well, I finally got round to picking up some trades and catching up on titles I'd been promising myself I would forever, and picked up X-factor: the longest night, and Son of M. I have to say I am not disappointed! I think the main point I enjoyed about them both is that they actually deal with the fal out of house of M. I read uncanny and x-men monthly, and neither team has eally dealt with the fact their species is literally near extinction. Less than 1% of them are less, and none of the teams seem that bothered by this fact. Well, son of M and X-factor plays this up as a central theme and actually illustrated the dire straits some mutants are in. It was also nice to see spidey's pain reflected.

Focusing on son of M, I have to admit, I've never found quicksilver that interesting. Even after reading house of M, that fact quicksilver did it seemed much like an after thought imo after how much wanda was built up, and I honestly didn't care that much. I'm under the impression quicksilve rwill play a part in x-factor vol 2 though so I figured it would be smart to pick this up to. Hine goes a long way to make Pietro a character I'll pay money for though. The fact that somewhere down there he does have good intentions but he simply doesn't have the willpower it takes a goodguy to stick by those thoughts, is really compelling. It means that yea, he's hateable, he's a jerk, but he's not completely unredeemable. There's that tiny bit of hope for him. The book also does a great job of re-establishing the inhumans as a force to be reckoned with. I personally had never read a book with Luna in it, and right now she looks like she could become a very interesting character in the future. The art direction was excellent too, doing a great job of reflecting Pietro's dark and gritty world. Maybe not as flashy as some artists these days, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh yea, and as a big fan of the last excalibur run, t was great to see some of the genoshian mutants dealt with instead of being left in oscurity as they currently are.

X-factor was also great. Although I miss the original team with Havok and Polaris, this book achieves something really special: something different. There is no other book like this on the x-line, or even at marvel right now, and that instantly makes up for it. Its great to see PAD play with Jamie's powers and like Carey is doing over on the adjectively, actually do some really niterestin gthings with them that have never been done. Such a simple thing for a superhero comic, yet we don't usually get much focus on the actual complexities of the hero's powers. This is innovation however. I love the cast as well, especially Rictor. I was a fan of x-force back in the day, but no complints: stripping rictor of his powers has only served to make him more interesting. I can't wait til I pick up vol. 2 (as soon as i get the cash) to see them deal with Quicksilver. Plus this book actually makes Layla interesting, and I want to know what her deal is, why she had these weird powers in house of M, and why she knows things now. Its great stuff.

Overall, I'm looking forward to getting the rest of x-factor and the silent war when it makes it to trade. Now that I've finally read these, what did you guys think of them ,since I pretty much have avoided public opinion til now so they wouldn't be ruined for me.

X-factor is the best comic at the moment in my opinion. It doesn't take any cheap outs, has great humor and takes time to develop its storylines and characters.
You might also want to pick up Silent War, which deals with the consequences of the Inhumans losing their terragen crystals.
