Another solid done in one.
Fraction's approach to this book after going through the motions in CW has been fresh and exciting.
It's good to see that he isn't falling into ppl's worst fears with the storytelling, having Frank kill a villain every issue.
#5 really starts out of nowhere and doesn't give you answers until the last 4 pages. It's clear that GW is being built up as a supporting cast member with Fraction showing us how dirty he's willing to get in order to take down Frank.
4/5

Thought it sucked. Seriously where is Frank in his own title? He barley was in this issue.

I liked the issue. Frank has had by far the best reaction to Cap's death of everyone. That one pannel at the end when he is staring wide-eyed, mouth agape, at the jumbotron was priceless. It really nails home the magnitude of the whole situation. Frank Castle, the most hardened, dissilusioned character in the MU seeming so helpless for just a brief flash; it actually made me feel something that I rarely feel while I read comics. I'm not going to be so dramatic as to say it gave me chills, but I did feel differently at the end of that issue about the death of Cap. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but I think that was my favorite comic moment of the week.

Well thought out and intelligent complaint.
"Captain America #17 sucked man!Where the heck was Cap?It was Crossbones torturing some red head chick? What the hell!"

I just think #5 was the weakest one so far. And I don't like the Cap approach this book is taking.

It's hard to take you seriously seeing as to how the only book you tend to review and praise is Iron Fist.
Seriously dude, you're on like every single comic board saying the same old thing.

Well hey man it's just my opinion, if you want to take it the wrong way then knock yourself out.

Not true, I review any other book. And it's funny you say that, cause you're in every other comic board saying whatever you want about War Journal.

It was funny to see Bushwhacker up and shooting.
Though I think I could pick up 6 and not even worry about having this issue.
It wasn't that interesting.

I dont want to start a whole thing, but I dont think this is really fair. Iron Fist is right in saying that he doesnt seem to show up in his own book as much as he should. I dont agree that it is a bad thing exactly, but he does have a point. IMO, Brubaker is an eponentially better writer than Fraction and he has developed a strong supporting cast that is capeable of carrying a book without the titular character, while Fraction has mainly focused on single-issue villains wh just end up dead in the end. I mean, while I enjoy the book even though Punny only showed up at the end, he is perfectly entitled to his opinion on it.
Plus, Iron Fist's book kicks major A.

Exactly what I was trying to say. Nothing wrong with someone's opinion.

Okay,so Cap was entirely absent in #17 of his current series. So?Did the book suck because the main character was absent?Of course not.The story was solid enough that it didn't need the main character in it.The same applies here.

But didn't like the story or the fact that Punisher didn't show up much. For two issues in a row we haven't seen much of Punisher in HIS own ongoing series. I'm still getting #6 though. :)

I think the difference is that Crossbones had been developing as a character for a while when that book came out, and he has played a major part in the story since then. The villains in Punisher War Journal seem to be interchangeable goombas that just end up dead. They dont, at least not yet, seem to be furthering an overall plot for the Punisher. Who knows, the book may just trick us and turn out to be building a major arc, but right now it just seems to be stand alone stories. Its understandable if someone doesnt like it because the main character doesnt appear.

Yeah, it's not like I don't like the series. I just didn't really like the past two issues of War Journal. Though I prefer the MAX verison this has been a good read, but 4 and 5 haven't been that good imo. Though I think #6 will make up for it.

Thats funny, one of the things I dont like about the max series is that he didnt really show up much in the first two issues of this current story. I think it is a great book, I just think it is funny that both books suffered from the same problem recently. Maybe the punisher is just on vacation.

I didn't get the lastest issues of the current arc so I wouldn't know, lol. But what I will say is that Punisher is a maniac killer, and it's best shown in the MAX title.

Very true. Very, very true.

I dug this issue bigtime. I will say not having Punisher in it was fine with me. It just means he'll likely be in the next one more. Plus having him not in the book til the end made his reaction to Cap's death more dramatic and suspenseful.
And with Punisher tying into the Captain America drama, Punisher War Journal just made the status of "Must Read."

Except in this case, the "villain" who was being further developed as a character wasn't Bushwacker, it was Bridge. This showed the lengths Bridge was willing to go to in order to capture Castle.
Bridge, Castle, heh. Just noticed that. Maybe they could get DA Tower to prosecute. Is he still the DA in the MU?

the only thing Bridge did by making a deal with the Bushwacker is to make him a "bad guy" in Castle's eyes, which is never good.

I liked this issue, and this series as a whole. I like the little humor bits, and Fraction has made me like The Punisher. Something I thought I would never write in my life.
