rights to creating solo games based on the characters. That still might allow Activision to publish a team-based affair.

Or not, but the article doesn't say either way.

Huge News for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance & Spider-Man 3!

Hey Friends!

We've got some excellent Super Hero related news to share with you...

First, the new Marvel: Ultimate Alliance expansion packs that you might have heard about will be made available on Xbox Live later this week.

That means you'll soon be able to add The Incredible Hulk, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Hawkeye, Magneto, Sabretooth, Dr. Doom, and Venom to the already impressive roster of playable characters in MUA (you can see these new characters in action in this awesome hi-def trailer!)

Also, the May 4th release date for Spider-Man 3 is approaching fast. To kick off this epic event properly, we've just launched a new MySpace profile for the Spider-Man 3 video game. As far as profiles go, we think it's pretty slick... please come by, check it out, and add us as your friend!

Shaba is the name of the of a game company that helped Activision to work on the DLC.

This was mentioned in an interview on gamespot.com a few weeks ago.

I'm not an expert, just so you know, just a casual player (this is my brother's game), so this is what this casual player finds (in order of favourite to least):

Hulk: I'm biased, he's my favourite Marvel character, but he really does seem to be the most powerful melee character in the game. And he's got some fantastic ranged attacks, with his foot stomps and the like which helps even the playing field a bit.

Venom: Once you level him up a bit, he has one of the most impressive attacks in the game I think. Well, it looks cool. He just stands in the middle of the screen, and tendrils fly from his body, latch onto everyone around him (the number depending on the level of the attack) and drains them to nothing. You keep this attack up, and nobody can touch him. Very cool, visually.

Doc Doom: He's a good all around character, can fly, shoot beams from his eyes, good physical attacker, but he's Dr. Doom. That in itself is cool. He can definately hold his own.

Cyclops: My personal bias is that I hate the character. With that said, his optic blast has a VERYwide range, and because of that, seems to make him one of the better new characters. Could totally hold his own with his optic blasts (better animations and effects than X:Men Legends). But I still hate him. :p

Nightcrawler: My 2nd favourite X-Man, unfortunately, I died pretty early on using him. His bamfing looks GREAT. However, it's confusing, a lot of smoke everywhere, and I lost track of where he ended up quickly, and that didn't help. But it looked cool as heck!!

Sabretooth: He's basically exactly what you would expect. Lots of clawing, a tough cookie, but for me, nothing to write home about.

Oh yeah!! My bad!!

Hawkeye at first seemed slow on the arrow shooting. But levelling up made him fantastic at long ranged combat (not too great at close range, though). Having him just stand at the back and fire out the arrows made him a fantastic addition to the team, VERY fast and unlimited arrows at low energy costs. He just basically stands there, shooting and pivoting indefinately.

And Magneto is much like the X-Men: Legends game, with spiffier graphics. Picking the enemies up and tossing them around, flying, force fields and magnetic attacks, he seems to be a very well rounded character. (Didn't play with him much as I used him all the time in Legends, so, I sort of skipped over him in favour of the really new characters)

The good people over at the Marvel Mods forums found a bunch of characters that were secretly coded in the game. In other words, if you have a PC you can MOD these heroes in. And could possibly be used in future DLC, if it would happen...

Well, technically you'd only need to add one or the other, though both would be cool.

I just have to say this: The "Planet Hulk" costume is teh roxxors. It totally turns the Hulk into more of a wrecking machine than he already is.

I do have a question though: How do you unlock the final costumes for the new characters? Are there new mission discs hidden in the game for them?

They do have some unique conversations, though I only know of a couple:

Doom and "Doom" have a unique dialogue if you meet Doom with Doom in your party (which also explains Doom being in two places at once).

Magneto and Xavier have a conversation.

No offense but a lot of people that own just a 360, PS3, or PC see the Wii as nothing more than a cute gimmick. A lot of those people tend to overlook the Wii unless they want to insult it.

I think it is stupid that only the 360 got content. If the company wanted to make more money they should have done it for all systems.

There is a lot of rumors that say Microsoft paid them for the extra content but I have never seen any proof of this. It is also a very typical rumor for any exclusive games or material.

Sort of Random, but I've beat the game and I want to unlock DD-- I have (3) figures. I've gone back and got the fourth from Strange's library. How do I know which one I missed? And can anyone direct me as to which portals to extract myself to and where to go, so I can get DD STAT?
