Mine is definitely Steve Epting, but I did like Byrne and Zeck a lot, too.

My favorites are Jack Kirby, Ron Garney, Steve Epting, and Mike Zeck. I voted for Mike Zeck on the poll; I've always especially loved his Captain America covers, particularly 275 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=36825&zoom=4), 278 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=37121&zoom=4), 284 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=37677&zoom=4), 286 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=37855&zoom=4), 287 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=37943&zoom=4), 321 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=41836&zoom=4), 330 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=42975&zoom=4), and 332 (http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=43229&zoom=4).
I also really like Bryan Hitch's version of Cap.
Edit: sorry for the double post. :/

Ya, Eptine draws a great Captain America.

I would have voted for Jack Kirby, except I love his early Tales of Suspense work through Captain America #100 or so, and even the Steranko trio of issues, but I disliked the late 1970s caps around 190-210 so much that I couldn't vote for him
Byrne got my vote, though I have enjoyed Zeck, love Epting too, and even Gene Colan's work on the birth of the Falcon was good... but it deteriorates after about 120 to poor stories and wandering direction...

I went with Byrne.
Classic Cap all the way. But the rest of the artists are fantastic too... Epting, Kirby and Garney are all up there as well.

Sal Buscema of course. His stories with Englehart, Gerber and McKenzie are by far my favorite with the character.

Byrne. Not only for his run on the comic, but also for the Batman/Captain America one-shot.

No George Perez?? Well, since he's not on the list, I'll go with John Byrne.
To me, comics were at their best in the mid/late 70s through the late 80s (could it be because that's the era I grew up in? Nostalgia ftw :) ), and Byrne and Perez were the comic gods of the time.
Byrne's Cap run was incredible, as was his Avengers run. Cap has rarely looked better, but I do love Epting, Zeck and Steranko Cap, as well.

1) Byrne
2) Kirby
3) Epting
4) Cassaday

Kirby and Sternako are the best artists to ever work on Cap, but Mike Zeck is the ultimate Captain America artist.
He bought out the heroic and iconic nature of Cap.

No George or John Buscema. I only listed artists who had made significant contributions on Cap's own series, not Avengers artists who drew him in the pages of that book. I wish I had another option so I could have included Dan Jurgens, too, who I feel is very under-rated.

This question points out that cap has had pretty good artists over his run.

My favourite Cap artist is John Buscema. His work on Cap in Avengers is unparallelled. I think he's also proving to be a continued unfluence on the book, as Epting's style is reminiscent of Buscema's.
However, John hasn't had a significant run of Cap's solo title, so I voted for the King.
Cap certainly has had some fine artists over the years.

Don't forget John romita Sr. did a run that was just great looking.

Ron GARNEY!! That guy can DRAW. His and Waid's cap run is excellent..

As a companion thread to go with my writer, I'm doing a poll on who is your favorite Cap artist.
I have lots. I love Neary and Zeck's runs, I don't have any by Kirby pencilled issues, but it's freaking Kirby. How can you not automatically love it!
While I generally love Bachalo, it just didn't fit in with the character, imo. His run was good, just...not what I would expect an Cap title to have. Cassaday's run was pretty, but uninspiring.
But my all time favorite artist on the book is actually a tie. I loved both Garney's and Kubert's Cap, and really don't know who I would have as my overall favorite Cap artist.
Dusty.

I only had ten options. If bib wants, he can add to the options, or just merge the two threads.
EDIT: Sorry, that came off rude. I just listed the top nine I thought did an extra special job on Cap. Sure, I love Epting's work, it's just I only had so many spots on the list.

haha...no worries, you didn't come off rude.
Epting's been added, so I vote for him. He has redefined the character and series like no other.

Bib, you erased my vote!
And I'll have to disagree with you. I feel Garney redefined Cap like no other. Looking at his initial run, I can see why I squeeled like a school girl when he replaced Dave Hoover on the title.

voted for steve epting. Really like his run on Cap :)
Kirby first and foremost, but Joe Simon wasn't bad either, especially when you consider that it was Simon who came up with the original pencil sketches.
Steranko comes in a nice second, but what's weird is that of all people Sal Buscema is only slightly behind him at number three.
Most of the modern guys just don't impress me that much.

Cassady's brief run was probably my favorite. I also like Maguire in the prestige format books he did.

Not to rain on anyone's taste or anything, but does Neary really belong on this list? His work elsewhere as an inker is great, but as a penciller on Cap, I don't think he is close to anyone on this list, and some that aren't.

Though he wasnt' on for super long, I liked Byrne.
There's something nice, clean and classic about the way Byrne does iconic characters like Cap (and Superman).

Ron Lim was the first I looked for, was kinda surprised he wasn't listed.
Although their run is short due to "creative differences," Roger Stern & John Byrne's Captain America remains one of the best.

I usually don't make a comment about what is left off of a poll. I realize options are limited, and will always slant toward the thread starter. I was surprised that Epting, being the current penciller, wasn't on the list. I was surprised that Cassaday, Lim, Dwyer, and Sal Buscema weren't on the list. Those were just the regular series artists.
Kerry Gammill did an awesome 2 parter that I just reread that was written by J. M. DeMatties and printed in Marvel Fanfare (31 and 32, I think), and Kevin MaGuire did that great 4 part bookshelf origin story. Many awesome artists like John Buscema, George Perez, and Neal Adams drew him in Avengers. So did David Finch. Steve McNiven drew him in CW.
To get back to the regular series artists, though, these polls are all about personal likes, and Mariah appears to have read a lot of the old school Caps. I've read and own the entire DeMatties/Zeck and Gruenwald/Neary runs, as well as the Waid/Garney issues, and I understand the appeal. I think it's currently reaching it's artistic zenith, but art is subjective.

I can't believe I'm the only one voting for Gene Colan. You guys gotta check those essentials volumes. Cap running his bike and doing acrobatics by Colan is just the best Cap I have ever seen. Besides Colan, I like Maguire, Byrne, Zeck and Dwyer.
The DVD collection is coming on April and I can't wait to see that Colan drawings in all their color greatness.

I think I should mention that D'Armatta should also get some credit here too.
It's the art through the pencials, the inks and the coloring that make it fantastic

Why aren't Ron Lim, John Cassaday, Bryan Hitch and Kieron Dwyer on the list?
These ones are my favorite Cap artists.
Ron Lim did a good job of drawing Cap's muscular stature perfectly.
I liked Cassaday's unique style. He drew nuances in the Cap's chainmail uniform very neatly.

Cassaday also gets my vote. Very detailed and great covers. Although I only tried cap during their run so I was only exposed Cassaday, Bachalo, Epting and Perkins.:o
I would like to try out the other great runs in cap.

Cassady's art is indeed very very awesome. He made the costume look so real. Truly awesome stuff.
Could he be the one credited for making his costume go towards the chain-mail look that it has today?

Cassaday was so freakin awesome on Captain America. He redefined Cap visualy as much as Todd McFarlane did it for Spider-Man.
Maguire is also a great choice. His mini-series about Cap's origin was so good I always wondered why he hasn't done more "serious" super-hero work after this.
